  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time..I was hoping this was the video of the of this performance..but I'm enjoying the audio just fine. These ladies were truly Unsung!!

  • Truly, truly, truly, one of the most under-rated vocal groups ever.

They COULD have been the next Supremes, in that they COULD

have been as popular and successful. And how ironic, too, that

they got one of their first big starts as back-up singers in the mid

1970s for none other than Diana Ross. If you go YouTube and type

in "Diana Ross, Midnight Special, Love Hangover," you will see

Miss Ross and THE GIRLS delivering the goods. Rest in peace,

    Valorie.

  • Aaaah for the decades playing this song in my shows MAKES ME HAPPY!

  • Very complex and beautiful composition. Really nice.

  • Cant get over this song........

  • And to think that folk actually think that the redo of this by Incognito is better.. that's a big no.. They made a good attempt, but the original has all of the character and essence of taking you back that the newer version does not have...

  • Great song done well by Incognito too. Philly Soul !!!!

  • that breakdown is all white keys!!!!! INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

  • great harmonizing by theses ladies

  • The musicians on this track certainly did justice to this tune_ well done fellas amazing!

  • What key is this played in? I love this cut and I want to learn the guitar and bass parts.

  • They still have lovely voices.

  • Wow- what a gem. Thanks for posting this. I don't think I have ever heard anything live from the Jones Girls.

  • what a tune ,totally timelesss sounds as good now as it did the first time i heard it

nice 1 for posting never heard it live b4

  • NEED THIS INSTRO

  • when i tell i was a young queen 10 years ago starting to go to the club and hearing this song i always equate this song and your love keeps taking me higher the gospel house version with my gay past lol

  • I was there!!!! They bought their mum out at the end to sing with them... it was awsome.

  • WOW!

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this. Love this song!

  • Unbelievable great song! Perfect voices in harmony! Both smooth and passionate, tender and touching, melodic and funky!!!

Thank you! Blessings and RIP DEAR Valorie! Miss you very much!

    T from Germany!

  • Still muy estupendo after all these years!!!

    Cheers

    Mr. Chip's

  • God I love this-

  • Bought it when this first came out and loved it ever since....such a cool live clip...just shows they do not need a studio full of tricks ala 'pretty much all the so called Divas today', to make the vocals so incredibly soulful!!!

  • @prbxxx AMEN!

  • Isn't this song magical? I wish they made a real video but I have one in my head already.

  • @GuyMagicFingers

very nice job on the keyboard, esp at the beginning. im sure that had to be difficult to learn. this is such a great song!

  • Man I absolutely love this song!! What beautiful voices from such a lovely trio of sisters! RIP Valorie...

  • this is proof the Jones Girls were better singers than The Emotions, the Emotions suck ass live, in the 70's till now the Emotions sucked. I wish the Jones Girls were bigger, to me they were better singers

  • Crash hot band...thanx...

  • my co worker play this and ive been listening to it ever since and im drivin my girlfriend crazy lol

  • Thanks so much.

  • Dexter Wansel is such a songwriting, God given gift to this planet. this song will always be one of my favs.

  • The funkiest baseline ever!

  • I think this is The Jones Girls' best track. Got a lot of radio play back in the day on New York disco stations WKTU and WBLS.

  • A very gifted group. Great performance. Thank you for sharing this!

  • Truly one of the most under-rated vocal ensembles in music history.

  • Great recording and an interesting use of the video channel, for well researched background - Ian

  • A real surprise to find this on here, and the sound quality is superb, thanks

  • This is incredible...true talent.

  • Thank you so much

  • good vibes

  • Wow their harmony I have always loved until this day...man I am glad my mom schooled me on them over 20 years ago (on good music period)..thank you Mommy.

  • They sound absolutely fabulous!!!!!!!!

I've always loved The Jones Girls, always.

  • I bought this album just for this song.....

I live in Houston,Tx....The summer of 1981 was timeless.

This song represented that time....Just and amazing classic piece.

The instrumental arrangement and vocals were outstanding.

  • Amen to that TheBigDisplay..although I was still a youngin then my mother schooled me on the greats and she still has the Jone Girls LP's minus this one because my cousin thomas stole it and her old Prince LP's...lol. I'm so mad because I want her album collection.

  • this is a good recording, but I like how the snare in the original recording sounds better than the live drums.

  • A timeless and hauntingly beautiful R&B cult classic!

  • THE BEST SONG EVER check me out-LB3

  • difficult tune to play to live, you nailed the keyboard part

  • Thanks :)

  • I search a song who sample this. This is not "faith evans - i don't need" but the singer is a woman too . Somebody can respond to me thanx

  • Valorie died December 2, 2001. May she REST IN PEACE!

  • Bismillah! Special thanks to Brother Luqqman Abdul Haqq) (commonly known as Kenny Gamble of the Gamble & Huff fame and the Sound of Philadelphia) for helping develop and mentoring of these beautiful queens. May Allah be pleased with their contribution and bless the spirit of the wonderful Valorie Jones. Ameen!

  • This just gives me chills everytime! But when I read that last line..I shed a tear for Ms. Valorie. The Jones Girls are one the best to do it!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG WITH A PASSION! It has one of the smoothest, funkiest grooves ever heard on a track. A timeless classic. Lyrically, vocally and musically. "Your eyes won't believe what your mind can conceive..." Thanks for sharing this! Peace*blessings.

  • my pleasure :)

  • @clbzone THANK YOU! Share your passion and love ! Thank you JOnes Girls!

  • @clbzone COULDN'T AGREE MORE!!! ;-)

  • Jones Girls -- FANTASTIC!! Does anyone know all the lyrics to "At Peace With Woman"? Searched Web, came up empty. That's my favorite Jones Girls cut. And what can you say about Dexter Wansel? Truly boss!

  • The Jones Girls get all the well-deserved credit - but without Dexter Wansel's writing and keyboard work, there would be no Nights over Egypt

  • Totally agree kels94,Dexter is without doubt one of the all-time great soul/r&b producers, whose sophisticated,full-bodied arrangements took the Philly sound to a whole new level.'The Sweetest Pain','Life On Mars','The Rock','Love TKO','Take Me In Your Arms Tonight','Children of the Night','When You're Gone'and'Mysteries of the World' are just a few that stay fond in the memory;not to mention Pieces of A Dream's mood-laden 'Warm Weather', 'Time For Love' and 'Fo Fi Fo'.Pure soulful genius!

  • ahhhhhhh nice...... so soul soothing.

  • Audio only!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes. That's what it is and that's what it says!

  • Still kickin' myself for not going to this concert when I had every opportunity to purchase tickets. Guess you don't know what's going to happen in life, which can often seem so cruel. RIP Valerie...the wonderful music you and your sisters blessed us with continues to live on, and make our lives that much more worthwhile!

  • u missed a treat ive never seen them live but "i feel you"wished i could have seen them 4 once live in my life

  • Damn good response Cheek...I was just getting into the club scene back then (had to be about 19/20) but this was a cool track at the clubs in Alexandria LA. Nice response and I love YouTube.

  • You're my homie. I'm from Louisiana also. Winn Parish to be exact but I have a Sister who still lives in Alexandria, or Alexs as we called it...

  • Nice to meet you Betty are you still living in Louisiana.? or have you tranplanted elsewhere like myself.

  • Val died from breast cancer,,

  • Does anyone know how Val died? She was sooo young!

  • Wow. Always loved the track and your video was a really interesting bonus. Brought back memories of hot summer nights back in my clubbing days...

  • When it comes to harmonies, and all around vocal abilities, only the Emotions and maybe En vogue rival these sisters. One of them passed back in '01' (R.I.P Valerie Jones...)

  • WHEN DID THIS SONG COME OUT

  • 1980 or 81

  • Late summer 1981.

  • this song makes me want to cruise down peachtree street on a friday night in ATL. it's so magical.I got a list of my favorites hits.

    street life

    Long live ole skoole!

  • unknownfriend7, I thought I was the only one who thinks about cruising down Peachtree Street listening to the oldies but goodies. I was listening to "You Remind Me," last night.

  • DAMN! You and me could be the best of friends, because each and every song that have listed ARE MY JAMS! You have good taste in old school music!

  • Meet you at the Limelight

  • Must have been one of Darby's session works after Fashion.

  • Thank you so much for posting this song. They were underrated. I love them so much and also what Faith Evans did to this too. RIP Valorie.

  • Man that's some funny shit, sorry about the cassette thou.

  • peace on the post... never heard this live, one of my fav's...

  • , "Nights Over Egypt", (released in 1981, charting at R&B #23 in 1982) is currently a cult classic that receives more airplay on urban radio stations than their previous bigger hits.

  • Great song! Brings back memories!

  • what a tune.just sit back and think of summer.

  • I have always loved this song. You are excellent muscisians. Thank you for the memories. Have to pull out my old LP!

  • This is a great clip, love the song and many others by them. I wish they got the recognition they actualy diserved.

  • This is one of my favourite songs ever. So cool, summery, emotive and soulful....perfection.

  • This is truly buried treasure! I love this joint! RIP Valorie Jones. May I ask, what does Beyonce or light skinned/dark skinned have to do with this??? I don't get it.

  • I'm amazed... Thank you for posting this. Wow.. This song and their music is timeless. Check the lyrics - the TRUTH. If you like this... check Jean Carne - another amazing singer!

  • Nicely done!

  • Being lighter helps that's one of the reason's why Beyonce is so popular. The mass out there(white people) prefer R&B female artist to be light skinned.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! A wonderful tribute to these beautiful women who's music will always be a testament to their incredible voices and talent.

  • beautiful harmonies! Philly has given the world some beautiful music! Much respect!

  • U ARE SOOOO RIGHT! I miss when music involved Talent!

  • They are from Detroit.

  • Philly has beautiful harmony, but those beautiful voices coming out of those beautiful ladies are from the D.

  • OOPS! Sorry folks! I guess philly can't claim EVERYBODY! ha ha My bad! Did they do any work with Philly International Records at all back then? I guess I just won't give up huh! Peace and love!

  • Its all good cause Philly rep too, my moms and her peeps are from Philly. Philly turns out beautiful women and music too yo

  • yes they did work with Philly International Records. They have a good catalog of music

  • Thanks for the response. Peace!

  • The Jones Girls were a better group than Sister Sledge. I think Sister Sledge were more popular because they were lighter skinned. They were beautiufl but The Jones Girls were too and were better singer's.

  • why is everything baout skin color or tone I agree that the Jones Girls were more talented but who Knew we are family would be such a huge hit, that song is played everywhere weddings, family reunion to this day. The Jones girls nver had a hit as big. That's to me is why they are more popular.

  • Valorie Died? She was the quiet one. What happened? :(

  • listening to it still gives you the feeling of soaring over a distant land

  • Hey Guy , check the Ladies' official clip of "2 Win U Back" ... i never knew it even existed !

    watch?v=objGFfbiNnc

  • Wow , GuyMagicFingers ... just wow .

Hearing this live-version for the first time gave me chills and tears at the same time , realising that Miss Valorie is no more among us , but her soul lives on in our spirit forever .

What a GREAT JOB you all accomplished to make that live-event happen in the UK ... HATS OFF !

    Peace ,

    G.

  • Many thanks. It was a great experience and such lovely girls.

  • Thanks for posting this! A rare treat. I loved these women and grew up listening to them. So many great acts that weren't promoted properly.

  • Jones Girls "own" this song - cant get any better. Thanx!

  • one of the jones girls died late last year, good girl group

  • I love me some Jones Girls. These girls are so harmonious and melodious and by that have done background vocals on many of the top artistes album of rthe 70s. I can't wait to get my copy of Shirley Jones 'Always in the mood'' because like all her sisters she can blow. Anyone without a Jones Girls album needs to get one now it will make your day/night.
