  • go elliott

  • his songs are learnable you just have to have good rythym like elliott! :)

  • In my opinion this man changed acoustic guitar in a general perspective and a personal one for me. I just wish more people recognise this and to @truthisachievable his songs are proper hard to learn and singing them is just impossible for me.

  • Six people have no taste.

  • i listen to elliott's music when i'm in a down mood. when the song ends, i feel better knowing i'm not alone.

  • one of my favorite e.s. songs.

  • Hey Ellliott, that was a great performance you gave. Hey are those sodas in the fridge just to take?

No. Those are mine. I need them.

    Okay.

But you can have this yo-yo. You can use it now and one day in the summer.

Aww thanks Ellott, you're the best!

Just take the damn yo yo.

  • No but seriously it was a great performance. I know he would be nice in real life

  • wow, why all the effin' drama? don't bring that stupid shit here on hallowed ground...christ, get over yourselves and who gives a fuck if you can play a song on guitar or not? i agree--the skill and talent lies in CREATING it, anyone can copy some one else's hard work...duh!

  • No matter the circumstances surrounding his death, I still feel like we were all robbed. Such an amazingly beautiful artist through and through. We miss you, Elliott! "I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow."

  • *BOWS DOWN TO THE CHAMPION*

    forever loved~loved forever

  • i should really be asleep, but can't can't get off youtube. really wish i would have had the chance to see elliott smith live. he was an amazing artist.

  • Haunting.Beautiful. I love how it goes from the first chorus right into the 2nd vs. on the "one". Genius.

  • good to see him good form. great song.

  • I just wish I could travel in time....... :(

  • oh my god alot of hostile people here.

any answer this ...... If you had never heard of elliott or his back catalogue and were at this gig would you see how amazing he really was? I guessing not. but I am sure everyone will write of course I would and make up some rubbish. He is great but so are a lot of unknown artists that you have all probably already seen but never gave the chance or a second look.

  • @spickspack i agree with you. Now, i'm not putting myself on elliott's level, but just by watching this gig, and playing similar ones, i can tell the audience's are similar. They dont know you, and are not sure if you're good or not because no ones told them you are. Its hard for people in our society to judge something when they are around other people; the conscience of the entire room wins in a situation like that more often than not, and people who think you're good wont even say so.

  • @BrandonNorth1120 it's not like that at all. these people are devout elliott fans, they just get really absorbed into the music hence why they are quiet, and generally that kind of personality is not one to go crazy about something.

  • @javsav Well yes that very well could be too. I was just taking the pessimistic point of view i suppose. But I guess if you weren't there you can't know for sure.

  • @BrandonNorth1120 The proper way to attend his show is to sit down, shut the fuck up, and pay attention.

  • @sybo59 I totally agree! if i were to see him live i'd have just sat there captivated, not moving or even blinking...just lost in the amazing bliss that his talent is. i've seen a lot of his live performances on youtube now and they're all like this, i think its because they respected him as a performer.

  • i love you and miss you and i wish i could thank you,i just love you and miss you.

  • aguante elliott

  • stop commenting and listen

  • people shouldn't argue on this ... how can you be angry when such a beautiful person is playing an amazing song.. and now is dead :( elliott did a lot for so many people..

and truly his songs are harder to play/learn than most people think

  • dude.......once you learn how to play this right...........its so fun.

  • i believe it dude.. dont have much time to learn songs right now lol..

  • i want to learn to play it right, but its kinda difficult..to me

  • @truthisachievable oh fuck yes

    he was a great musician

ive been playing for years and i have trouble with some of his songs, especially this one haha

  • my mom used to drive me up alameda when i was a little boy...

  • that shits hard to play on guitar :|

  • no i can play it but its like.

    pretty sick man.

    dont be a cocky asshole.

you cant learn that shit in weeks you dbag

  • dude.

i can play that but im just saying its not stuff for beginners so stop acting like an asshole.

    fuuuck -_-

  • i bet u suck ass what guitar u got?

  • the very notion that you'd ask me that as a determining factor in my "skill level" disregards whatever judgement you would lay on me, dickweed. why the fuck would i need the approval of some anonymous fucktard on the internet? say whatever you want, i don't give a shit.

  • im just saying normally the type of utter cock that brags about how easy a song is to other people when they say its tough normally when u check there vids out they suck ass anyway.. i get the impression u pretend ur good at the guitar on youtube for some reason... i cant prove it. but if u are then u know deep down u really are a lame person

  • coming from someone whose spent most of their waking hours judging and discussing flume covers with total fucking strangers, that means less than nothing. and dear god, it's always the same. i really wonder what it feels like to be that fucking stupid.

wait for it, here's the big comeback.

watcha got this time? I'm an asshole? A retard? lol......

I'm done here. Have fun arguing over absolutely nothing, idiots.

  • If you're so damn good at guitar, why would bother learning such an "ez" song? Maybe you should spend more time on your spelling and grammar than you do guitar lol.

And if you had any intelligence in your 13 year old brain, you'd realize the skill isn't in playing the song, it's creating it. Sure, if you're not a total liar, then you may be able to play this song, but go try and make one even close to as good.

I'm willing to bet my life you can't. You're just another talentless troll. Go die.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

    holy fuck you're an idiot.

  • you're a complete fucktard, and if you can't figure it out give up psychlogy.

  • i love htis man more than anything jst an amazing human being genius not builty fort his fucke dup world

  • damn those lucky lucky people...wish i could've been there

  • incredible performanc. elliotts music has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life.

  • Man this is so awesome...

  • "And now you see your first mistake was thinking that you could relate"

    The story of my life

    RIP Elliott

  • "If your alone it must be you that wants to be apart...." love that line R.I.P. Elliott

  • yup i was wondering why i was only alone!!!

  • some recent comments, good to see at least a few people are able to pull away from the michael jackson videos. Sheesh, you'd be hard pressed to find an MJ vid w/ less than 10 million views.

This was played right down the street from me. It sucks that I learned about him 5 years after he died. Like almost every other good singer-songwriter I get into. Watch your back Conor Oberst, I don't know the extent of my powers.

  • where was he playing in thiS?

  • stinkweeds record store in Tempe, AZ.

  • @pedo8phil LOL, its nice to actually see a comment that makes me laugh. i always get so down listening to and seeing elliott smith perform because it makes me so angry that i was a stupid kid when he was around performing such amazing music and now hes gone and all we're left with are these videos and some cds.

  • i dont understand how plays the chords and does the picking at the same time da hell yo ! :O

    hes god no like lmfaoooo

  • practise

  • I LOVE YOU BROO WOOOO

  • "Dreamworks" huh. Following him for footage for a indie film? No, That's not what I read. You guys sit around thinking of manipulating shit.

  • nobody broke your heart... you broke your own 'cause you can't finish what you start<3

  • i love this song.

  • Oh BTW. I read Wikipedia about a year ago on Elliot. It has changed a few times (someone edited it). My point is in the wiki page it stated this was about the street in portland Oregon and not LA. It also says his death was questionable. And that in his final days he would tell people he was beinig followed by a White Van.

  • a white van?

  • Yep. Someone removed the story from Wikipedia. They edited it so it doesn't mention the story about how in the last few days he was paranoid of a white van following him

  • He was convinced that a white van was following him everywhere and it was people from Dreamworks spying on him. He very well may have been as well according to one source.

  • joshy, you say he's performing in a night club but I see sealed records in the background with a mini fridge with juice drinks. Are you sure this isn't a used record store?

  • He was playing at a record store called Stinkweeds in Tempe, Arizona

  • He was playing at a record store called Stinkweeds in Tempe, Arizona.

  • I wish the camera man stood to the left so i could see what he's playing

  • no shit huh! this is about the most solid recording i've seen of him playing early and more or less sober

  • If there is really still question as to if Alameda is in L.A. then look at the time he made it. He was living in Portland at the time he made Either/Or

    Not L.A.

    good enough?

  • even if it's a street in l.a. and portland it still appropriately relates to him. remember, he loved portland and then fell in love with l.a. beautiful song written by an amazing songwriter.

  • Alameda is a street on the east side of the Willamette River in Portland Oregon, I don't recall the cross street, but it's about 30 blocks east of the river.

And Condor Ave. is on the west side, in the hills.

  • I know this is about a street in Portland (or is it seattle) but I am from the City of Alameda, California and just the style of the song justs fits the mood of the town. Love Elliott and I question who he was followed by in his last years. CIA :/ ?

  • i read it's a street in portland too

  • It's also a street in L.A.........but its probably about Portland.

  • how lucky to have seen him live and oh so close

  • alameda talent...lovely songs.. got his new CD yesterday

  • new moon?

  • it would have been awesome to see him like this

  • It is may 3, 1997 at stinkweed's in tempe, AZ

  • i know this is from stinkweed's in arizona if that helps out at all

  • My favourite song of all time. There is none better.

  • 66, 666 views!

  • does anybody know where one can find a bootleg of this show?

or at least identify what this's called, so some people can go find it.

    t.y.

  • go to the sweetadeline links section and there's a ton of links to places where you can download bootlegs.

  • check out the videos by popnrock2...they are from this same show and they are fucking amazing...alphabet town is probably the greatest thing ive seen on youtube to date

  • even a little gig like this he sounds great! I wish my voice were that good!

  • I wish I were half as good as Elliott and could make my music as emotional as his. I'd love to have been able to seen a small intimate show like this.

  • DonG???? What you thinking there?!?!?! LOL...good song though!

  • if there's a dong that describes my life this is it

  • DonG???? What you thinking there?!?!?! LOL...good song though!

  • you seem to be a smart girl so i'm sure you understand that i was meaning to type song ok? i'm a busy man who can't stop to check every little comment. Also I learned english listening to music and watching movies so once in a while i'll change a letter or two.

    Dong? haha it's funny tough...

  • was just teasing yo...no harm...i've done the same...

  • i hate you

  • It's too bad you are homophobic. I don't blame you, friend. I blame your upbringing and your religion.

  • Are you saying you dont like Elliot Smith?

  • no it's youtube i responded to the guy saying the gay thing...i love elliott smith and his music

  • Ok good

  • RIP Elliot

  • *love* a beautiful performance of one of my fav Elliott songs.

  • I am so thankful that we have his beauty to hear through words and music. The softness of his voice and the beautiful chords he used...simply magnificent. RIP Elliott.

  • It makes me sad that not everyone is capable of understanding the simple beauty of Elliott's songs...I wish I could share how I feel about this song, but there is just no way. I just get a slew of different images, some memories, and a feeling of both nostalgia and regret and something else that makes me listen to this song over and over. Elliott was such a great tunesmith and knew how to play in order to cause emotion otherwise difficult to express. Miss him so, so much.

  • You shouldn't be sad, but happy that you like it so much! Other people aren't important whilst listening/liking/understanding music. ;)

  • @rejecteddefect wow, honey, i feel the SAME way. this is by far my favorite song. reminds of stuff i can't even explain and brings back stuff i'd rather forget, but i just won't let myself. never seen this song performed live before, absolutely beautiful

  • 5 star song, haunting indeed.

  • oblong, brilliant

  • this is not a small club, but actually a record shop called "Stinkweeds" in Arizona

  • does anyone know what kind of amp he is using here?

  • i love this song

  • i'd face down bow to the champion that is elliott

  • okay, does anyone notice how elliot smith sounds like he strumming and picking at the same time when he plays? HOW THE FUCK DOES HE DO THAT

  • He's fingerpicking at the beginning alternating with strumming. When you hear the strumming/fingerpicking sound while he's singing, he's strumming with his right hand, but changing frets with his left hand.

  • because he is quite simply a genius.

  • he was an amazing guitarist like that; truly.

  • listen to whatever (folk song in c) its even crazier in that song

  • that was actually easier :) for me to play at least.

    just CFG and Am chords.

this song is way more complex.

  • This is excellent. Thank you for sharing!!

  • this is special ...thanks poster , thanks Elliott x

  • thanks for posting this...he's so beautiful

  • He sure knows human emotions. I wish I knew him.

  • chairman lmao. Oblong.

    Elliott Smith is a baaabe.

  • whoever filmed this and put this up, thank you.

    i love elliott.

  • what an intimate performance here. he could sing me to sleep.

  • is this north carolina?

  • no its in arizona

  • I love this song. A lot.

  • i live on alameda st in portland. its quite pretty

  • Super version merci

  • Elliott Smith is the shit. All too unknown...everyone spread him around. It will help the world.

  • hes better because hes oblong, i would be so pissed if they started playing him on the radio along with that shitty R.E.M. and Fall out boy

  • I'm pretty sure you don't mean oblong.Obscure,perhaps?

  • nope i mean OBLONG

  • and are you sure you mean R.E.M not Eminem? generally you wouldn't put R.E.M in the same box as fall out boy in terms of shitty stuff they overplay on the radio, not where i am from anyway.

  • Eminem is shit too but they play alot of R.E.M. in edmonton alberta

  • REM is awesome though.

  • dont like them

  • check out my New Elliott Smith Covers!

  • you are a fuckin prick

  • you are pretty cold

  • "Elliott Smith was right when he said that, Nobody broke my heart,

    yeah I broke my own,

    cause I can't finish what I start."

This is a Trophy Scars lyric.

  • anyone know if this set was played at "stinkweeds" in tempe, az? thanks. love the store kimber.

  • there's even great songs with just 2 (!) chords: "horse with no name" for example, and "the trees" (pulp)

  • i love his strumming with the little licks inbetween. he's got a great own style of folk/fingerpicking and some weird chords.

  • HE never smiles. Just solemn. A genius all sad and somber.xoxo

  • everyone thinks that but all the people that knew him said he switched between the dark depressing person and a really funny upbeat person all the time. Most people just tend to focus on the sad part cus his lyrics are mostly sad.

  • i find it hard playing and singing his songs at the same time, same thing seemed to happen to him

  • He's not a bad guitarist, as well as being a top class songwriter.

  • same here lol

  • this is an 'in store' performance, a record store, not a small club.

  • stinkweeds,AZ

  • hahaha..yeah

  • was this just right after either/or came out?

  • DAMN how does he play the solo AND the chords at the same time?! is there some kind of technique i dont know about [obviously]

  • i don't know, but i'm fuckin stoned.

  • hahahahhaahha me too

  • hahaha

  • Simply, he's fucking skilled and talented and amazing at what he does!

  • yes, there is a technique...

  • he seems very happy, i love it

  • yeah people have a twisted view on the association between Drugs and music, Most musicians get into drugs once they get big, because, thats whats the sdene is like for them.

  • I was blessed to have had a beer with him. He was playing in Heatmiser and the band stayed at our house, so I got to share time with this super genius.

  • i just had to comment on this, thats amazinggggggg i would do anything to meet him... maybe someday

  • why can you cry with all his songs ?

  • The Junk killed him. Period.............

  • Yeah.. fucking drugs.. Someone always comes along justifying drugs as some sort of genious/talent in powder form, but fuck that. Elliott was amazing both with or without junk. He was truely talented and a beautiful soul. I miss you Elliott :(

  • Will love him and his music forever. RIP Elliott Smith, we all miss you.

  • Simply a genius

  • Yea I discoverd him before his death, in Chicago they played his music on public radio and I totally fell in love with it. RIP Elliot

  • It's sad when you discover a musican this good after his death!

  • RIP Elliott, thank you for your beautiful gift.

  • I will kick myself for years for missing his Dallas show because I thought my job was worth missing a show for. It was the other way around...Damn, I hate myself for that.
