  • A blog to help those who want help in French : learnlikefrench(dot)wordpress(dot)com

  • I liked this video..! ..thanks a lot,!!

  • Je cherche mon cerveau mais je ne le trouve pas. xD

  • Actually the syntax of French does not equal the same as English's syntax. The Oblique argument in English does not transfer to an Oblique argument in French. There is no hidden preposition (there is no clitic) on the verb. English speakers have to quit thinking every language in the world is English with different words.

  • thx. ur video is helpful, but its much longer than it needed to be. thx nyways.

  • you've been teaching them for years and years and still don't get it? there must be something wrong in the way you teach. no offence but it's kinda the same with math. a lot of people fail it in colleges where as learning math with private tutors is actually fun and easy. i don't understand why teachers make it hard to their students.

What i'm getting at is that there has to be a better and more effective way of teaching things to students. I dunnow but perhaps home schooling works better

  • Ok, this can be helpful to some people, but, like lsfrench pointed out, you can say "chercher pour" in a different context, also one is not going to become "rich and famous" because they know how french verbs and prepositions work.... STOP saying that, please, considering you know MORE than just that and you're a teacher, not a film star... Also, the many, many comparisons to things like conditioners and 1=1, etc., are just overstating the obvious. Lastly, stop calling everything "beautiful"..

  • @MrMole962 don't understand a word of what you wrote, it was just a reply to "one would NEVER use pour with chercher" that you posted in reply to Yashti. humility is the first step for knowledge.

  • @lsfrench ??????? And all I said (in regards to you) was that you were correct about the "chercher pour" thing ;s

  • Thanks for the helpful reminders regarding prepositions! It really sank in for me!

  • i like the concept.. but the high paying job makes her look so dumb!

  • leading to fame and fortune... lol what are you smoking?

  • helped a lot!

  • While the teacher might be a bit longwinded about the concept, she also says this is something that is lost on her students repeatedly. I have been studying French for three years and I am 100% sure that I will NEVER forget what I learned on this video. Thanks very much!

  • @rossonero89 Very true

  • She is taking very long to explain something quite simple in the french language which is probably confusing her students even more. This is something you should be taught in elementary school.

  • She takes much too long to explain a very simple concept.

  • im canandian and my french is horrific LOL.

  • I wonder what is the age of the people in the class. It feels like she is addressing to people with IQ minus.

It is a pity. Only to think that some of the greatest scientists were Americans.

  • I could watch her all day... she gets it great teacher!!!!

  • Merci! C:

  • Anna is fat! And this is stupid. This is not efficient. 1 minute of learning spreaded into 10 boring ones...that's why u americans learn so hard...just fuking do it, it's not that hard, u don't need so many words and cues and motivations and etc.

  • The teacher doesn't have perfect pronunciation.

There is a different in French between "ou" and "u", the teacher pronounces the "u" well, as in "bus" in French. But her "ou" ALSO sounds like "u", which is not very French.

When she says "nous" it sounds like "nus" - which means "naked", and even though we understand what she's saying, I think a French teacher should have perfect pronunciation.

  • Wow. Understandable!!

  • I love this video, the way the teacher gives the explanation is perfect. She motivates you = )

  • Boy, is she patronizing. "Makes teachers smile and run through the flowers ....."

The little clapping and kiddie talk. Sad.

  • @josedejuan1 at least she is better than my French teacher, he is very sarcastic and would scream at you if you wrote je cherce pour mon sac :-P he makes me wanna give up >.<

  • I'm an English teacher and I love this video :)))

  • where is the link for part 2??

  • "And we start to cry bitterly" jaja

    So nice

  • je cherche mon sac, that's the same ass in Dutch Ik zoek mijn tas

  • some very good tips explained in a great way!

  • NB : we say "regarder" for both "look" and "watch"

  • @taylorkalister Chinese is not a language.. it's either Cantonese or Mandarin. Everyone knows that.

  • @LeBadman Je ne savais pas ça!

  • @taylorkalister Sarcasme? :D

  • @DarksharkNemo and Japanese is not hard maybe?

  • La langue française n'est elle pas trop dur ?

  • @Azerty0147258369 that is not correct french my friend. what are you trying to say?

  • @Azerty0147258369 n'est-t-elle

  • yashtii , Cherche already means to look for therefore saying checher pour = i am looking FOR FOR ....which is incorrect.

  • we need more like this videos pls .. i hop that veryy soon im so intersting ..

    merciiiii bccccpppppp

  • heh, comparing french to consumerism.

I guess it works pretty well in north america.

  • je cherche mon sac = i am looking for my bag ( here its specific i.e my bag) but if i have to say l am looking for 'a' bag( not specific i.e a bag could be any bag)could it be = je cherche 'pour' un sac.

am i correct to follow this logic?

  • Dear Yashtii, according to Professor Knowlton who is featured in the video, one would never use pour with chercher. It would be Je cherche un sac. Best wishes with your studies! Agnes Scott Office of Communications

  • thanx.

  • @AgnesScottCollege

Indeed, I'm french, and we say " Je cherche [insert object here ] " for " I'm looking for ...

  • @AgnesScottCollege Very good teacher. Although I'm English and despite being very mediocre at French, I never felt the urge to make these "common" mistakes. It felt natural the French and English way. I don't recall lots of people making these mistakes in class. Maybe it's an American thing haha. I made tons of mistakes but this type of thing wasn't part of it.

  • @AgnesScottCollege unfortunately you can say je cherche pour un sac, for example you are in a shop and the seller aks you, how can I help. (je peux vous aider) you can say je cherche pour un sac (because you want to buy one). You say je cherche un sac when when you are looking for something you lost, someone tells you, what are you looking for? (que cherchez-vous?) because the person does not know anything about your bag, you can say: je cherche un sac, un sac bleu.

  • No yashtii, you're not. The lady is saying that in french the verb includes the preposition so, it does not matter if you're looking for your or any bag, you won't use any preposition in french.

    So: Je cherche un sac

  • @yashtii i think it would be je cherche un sac.. beacause that it coulb be any bag doesnt exclude the preposition from the verbs..

  • @yashtii No, It would be Je cherche UN sac, because you don´t know yet which one you will choose.

  • @yashtii i am looking for my bag = je cherche mon sac i am looking for a bag=je cherche un sac

  • @yashtii when you say i am looking you say Je suis chercher mon sac because Je suis means I am, chercher means looking in this context. In your comment when you wrote Je cherche mon sac actually translates to I look for my bag, not I am looking for my bag. I hope this helped you

  • @Shamaster56 Where did you learn this? You would never say "Je suis chercher mon sac" - there is no present continuous mood as there is in English. Instead we use the present tense. So it is "je cherche mon sac" or if you want "je suis en train de chercher mon sac" (I am in the process of looking for my bag).

  • @Shamaster56 you ARE joking right? ..... French does have "ing" words, like looking, talking, seeing, etc. (cherchant, parlant, voyant) but one NEVER uses them with the verb to be.... I'm looking is je cherche. Not je suis chercher , and even if French people did use "am, is, are" with -ing verbs it would be "je suis cherchant", but of course that is NOT correct French either, but more correct than what you said. Do not comment unless you know if your information is true, you'll confuse people.

  • c'est "Je cherche pour un sac"

  • nous attendons l'autobus est mieux.

  • Just one correction, bus in french is "autobus". Well, everyone says bus because it's shorter.
