  • In college we were told that you couldnt assume between 0.1cm3 unless you had the markings. I could be wrong but I doubt it reads to 0.05cm3 (It annoys me not being able to do it though). Also I would like to state the importance of making sure your burette is straight. i.e. clamped firmly enough. Aside from that, great video

  • @ironnica Our school has biurettes to 0.05, if the meniscus is inbetween the lines

  • @TheCoolstorybrother I think you may have misunderstood. What I mean is we were told not to call it 0.05ml if the graduations were only 0.1ml. As in, you couldnt call it a 0.05. Its a while since i've gotten to use a burette, but that looks like a 50ml one. I know the 25ml ones usually do.

  • gd teacher.. upload more videos =)..

    you are very good teacher!!

  • how to perform masturbation

  • DROP THE BASE

  • BTB?

  • The kids got excited when it turns yellow! Just like I did when my teacher did this :D ! Good Ole' Days!

  • He is such a good teacher!! I wish he was my chemistry teacher - and he is either from New Zealand or Australia.

  • @Neylena New Zealand.

  • haha, I like teaching kids better than cynical adults.. those "awws" make it worth the trouble :D

  • That was a really good lesson, those students are lucky...

  • I want him for our chemistry teacher D:

  • THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR INTEREST! ANY QUESTIONS OR REQUESTS: JoeTheAlchemist

  • OMG HES ENGLISH :D

this lesson is now 75% more interesting!!!! :D

  • @AJtheforgetful pretty sure he's australian :)

  • bromothymol blue

  • hahaha each time the color changes the clas is lik wooooow haha

  • i open this video as an excuse to be on the laptop :P

  • Awesome teacher.

  • Teach for as long as possible. We NEED teachers like you who are thorough, dedicated and excited about teaching the sciences. Great vid for people who aren't taking chemistry in the classroom.

  • Free hat!!!

  • Free hat!

  • Fedje.

  • mkay...

  • Sigurd er dum

  • This is the WORST titration performing I´ve ever seen! 0_o

  • kjemmien stemmer sendte meg hit!

  • What a teacher, srsly - if every teacher on earth were like him , we would all been Einsteins ;)

  • What a teacher, srsly - if every teacher on earth were like him , we would all been Einsteins ;)

  • Damn he's good

  • OOOHHHHHHHH 2:54 haha lol

  • THANK-YOU for telling me what exactly back titration is!!! SO helpful! Awesomely explained too!!!

  • thx for poinging out the right-left hand thing hehe our chem teacher didn't even bother they just said "turn it until it went pink" i know different indicator lol.

  • I'm right handed too :)

  • wait so if there is 25 ml in the flask u combine it with 25 ml of the fluid in the buret?

  • I'm a sophomore in high school currently taking chemistry, and these kids look like maybe about 12 or 13... I guess American education really is inferior to that of other countries? Haha...

  • @cuckingfookies Australia dumbshit.

  • Thankyou. I finally understand something :D

  • Thanks a lot please keep it up.

  • is he austrailian? great teacher : )

  • "cause you unko and your tryna break the glass" i cannot believe i wrote that in my chem exam

  • He is really a good teacher, mine (in hong kong) just kept shouting english with wrong grammar and pronunciation ,or cantonese with weird accents, only making me feel really confused! The teacher in this video made a good and clear explanation and demonstration, and i finally understand every single step and what to be careful with.^^

  • excuse me trevor.

  • Nice tutorial - very clear and accurate!

  • thanks, very useful.

  • lol its funny how they got soooo excited by the colour change XD

  • did he use water or NaOH for the "back tritration" ?

  • NaOH, water is not good for use when teaching titrations

  • When was the indicator used during the video? and was it phenophthaline?

  • Check out our other video, titration setup

  • thanks!

  • @psChrystine

No, Phenophthaline gives a pink to clear color change.

  • It's spelt Phenolphthalein

  • He was Using Bromothymol Blue

  • @psChrystine its methyl orange i think because NaOh turns yellow

  • im guessing it's bromythel blue

  • @psChrystine Im guessing Bromythol Blue

  • @psChrystine this was bromothymol blue, hence the change from blue to yellow :)

Phenophaline is colourless in an acid and pink in a base, with a finishing colour of pale pink :)

  • I wish this guy was my teacher...haizzzz

  • wow! nice.

  • 1 mistake the teacher make,he didn't wear proper PPE(lab coat and safety googles) but overall it helps me understand alot....

  • year... if he dropped like ten liter of that weak acid over he's feets he could get hes shoes wet... and nothing more

  • what indicator is that? because my class used phenolphthalein. oh yea and i wonder why do people always put white tile at the bottom of the flasks and beakers too? thanks!

  • The white tile is to help view the colour change. It's also just to make it easier to see the change in colour so you don't add to much acid and over titrate it.

  • This was hugely help! Thanks so much!

  • hes so much better than my teacher

  • Ahhh this guy is a great teacher, makes it really clear, mine sucks. Just moans about how her back hurts and how good the valium the docter gives her is.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • oo we havent talked about backwards titration =o

for us its just, if you go to yellow, you stay yellow ... then start all over.

  • didnt know abt the back titration..pretty cool...but i dont think we r allowed an eye dropper thingy in our exams...it would be really helpful tho!coz i always go a bit over the endpoint...newayz thnx!wish he was our teacher(tho our teacher is pretty cool too) XD

  • never knew about the back titration

  • yea, how come our school's indicator is pink? Is it more cheap to buy pink instead of blue?

  • They're different indicators. Your pink one is most likely Phenolphthalein whereas this one is probably Bromothymol-Blue. I'm not really sure whether one is cheaper or not but sometimes you would use different indicators for different solutions because they have different pH ranges.

  • THANK YOU, back titration helped out ALOT!!

  • Tnx! Tomorrow I have a titration test and this helped me:)

    He's got a cute nose btw:P

  • this guy is awesome

i didnt actually know about this back titration

  • fucking

  • oh cool its blue and green, the one we use in our class is pink...

  • lol matrix

  • I always get from pink to gray to blue/green

  • gah if only there were vids for other modules X( This is awesome !

  • also when your'e doing repeats, do you look at the burette for the vol used instead of the colour change? this is implied but not direcly said. hm

  • This is awesome!

  • Burette should be clamped straight! Now that it's crooked the measurements are not as nearly as accurate!

  • I just did this experiment yesterday. According to my chem teacher, we were really accurate (my anal-retentive classmate did it super precise the first time around, unlike what this chem teacher and my chem teacher were urging). But this chem teacher and my chem teacher both said pretty much the same things.

  • Wow this was awesome. I can tell from this 6 minute demonstration that he's an excellent teacher. Confident, well spoken, clear and concise (also he has a sense of humour :P)

God I wish I had a chemistry teacher like that

  • How can you tell he has a sense of humour?

  • The man's got jokes! :)

  • That was very helpful!

    Your teaching is very good.

  • to answer tuttifruit91, the endpoint is an inaccurate measurement that depends on macro level observation; the point of colour change. Equivalence point is the exact moles by which equilibrium has been reached.

  • i found this video to be very informative, but i have 2 questions...when it first turns yellow, isn't that the equivalence point? And, what is the difference between the equivalence point and the endpoint? Thank you for posting this video! :D

  • For certain indicators, yes yellow means its pH is 7 but others it may not be the same. As for what the difference between equivalence and the endpoint is that it only takes one drop to go from below equivalence to above it. And once you have found that drop that sends the reaction over the equivalence, that is the same drop that will cause it to go to equivalence.

  • lol look at the little kids impressed by colour changes...im sorry bt which teenagers do tht! bt v good demo though. it helped a lot.

  • Excellent demonstration!
