  • You can also do this on the pocket.

  • @gallagher123123 Please check your email here on YouTube for a more detailed response.

  • Do you think you will go back to this hardware again. If you do i think you should get the book port plus. YOu will love it because the wifi feachers are out. You can listen to internet radio streams and download podcasts. You can also send files wirelessly.

  • These cassettes are an excellent way to be able to read again if you can longer see. THe Only problem with them though...Is the fact that you can't control exactly what the the library service sends you. You CAN request t yes, but there is no guarantee of what and when you get it. This plexi-talk is NEat ! I think this vid as always! Your vids are always informative, educational, and entertaining! KEEP-EM COMING!!! (HUGS) Ssmiles :))

  • Wonderful device.

  • To bad the Plex Talk Pocket uses Microsoft Windows, I would like something like that but with Linux as the OS, I got a VRS from rehab for the blind, glad plex didn't play NLS books at the time, if it was around.

  • @wheelieblind The PTP1 was out in 09.

  • You have a cool device, I also have a C-1

  • @wheelieblind Thanks. I now have a Book Sense.

  • I have one of those, I've started to use the digital cartage reader from the library too. I find that I continue to receive tapes too. I have a Victor reader stream, anything that takes SD cards is better. Even my portable 4 track recorder is bulky compared to the VRS, which already has been working with the NLS books. That's a cool device. The VRS using file numbers for storing notes, but allows me to make types of bookmarks, it has a longer battery life too.

  • speaking of the ipod touch, can you enlarge the fonts and icons for better viewing?

  • Only in certain apps if you have a 1st gen 2nd gen or 3rd gen 8 GB. 3rd gen 32 & 64 GB come with a built in magnifier that requires you to pan around with three fingers. There is also a high contrast utility and a port of the VoiceOver screen reader.

  • as someone who is also visually impaired, i appreciate the information and your presentation.

  • Whatis the cost?

I wish they would make this stuff more affordable for us folks on limited income. I doubt it is under 500$, like that darn JAWS CD?

  • The PlexTalk Pocket is $350.

  • It sounds as if you have the playback speed set to a faster than normal speed, is that correct?

  • You are right, however, I have slowed it down since then.

  • I understand from previous videos that you use an iPod touch, but now that you have the PlexTalk, would you use the PlexTalk for listening to music instead of your iPod? Will you continue to use the iPod now that you have this unit?

  • I will need to continue to use the iPod for music since most of my music is in AAC format which the PlexTalk cannot read.

  • Is there any specific reason why you went for the PlexTalk Pocket over the Victor Reader Stream? How well does the PlexTalk work with Mac OS? Is the audio quality any good when you listen to music with stereo headphones? Do you have bass and treble controls when listening to music? The unit looks very attractive, it's also available in white.

  • A few reasons. The biggest one being the better suite of recording capabilities and the pocketable DAISY studio (by which I mean you can build books with it). The Mac OS will recognize it as a card reader, but for some reason, Leopard remounts the SD card so quickly that you have to press the power button immediately after ejecting it or it will remount & unmount in a fraction of a second & cause issues. Use a 3rd party reader instead. The CD comes with documentation, but no software to speak of

  • That is nice and very protable it al mist looks like a cell phone I would like to have one, I already put in my request for the new digital flash player that will be available later this year through the Texas State Talking Book Program. I read in another comment that it was $30.00 more did you get the plex talk on your won or through a program for the blind?

  • The PlexTalk is $30 more than the stream but the extra $ gives you a free 2 GB SD card and some extra features like a usable external speaker (compared to the Stream's super-tiny one), and more recording possibilities (including DAISY recording and converting tapes or LPs to digital form). I got it as a birthday gift from my father.

  • Is it really hard to use that? I'm watching you navigate it and I'm totally lost!

  • It's very easy to use provided you have used DAISY in the past.

  • Oh ok.

  • I forgot to add that the unit can also record audio music from other sources such as tape decks or even external CD-ROM drives. It also ahs preset settings for things like conferences and analog tape recordings.

  • This was $30 more than the stream but it came with a free SD card and has more recording options (which is nice becuase I remember as a kid I loved to do audio recordings with a tape recorder) and it records in WMA/MP3, it can also record DAISY - you can insert headings as you record. Also the speaker on this one is very usable - i'm listening to Yanni on it as I type this, and the sound quality is very good. You can only order it through IRTI or other PlexTalk dealers.

  • What kind of speech synthesizer does it use? I believe the victor reader stream has an internal speech synthesizer that reads text only books. Does the plex talk pocket do that too?

  • It uses the Nuance Vocalizer for the speech synthesis and recorded human speech for the prompts. Just liek the stream. The PlexTalk also does the reading of text books, but the plus is that you don't have to use headphones 100% - the external speaker is actually very usable on this. The PlexTalk will read text only titles such as Bookshare, it will also read TXT & HTML documents with the embedded speech synthesis.

  • wow that's a really cool device.

I'm so glade you got it.

Its going to be of great use.

I can't wait until you do a full video review of it.

    I'll be waiting for that.
