my gf plays vinyl and i play cdjs and after endless discussions we have to agree both has their cons and pros, but the practicalitiy of cdjs cant be beat. specially the ones that read USB. i played at a party this saturday, and only brought 4 usb thumb drives for a whole evening. At home we use both on same mixer and get best from both worlds ;)

@NORCALRAISED510 I don't know your budget, but i got a KAM kcm400 mkII. It's only about £130 so its cheap, but mines lasted for a long while now. its a very simple mixer, 3 channels, no effects, but the kill switches are cool as they have a springy function where the come off when u take your finger off as well as the stadard kill function. Plus the fader is VERY smooth and light, it literally falls to the side if u tilt the mixer!

i mean, feel of the pitch on the 200 is good, good response och play & Cue and solid build quality.

if you don't know how to mix you better stick to a little midi controller ( can be found in your local DJ store for 100 dollars) and plug it in to your computer to control Virtual DJ but that wont take you anywhere.

@pillefreeride there good if you want to go, do a gig and make money. but if your worrying about sound quality and mixing quality there is a definate difference. i was stuck using them every friday[now i just use my 2000's with the shit american audio mixer] early at a bar set i do before city gigs.. there just uncomfortable. the small jog wheel makes it much harder to keep beats synced than the higher models do. but thats just what you get for the price difference..

if the cdj's are not in your class of price then look out for some RMP2's from Reloop. i got them and they are realy close to the feeling of a pioneer. great alternative for a cdj :)

400's are awesome and the perfect tool for me to master the basics and intermediate mixing techniques.

CDJ 400's and DJM 400 are quality pieces of equipment, although I also do believe its beginner equipment in terms of ease of use and price (in comparison to other models/brands) but it houses such a nice set of features all up theres no reason too look at them as if the person is a beginner DJ or anything.
