HANGINGS TO GOOD FOR HIM BURNINGS TO GOOD FOR HIM HE SHOULD BE TORN INTO LITTLE BITSY PIECES AND BURRIED ALIVE!!!!!!!!! I KILL HIM KILL HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is one of my favorite parts in this movie
"Lincoln Stern, you stand here accused of: 12 counts of murder in the first degree, 14 counts of armed theft of Federation property, 22 counts of piracy in high space, 18 counts of fraud, 37 counts of rape, and one moving violation."
A few years ago, I represented a defendant during an arraignment in federal court. As the judge stated the potential consequences of conviction he said "A maximum sentence of 10 years, a maximum fine of $10,000 and a $500 court cost assessment" I guffaw'd
STERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRN! He's nothing but a low down, double dealing, back stabbing larcinist perverted worm! Hangings too good for him! Burning's too good for him! He should be torn into little bitty pieces and buried alive!
There was a comic book series starring Stern , the one eyed robot and Fiste which centered around this segment. Turns out Stern IS a pirate who blundered into a conspiracy, and really was framed by the villain to get rid of him after trying to kill him failed
. Fiste was always working for Stern even before and after this. They kind of ignored Stern killed him in Heavy Metal. ( they might have explained it but i dont know how they did for the books)
Hanover Fiste is a play on the phrase "Making money hand over fist,which is another euphemism on the old practice of coining money in gold,the coin was pounded with a hammer and cut holding a die cutter hence the term making money hand over fist...sigh like anyone cares.
@justaman6972 Interesting. I love finding out the origins of phrases like that. Too bad we're still not using gold instead of increasingly worthless Federal Reserve Notes.
@Zeppo11767 Indeed, Words have power. Particularly when the words are exclusive to a den of theives and liars and in a dead tongue ,(Latin). FRN's have no intrinsic value again true. Were I looking to a medium of portable land,which is what gold and silver really are, I would be looking to the more common and thereby more commonly acceptable silver as that method of barter.Glad you dig the entomology.Examine what the phrase"The rule of thumb" means.Most folks could care less.
@Zeppo11767 yes thats very true.looks like the currancy situation is in meltdowne."we are advising all our clients to invest in canned food and shotguns"

@elfinarcher84 cool I always thought I was an isolated freak. The etymology is fascinating and we use them all the time and have no idea where the meanings came from.Anyway thanks for the comment. Pax Aut Bellum...
Oh Hello Squidwar........... I mean Hanover Fiste. Tell Me, tell me if you hate Captain Stern will you hate the fact that there is a Sponge that drives you crazy and makes you BREAK your clarinet? Fiste, I think you can take out somebody if you are in court with a talking starfish as the Sponge's lawyer.
If you need help, call me - Jonathan Pattison XD
Gotta love Rodger Bumpass's voice here. When he goes crazy, he sounds like a insane Squidward. XD
It will kinda make you fall "outwards", which in this case happens to be "downwards" in the context of the spaceship. What bothers me is the fact that in space NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM and also you kind of explode.
@ViciousAlienKlown Oh, I agree wholeheartedly...guess I shouldn't have lol'ed, I was just thinking about if you went to a record store nowadays (they still have those, right?), you'd never see Cheap Trick in the heavy metal section. Kinda sad really.

@Thedoctor19000: What you say is true, since gravity is ubiquitous within the entire cosmos. Regarding Hanover Fiste falling from a opening in the floor of the ship, it just appears exaggerated (even if it is an animated film) when in reality his mass would remain in free fall in the orbit of a body of mass. He just falls like he is inside the orbit of a planet.
Yes and he's awesome, did you ever see this movie on cable back in the 80's as a kid or on video as a teen in the 90's? i noticed your an 80's kid. Do you also remember other adult animated movies back then like Starchaser Legend of Orin, Rock and Rule, Warriors of the Wind (aka the 1985 crude edit of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind from New World), American Pop and Pink Floyd The Wall as a kid?
I grew up with this movie since i was 12 about 18 years ago when i saw it on TBS with Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop and Rock and Rule as they blew me away and i loved them. I became a fan instantly! for anyone who enjoys this movie i recommend Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Warriors of the Wind), Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Pink Floyd The wall, American Pop, Wizards, Fist of the North Star, Urotsukidoji Legend of the Overfiend, Wicked City, Fantastic Planet, Starchaser etc.
I just read the original comic, and this movie is practically it verbatim. The only differences are the green marble in the beginning and everything after Stern hands Hanover the money (Fiste doesn't shrink, but instead stands there happy saying "s'nothin'" - no "boss" and no "good-bye")
@Influx27 Nice to know. I like this sequence because for one, the animation is actually consistent and good. I started ordering old Heavy Metal issues just to see the original material of the film, and I never got to the issue with Captain Stern. It was disappointing, though, that So Beautiful and So Dangerous was originally much more in depth.
@TakumProti The comic is on "captainsternn dot con" under the "Sternn Beginnings" page
as for So Beautiful So Dangerous, even without reading the original comic I think anyone can tell that that sequence is all messed - it breaks continuity when the robot and girl leave the ship before the ship even docks - so I guess it's not that surprising that there's a ton of other stuff wrong with it too.
Ah another fan of HM magazine, even me. Do you think that magazine is very influential among many movies? filmmakers like James Cameron, Luc Besson, Ridley Scott and others are huge fans of HM magazine as it was an influence over many movies like Blade Runner, Avatar, Fifth Element and more. You gotta admit Avatar had the feel of both HM magazine and the animated movie since Cameron is a huge fan of both sources and used them as some of the ingredients.
@Johnlindsey289 :o\ I'm kinda young to really be a fan of the magazine, at least of the earlier printings. I suppose I could've started buying copies when I turned 18, but it's a huge pain to get back issues and I really don't feel like forking over the cash for them anyway. I read the few copies I found in some old boxes in my basement plus what little I can find online. Other than that I simply watch this movie (2000 sucked) and read about the comics (no comment on its influence on directors).
Do you also remember other cool not for the kiddies animated movies like Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Fantastic Planet, LightYears, Fire and Ice, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind), Rock and Rule, Wicked City, Vampire Hunter d 1 & 2, Ninja Scroll, American Pop, Pink Floyd's The Wall, wizards, South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut, Urotsukidoji Legend of the Overfiend, Princess Mononoke, Fist of the North Star, Golgo 13 The Professional etc.?
"STERNN!!! He's nothin' but a low-down, double-dealin', back-stabbin', larcenous, perverted worm!! Hangin's too good for 'im!! Burnin's too good for 'im!! He should be torn into little bitsy pieces, and BURIED ALIVE!!! I'LL KILL 'IM!!! KILL!!!"
The ones that are next are the ones that want to take national health care away from Americans, but want to keep their own SOCIALIST health care that they get for being Representatives and Senators. MAKE BOEHNER AND MCCONNELL and other assholes like them GIVE UP THEIR "SOCIALIST"healthcare, make the bastards WALK THEIR TALK!
Gotta love the stereotypical Jewish lawyer representing Stern. "Hangin's too good for 'em, burnin's too good for 'em, he oughta be torn into little itty bitty pieces and buried alive!"
Not that anyone cares, but there was a semi-sequel to the Trial of Captain Sternn done as a three issue limited series comic book sometime back in 1996.
"The Further Adventures of Captain Sternn" I believe.
Sternn is nothin' but a low-down, double-dealin', back-stabbin', larcenous perverted WORM!! Hanging's too good for him! Burning's too good for him! He should be torn into little-bitty pieces and buried alive! ~ Hanover Fiste
We used to go see this at the midnight movies back in the early 80's. It would be shown back to back with either Led Zeppelins Song Remains the Same or WIZARDS....red eyes and all :-}
they MUST make another Heavy Metal, this time though with the feel of a music video, I don't think that was their intention but, that's just how it came out.
Well apparently they are gonna make a new one with filmmakers like James Cameron, David Fincher, Guillermo Del Toro, Gore Verbinski, Jack Black and Rob Zombie gonna do it. They are gonna have the new film with 13 stories with different animation such as 2D handdrawn, Clay animation, CGI, Stop Motion, Sketchy and Japanese animation in each story.
Hangin's too good for him, Burnin's too good for him.. He should be torn into itsy-bitsy pieces and BURIED ALIIIIVE!!!

Not that anyone cares, but there was a semi-sequel to the Trial of Captain Sternn done as a three issue limited series comic book sometime back in 1996.
"The Further Adventures of Captain Sternn" I believe.

We used to go see this at the midnight movies back in the early 80's. It would be shown back to back with either Led Zeppelins Song Remains the Same or WIZARDS....red eyes and all :-}

Captain Sternn looks and sounds like Captain Qwark. (Without the green uniform.)

this movie is a must for music lovers.
they MUST make another Heavy Metal, this time though with the feel of a music video, I don't think that was their intention but, that's just how it came out.
stardingo747 2 years ago
Good gawd I hope they don't make another. This one is perfect just as it is and shouldn't be meddled with.
pang5 2 years ago
@pang5
