  • @thesilverspoonful No you dont because its not a permiate structure! when you build it its known to be a moble home giving you incredible flexaiblity!

  • It's ironic that the ad next to the video is Toll Brothers luxury homes with a picture of a house at LEAST 6,000-7,000 square feet. Anyway, I love this idea of tiny houses. I hope more and more people start getting them and in 20 years or however many everybody will have tiny houses and it will be big houses that are few, rather than the other way around.

  • i think this is a little extreme, but its a good example of what you can do with a little imagination.

  • It doesn't "free up money" because you could build a much bigger straw bale house for under $20,000.

  • Hell....This would house an entire family of Mexicans plus a couple of their cousins.

  • I love it! I always feel very comfortable when I'm camping and living right out of my backpack, so I think I could do this.

  • Interesting. Weren't some of the old American pioneer log cabins for people living alone around this size?

  • It sucks i can make a better tiny house than that and more cheaper, compare how he sale thouse houses

  • @TheFableLookingGlass then do it...competition is the American way. Right now it's been his idea and he's taking his idea out on the road, and selling it. If you, now that you see his, can do a better job...than go for it.

  • @TheFableLookingGlass

The essentials are what cost the most-- square footage is cheap. Which means that you could build a house twice the size of this one which would cost almost the same, provided they had the exact same appliances and wiring. You can't build a house much cheaper than these ones, unless you plan on only making walls, a floor, windows and a roof.

  • Inside a 30’x56’ pole barn I built 8’x30’ living quarters and thought I was living small. After watching this video I realize I over did it.

  • I love the idea, the innovation, and consciousness behind this novel idea and practical use of tiny living. However it sure be a major bummer if some jabroni came up and hooked up your house and took off. Talk about losing everything!

  • This inspires me. Thank you!

  • he could get more space having the entry door swing out

  • Love the concept! Oh but our familiy, friends, and neighbors may think we've completely lost it if we don't live in a normal size home. Oh dear! :)

It's amazing how little of what we have in our homes we actually use. This concept really makes you focus on what you're buying & where's it's going, not to mention the fantastic savings in utilities.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I have thought about living like this but it is not legal to live in a rv unless you are living in a rv park. Even if I buy my own land it is not legal unless I attach the frame to a foundation. I guess the only option is to try to hide it in the woods or something. Any ideas?

  • You don't have to build it on a trailer, so hence you can build it on foundations and its legal for you i guess

  • @cmrent If it violates local laws, tell the local yahoos to stick it -- you just simply "pull up" and move to a "better place" -- i love the concept of these little things. you know the rv companies and their lobbiest are going to attempt to "squash" these things!!

  • Why not just live in an airstream. More space and better design.

  • because who wants to say they live in a trailer? Airstreams are ugly, these are somewhat attractive.

  • @cmrent you're kidding right? a whole dang fleet of these could be purchased for the cost of 1 airstream -- you might as well have said "why not buy a 10k sf house rather than a 2 br condo."

  • CUTE HOUSES.

  • small really is beatiful, gorgeous little houses xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • where is it legal to park these for living in?

  • theoretically any piece of land you own, although in the UK you have to get planning permission to live on land permanently even if your home is mobile, this is to stop gypsies buying land and setting up home

  • why would anyone want to stop gypsies from buying land and selling homes, redshift?

  • It all goes back to the 80's and early 90's, a group of people decided here in the UK that they didn't like living in one place all the time and decided to become nomadic, they were basically hippies who traveled around in converted buses and trucks (lorrys) and when from festival to festival selling craft goods and other handmade stuff, the Gov of the day didn't like it and made new laws to stop them and the rave scene which was going on, basically the Gov decided to screw them.

    Sad but true

  • thanks redshift, so the gypsies are only hippies from the 80's and 90's lol?

  • It's a horrible catch all law that gets used to f**k up a lot of people, much like the new laws in the US

  • Why couldn't we provide these for homeless people?

  • unfortunately, the building prices for the prebuilt homes is rather steep. however, you could find a lot of salvaged parts for much cheaper. it would be nice to see smaller home sizes, even if not to this degree. no single family home NEEDS to be 2000 square feet.

  • if these were mass produced then the "per unit" cost would come right down, another alternative would be to covert shipping containers into shelters for the homeless.

  • I just found this video. This is a good one showing the tiny house out on the road.

    Thanks!

  • lol
