i was in class at fmcc (about 10 minutes away from the fire) and a girl in my class got taken out of class because her house had caught fire due to the embers. the fire was so bad that the public safety office made an annoucement over the intercom that all emt's and vollenteer fire fighters for which their departments got called out are to report to the scene.
This was one of three big fires in the mohawk valley region that over 150 firefighters where there a few hurt but no one died. It was a long very long day for all us firefighters paid and volunteers .....
LOL i saw smoke when i was in school and in the middle of the teacher talking i said "IS THAT SMOKE" and the teacher was like no and everyone was looking out the window
i was in school while this happened and when we saw the fire we were like OMG WERE ALL GUNNA DIE but the fire was from a leather factory and they have a bunch of chemicals so you know no surprise it went down and the smell after it was all burned down was horrible
I was at school at the time, and he had vents in the room I was in and we had to leave. The smoke was coming into the room, people were weezing and coughing.
i was at the high school up the road from this it was kina cool when i saw it but my teacher mrs.auty thought it was her son because hes in that area and she dropped to the floor went to it after school was total destruction then i said screw it and went to clydes and got a monster and watched
construction guys were cutting or weldind in one of those very old skin mills in preperation for a brewry to go in-the sparks flew and thats all folks...quite a bit of Johnstown hisory went up in flames that day...damn shame
They did what they could to save these buildings. There were 15 other fires in the city at the same time because of this fire. I think everyone worked well together putting it out. Eveyone was helping everyone to put this out.
i completly forgot about this fire when we were at school i can remember everyone i my study hall watching the smoke... we all wanted to be out there to see it.
i was in school and saw smoke bellowing in black clouds. we were all like omg this thing gona burn up all of johnstown. its the biggest fire we have ever had!
It stated that 16 companies from the area responded to scene, but should you include those put on standby at stations, then you are talking around low 30's. My brother was on standby with E-3 at Brookshire Station's on 107, and father was on scene. Both members of 214 Fort Johnson Fire Company. Though this wasn't a home, show respect. I know what it is like to lose everything in a fire, 10-years ago, and structure fires are not funny no matter where, what or when they take place ...!
i didnt see it from school but there were like fifty different rumors and know one knew what to belive but afterwards everyone must have felt pathetic ... i know i did and i was like laughing (in my head) cuz of it.
if memory serves the call came in shortly after it began and within moments, Johnstown was on scene. then ten minutes later, fort johnson, tribes hill, hagman, cransville, town of mohawk fire companies were toned to bring man power and engines. but fire companies were arriving from the time it started almost to just about 1 or 2 that afternoon. the fire police/ police blocked from the corner of Market & Washington to Main Street, down to Cayadetta to W. State to Washington.
