Eccohawk has an interesting point though, I think I would buy this 'digital newspaper', but I guess since less and less people actually read voluntarily funding for it would be limited to help launch it if at all.
I agree with those who say it´s rather disappointing, I was really expecting something more spectacular. Anywayz I guess it must be quite expensive to issue 100 000 of those, a matter of costs. Reminds me of those picture-changing rulers I had back in the 80s ;). But hey it´s only 6 bucks!
I think that (and someone corect me if I'm wrong) the lab making the e-ink display teamed up with esquire directly (with Ford sponsorship to take some of the cost off of us)
When i first heard about this i thought brilliant..i can't wait to see what they end up doing with the graphics? and this is it? you can't be serious? i can imagine the editor in chief or the business manager trying to cheap out on the whole deal, what A LET DOWN, you blew it big time.! i was going to rush out and buy it, but i think I'll pass, a golden opportunity and for what? damn the bean counters, if you want to compete with the net DO IT WELL or don't bother.!
You have to understand that this is the FIRST implemenation of this technology out of a lab. It's not advanced enough yet to change colors or anything. Just on and off. It has nothing to do with the editor or business manager being cheap. So yes, this is all there is but this is just the first step in e-ink and e-paper tech and it is an exciting one.
Eventually, the magazines will just be one page of e-ink (color version is coming within a couple years) and you'll just download all the issues into the same single page of 'paper' and be able to get your daily newspapers wirelessly updated as well.
That is just a silly idea. Why will I be carrying something just to read newspapers????? That's really stupid! Even more when you consider recent advances in display technology. One only needs a processing unit capable of wireless connections, perhaps even inside of a flexible display and suddenly you have a highly portable computer, no need for an absurd "digital newspaper"!!! Search Youtube for "k6bkmPjVF-k" , "JFDyWGstZ-g" , and "sgm-_EiA62M"
You're basicly saying the exact same thing as eccohawk just did. Of course I do agree that it is more cost-effective to just have one e-paper computer that you then download whatever you want onto it.
But yeah, next time try expressing your opinon without jumping down the other person's throat.
CHILL OUT fmafan3410!! I wasn't even "talking" to you, I was replying to a comment by Eccohawk. Jeez, are you two lovers or something?
And NO, I wasn't saying the same thing as him, next time try and read it. I was saying the idea of of having a device dedicated only for e-paper makes no sense!
I m not impressed. Next please

I picked mine up at the Barnes and Noble in Downtown Brooklyn this past Saturday. That had a standalone rack with about 100 of them.
