  • is that a fretted harp?

  • hmm this sounds a bit like 'Pur ti miro', doesn't it ? I'm willing to bet either Kapsberger stole it from Ferrari or Ferrari did...It's certain that Monteverdi didn't write it though...

  • if you're not careful, you can poke someone's eye out with that thing...

  • When a banjo sleeps with an 7 string bass, this is what you get.

  • Parabéns

  • There is a weird side of youtube.

This is the amazing side, enjoy :-)

  • thats a cool instrument..stiff playing but cool. why is it so long may i ask

  • @slidre11 The longer strings not over the frets are open bass strings that are used in baroque continuo playing (filling in harmonies in orchestra playing). They're not really needed in this piece -- he could just as easily have used a regular lute. The exception is the last note where he plucks one of the bass strings.

  • imagine Gurney Halleck pulling this shit out in a Dune remake

  • @benjaminshinobi

HEHE that would be a sight for sore eye eh?

  • He needs to get clearance from the FAA to play that thing.

  • how do you change a string of this? and about tunning is another mistery

  • @leadman22 If he showed the whole instrument it would be harder to see the finger work.

  • I used to play ancient and gay instruments like this, but then I took a medieval arrow to the knee.

  • @KillinDaWelfareMCs I use to make gay jokes like you, but then I took a vagina to the penis.

  • @dudkun should go back to the gay jokes

  • You don't get good enough to play this well until you have a couple of decades' experience under your fingers.

  • Just shut up, go away, and let us enjoy.

  • how da fuck do you carry that thing from a place to another

  • @dbadgones Good question...I think the answer is...*runs away*

  • This instrument was probably made from a tree, but he didn't cut the trunk, if the camera was (REALLY) farther we would see branches and leaves, I am almost sure there..

  • To see the head of this instrument he should have put the camera 3 kilometers farther.

  • Does that thing end somewhere?

  • @Denny00000000000000 That's what SHE said

  • @Denny00000000000000 Thats what she said.

  • tha fuck is that

  • @Crizxz Its a theorbo.

  • Typical dot reader, very little emotional input, played without any feeling at all. He should have stayed in bed that day and left the instrument for someone else to play.

  • @trevancoltd i agree it lacked emotion but it looks kinda like hes reading it off the page as he's playing.

  • @trevancoltd It's barroque music, asshole.

  • Danm Steve Jobs WAS talented.

  • was this instrument used in battle or what!? its huge!!! but SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL

  • so this is what Sean Connery has been up to...

  • What an unnecessary instrument lol

  • @StewieSwan

no, what was unnecessary were those annoying vuvuzela's throughout the entire world cup tournament last June!

  • You know what they say about guys with very long guitars? ;-)

  • "Can I take this as hand baggage?"

  • Very nice piece and playing!

Must be a bugger trying to find a case for that thing though.

  • When I heard the music I had a quite funny feeling, like I was transported into the Renaissance era, looking at people with weird clothes coming and going in an avenue while I'm sitting, slurping my spaghettis in my pajamas.

Thank you sir for this beautiful work! ^^

  • he can share that instrument with his neighbour, both sitting in their own flats

  • Steve Jobs ? O.o

  • @rockinrodney5000 @rockinrodney5000 This joke was dead even before we heard the first skyrim joke. It's just extremely annoying now. Chuck Norris can die now for all I care.

  • @rockinrodney5000 ahahahahahaahahahahaha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahah!... I think I just peed. ;)

  • i didn't know steve jobs played the theorbo...

  • needs humbuckers and a stack !

  • @tecdessus I like the way you think....

  • @timtipton5071256 silly comment aside, I really like this ! anyway, buckers wouldn`t work ...lol

  • thats a lotta neck!!

  • Can you fold it and slide it under your bed?

  • Very beautiful, how do you transport this instrument? i cant imagine there is a case or bag big enough?

  • This is the medieval equivalent of todays V shaped guitars =)

Screw you guys and your stubby neck lutes. I'm gonna make my own... AND IT WILL DOUBLE AS A LANCE !

  • i don't think it's big enough

  • Damn Steve Jobs is talented.

  • @inlpwetrust Was**

  • @inlpwetrust Was*

  • @inlpwetrust HES ALSO DEAD HAHA

  • @inlpwetrust Was* talented.

  • that probably extends 100 ft in the air lol

  • without music appreciation and music history classes this video would have 200 views max.

  • used almost exclusivly for the Basso continuo line. But as seen here can handle the solo .

  • Lute, I am your father...

  • @scoggles i will be saying that in a little while after I finish mine!

  • @scoggles Ahaha! LOL!!!!

  • @scoggles Hahaha. ; )

  • @scoggles

    best comment ever.

  • @scoggles That's just so funny, I ripped :D

  • @scoggles hahaha!!!

  • @scoggles HILARIOUS!!!

  • @scoggles ....lol priceless

  • The dorky cousin of the lute family.

  • why bother having all that bass range and not use it until the very last note?

  • wtf is this?:-D

  • @Groove1993 It's a hell of a phallic symbol :-) For the rest, check Wikipedia on theorbo. Must be GREAT if you're able to play it, don't you think?

  • @Steinbach1984 definitely yes, i just started to play classical guitar(i used to play guitar before, but only some rock songs..covers etc ;))...but now im starting to take guitar really seriously

  • ...

  • Omg that thing is huge :O

  • okay that fucking thing doubles as a medieval weapon aswell as an instrument... maybe a bard/warrior instrumen/weapon!!?

  • How tall is the Theorbo? I am five two. LOL

  • I am filled with bordom as a result of this

  • Very good!

  • no musicality

  • i really love these instruments ,but he got absolute no rhythm feel.every piece i watched is more or less without rhythm.

  • @Achtelnote most pieces for continuo instruments (like the lute/theorbo, harpsichord, etc.) are much without rhythm! In cases where rhythms are present, you often have no barlines! One must make it up as s/he goes. Plus, he's obviously sight-reading to a certain extent.

  • @Achtelnote That's really more or less a hallmark of the music from that time, moreso than the musician.

  • Bravo!

  • ok so it looks like it has 9 and a half frets and a super bass.

  • Thanks so much for sharing your music--what a beautiful instrument!

  • Peace and rest is tranmitted. My blood pressure goes down listnening to the soft ...

  • I can't help thinking this instrument deserves more inspired composers than the likes of Kapsberger.

  • @BubCar2

you need some ears man, or at least some brains!

  • @BubCar2 I totally agree. Kapsberger's stuff is....meh. Very meh.

  • @BubCar2 God, ain't that the truth.

  • @BubCar2 exactly.... I´d make it electric and give it to Jimi Hendrix

  • very impressive

  • This one sounds very similar to a banjo! :)

  • Hahaha :D Yeah, a little

  • The theorbo is one of many lutes. It was developed late in the lute era and was used to accompany singing or for use as a continuo instrument. Little solo music survives for it, mostly from Italy.

  • Your music is very nice

  • It's not a lute, its a theorbo.

  • A theorbo remains a lute, a lute is merely not always a theorbo.

  • I did not know that! thanks.
