We need to find out *what* Maranatha/Hain/Celestial's pasteurization process is. Is it the type that preserves the enzymes (see BettBee's link below) or are they autoclave sterilized or gassed?
These farms (listed below) purport to sell raw organic almonds direct to consumers. I'd appreciate a) feedback if you know of these farms and b) other links as well. Have Green Star juicer and a VitaMix is on its way to me, so will make own darn almond butter, no bumming out necessary!
Want some Vitamin D? Sit in the damn sun without sunblock! And D2 comes from mushrooms! So eat 'em and just chill. We need to be balanced and not obsess about nutrition.
Bummer Award to America. We are supposedly smart people. Smart people don't design products or technologies that harm themselves. Its really a shame that we humans could be so evil.
I seem to recall legislation that passed forcing all raw almonds sold in this country to be pasteurized. I think it was some bogus reason (like 2 cases of e coli or something) which drove this legislation. Maybe Maranatha was forced to the use raw almonds that were available to them. Is there a way to get raw almonds that are not pasteurized, or is that legislation for the whole US?
I've been buying "RAW" nuts and seeds from Trader Joes and on-line for a while now and I keep finding information like this that makes me realize that they have been heated and aren't really "RAW". I don't think that it is fair at all that they are legally able to call it "RAW". There are a million other words they could use and they are obviously trying to get raw foodists to continue to buy their products instead of seeking alternative sources of it.
I wish I had seen this video last month. I purchased MaraNatha Almond Butter and I thought it tasted funny. It had a different taste and I couldn't put my finger on it.
A good brand to try is Trader Joe's Raw Almond Butter. I love it, because it reminds me of amalu, a Moroccan spread with argan oil, honey, and almond paste. I take the TJ Almond Butter, raw honey, and argan oil, mix it in a food processor and use it as a snack on pita bread or whole wheat pancakes. Very good!

@BettBee Also these folks have a method of pasteurization that effects only the surface of the nut. It can still be sprouted.
