The similarity to the Glenn Miller Orchestra was entirely intentional. In the late 40s RCA was in a major dispute with Tex Beneke over how the so-called "official" Miller orchestra would be run. Tex knew that Miller was planning more modern sounds but the suits at RCA wanted the band to be permanently frozen in 1941. When RCA severed their ties to Beneke they needed a "replacement" so they tapped Flanagan whose arranging talents let him copy the Miller Sound fairly closely (but w/ 2 clarinets)

This is Flanagan's touring band...He was a music composer originallly..composed for many of the big bands...Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, etc. He went on to have his own orchestra..wrote every note..to many songs! He's brilliant!! made many bands famous with his talent =)))))

Danced to this band, early 50's. ,They were touring , mostly one nighters. Rock Springs Park, Chester, W. Va.

Any idea what year this is from? The Flanagan band recorded it for RCA in 1950 with an all-star studio band, but this is probably his touring band of mostly younger guys shown here.

You could be right, I think this dates from around the mid 50's, I also have is earlier recordings....Of course the band could sound very millerish especially when he used quite a few of Glenn's sidemen on his studio recordings...
