  • nice work ....... bird like attributes are g8

  • nice work .......

  • Very nice n original idea, really

  • what are they doing?

  • What would happen if we switched the T-rex legs with the hands? Would it look more like a bird? Kind've reminds you of the time when they mixed up the neck with the tail on another dinosaur.

  • Hmm, I did notice the birdlike qualities of one of them. Interesting stuff. Good work! :)

  • heheh sound effects of Chewbacca!

  • Wow, this was posted over a year ago and I just stumbled across it now. Great work! Love the bird like movements in the neck and head. Love the textures too. The posturing and behaviour is interesting. Nice to see a T act more like a bird, heh. Cheers

  • Only one word for this: awesome! 5/5*

  • that T-Rex is me

not able to get a good woman so forced to hit one stupid ones with bird minds

    .....Im sad now

  • cool! 5/5 + fav

  • is that a male and female t-rex im not sure if the male is trying to flirt with her to make her mate with him.but i know it was unsuccessful.

  • the males the smaller one

  • "nice video" was that a mating ritual.

  • that was awesome! Superb rendering, cool animation, although sometimes the necks of the dinosaurs sometimes seem a little jerky.

    Also, really nice sound effects!

  • Awesome!!

  • cool!

  • real.

  • Damn dude your stupid...

  • My what?

  • no fucking duh its not real dumb ass shit head cant you just enjoy?!

  • did you use some 3d program or chroma key

  • I will give you 2,000 for a tyranasous mode.

  • Do you mean $2000 for a Tyrannosaurus model?

  • I couldn't really make out the personality differences, but to me it looked like a male t-rex trying to court a female, but was unsuccessful.

  • okay so i got a lot of 3d animting programs but i need to now how you make a movie and all that kinda stuff so can enyboddy give me a website where i can read about that. or just tell me about it give me a link or somthing please. reply :D thx

  • You will need a compositing program like after effects or something of that nature and then you can just edit the scenes together. It would help to draw out some storyboards too before you start.

  • I can do all this in 3DS MAX. I don't need some compositing program.

  • what's the software and where did u get it

  • Maya, University project so the school supplied the software

  • @matPolaschek what is the difference between maya and max?

  • I can do all this in 3DS MAX. I don't need some compositing program.

  • ?? k

  • Not trying to be an arse but that bird like tyrannosaur should have been based on a larger bird. It was acting like a sparrow, where it should be acting more like a falcon or maybe an eagle.

  • Or a secretary bird, that's a really good choice.

  • 0.0 how long did this take you to do!? its f****** amazing!!!

  • NICE man you have a Talent keep going (im trying to do trex now, is Maya hard to use?)

  • nah i didnt think it was, once you get used to te panel layouts.

  • what is your software

  • Hey, I used maya for this and composited with after effects

  • did u use 3d max for this?

    i have version 9

  • I am very impressed, You see a lot of people's vision on how a T-rex will hunt, but this is unique. How a T-rex plays and seeks after a mate. I love the behavior patterns and sounds. Great Job!

  • rad

  • two terexies have sex. this should be r rated

  • Awesome!!

  • lmao i dont know how but that was pretty funny!

  • Also, if you do another video of this, try not to make the bird-based tyrannosaur pose its body vertically, you got me to think it was the hollywood t.rex for a while till i noticed the fast head motion.

  • Holy jesus, nice animation! Also, what sound files did you use? One of them sounds like it came from the Ankylosaurs from Carnivores 2.

  • Nice animation!! How did you put this together and how long have you been doing this?

  • wow, my mind is blown, seriously, that is so good

  • mis animales favoritos

  • is it flash program

  • hoq did you do that? !its a favorite now!

  • Very large animals which sue posturing tend to use more subtle postures not easily seen by the human eye (like great whites) something you might want to consider next time for a creature which may not be able to make as swift of movements as, say, a sparrow. I'd take a look at gator posturing and try that instead of hollywood posturing if you ever do this again. I think it'd be really interesting.

  • Probably wouldn't be the best, seeing as the posture of a bipedal bird is closer to that of a Tyrannosaurus.

I think this is an excellent animation. What program did you use?

  • Oh wait, sorry, you used Maya.

  • yes but their minds are more similar to a croc's.

  • Its true, I think that the bird-like tyrannosaur moved a little faster than it was capable of...

  • tot they were doin the mating ritual hahaha

  • which way do you like better?

  • did u make this or was it someone else

  • I made this for a university assignment

  • cool looks like Walking with Dinosaurs

  • which 1 was the one with the mental knowledge that was made by human directors and which was the realistic bird knowledged 1?

  • at begining, bird(left) holywood(right)

  • lol

  • The one that roars second is the bird one right? I can tell from the neck cock.

  • yep thats right!

  • wouldn't it be quite difficult for tyrannosaurus to cock it head so quickly?plus rex might've been slow like movie rex,but would have still acted like bird rex, thats wut i think.

  • Yeah it would be, but this is supposed to be an exaggeration. I will do another one soon, but maybe with just one rex.

  • i think a combination of the two would make the perfect rex :)

  • great animation and BRILLIANT sound effects!!!!!!!

  • cool , great animating

  • Those sounds came from an old dinosaur hunting game...forgot the name of it though.

  • Carnivores

  • soo Cool wanted to study them all my life

  • nice render

  • just a quick question, how did you do the dust effects? lol @ 00:14 I love that little waddle

  • Hey, I used After Effects. There was a plug-in that a friend gave me. It hada range of effects that came with it, then you can just customise them to get the right look.

  • Cool, but the roars are all wrong. Improve that. Besides that, it looks good.

  • Who says? We don't know what they really sounded like.

  • i like it!

  • wow the t-rexes are in a mexican stand off lol

  • holy shit that was so good!!!! its like the ilm's dinosaurs!!!!! wow!!! five stars!

  • nice...

  • lol this is so cool

  • dat was cool!

  • FANTASTIC!!!

  • good-crazy

  • that was so frikken asome!!!

graet job by the way ;)

  • 2 things.

1: WOW...that's really good. better than any other dino CGs (besides Jurassic Park, discovery channel....etc.) I've seen.

2: Unless the female was a juvenile, (according to my prior knowledge) there isn't one. Females are supposed to be larger than the males, and more aggressive. But that's only from things like Walking With Dinosaurs and such.

  • Thanks for your kind comments!

In regards to the the colouration issue people keep refering to, both the dinosaurs are t-rex and thus female. One dinosaur is younger than the other (more like a teenager) and therefore has more colour (like birds).

  • pretty nice animation. The behaviour it'self.I don't thin the bird like behavior was right. Movements to quick fr an animal that's size. also the dispaling wouldn't work eithe. Doubt rex could get vertical, plus arms are to small to intimadate. The other rex might be more accurate. But 'd say if two rexes displayed, it would ba roaring and snapping. And then they might attack, since there's evidence they had aggression issues

  • Spectacular animation! :D

  • Very nice, but which is which? Both appear to have the same general behavior, though one appears to be male and the other female (just going off coloration there).

  • Hey TRm. I think the one that reared slightly annd jerked its head a lot was the bir

  • how do you know which one was male or female? None of us do really because supposedly no human being lived back then. How in the world would you know coloration?

  • I don't know the actual coloration; I'm going on biology. In reptiles and birds the male is often the most brightly colored, while females are much more drab.

  • ahhh got ya.. just wondering!

  • Sorry, I meant "Awesome! :D"

  • Awesome! :d

  • Question: How accurate is the sharpness of the movement of the bird behaviour Tyrannosaur to the actual ability of the muscle to contract and expand?

  • This was one of my first animations, if I were to do it again a lot of the movements would be different. The speed of the neck movements for example are much too quick and would be more suitable to a dinosaur of velociraptor's size (not the one's on Jurassic Park that have been fed growth hormones). This is more of a movie dinosaur where exaggeration has been used to accentuate character.

  • Hmm my thoughts exactly. Thanks.

  • Very nice, good job. Hey is this one of those 68 million year old T-rex or one of those that lived in the last few thousand years?? just wondering. Good Job once again.Cool

  • Thanks for your kind words :) This is from 65 million years+, haven't heard of any that have lived in the last few thousand years!

  • you havent been listening then.

  • Who are you referencing?

  • you they are alive i tell you!

  • Some of the best I've seen for dinosaurs. I like the bird-like movements, also. If you dont already have a job doing this I bet you could work for the science channel doing their dinosaur specials pretty easily.

  • where do i get Maya

  • Peer to Peer program probably, I did this at school si I didn't have to download it.

  • why don't u make a remake of this and show the male t-rex and the female mating it will be very artistic

  • wow a very good video

  • VERY nice work! I will be keeping an eye out for more of your work!

  • Hmmm....Things like this confuse me. With all the modeling and stuff. I have Gmax and Maya and can't use them well....I can animate though. Just can't model. Very nice work here.

  • very good animation and the sound is great!!

  • How long did it take you to do?

  • About 11 weeks, but with 2 weeks of rendering. Could probably do this in 4 or so weeks now that I am more experienced.

  • no i mean who do i make my own dinosaur movie

  • Hey, you need to get a copy of a program called Maya. This allows you to model, rig bones, animate, light the scene and render your character. I used Headus UV Layout for creating a UV map and then textured this map with photoshop. Finally I rendered out the characters and composited them, into a scene using After Effects. The scenes were created from a variety of photo's and made using Photoshop.

  • which website did u get the computer animation i wanna make my dinosaurs too

  • Sorry I don't understand the question. I created the animation from scratch, no website. If you are talking about the software then I used a version of Maya from school.

  • As far as i know you probably can, but from what i hear people use 3ds max for gaming, lightwave for buildings, and maya for movies!

  • Dude this is sweet! what kind of software did you use?

  • Maya for the modeling and animation, Photoshop for the textures and After Effects for the compositing. I will upload a new animation soon with a diplodocus or something.

  • dude did you animate this yourself?!

  • Yeah I did, took about two weeks to animate and took me a bit of time to set up a model(with good topology), rig and textures.

  • excellet job! wonder if its a real movie but i think it is an animation but the texture is so detAiled!
