  • Way too much tether out.. :)

  • Yeah pickup tether!

Btw, that tether looks a bit abused....sjeez.

  • British

Conqueror tank, FV214 in use 1955-1966?

Shape of the trurret, Mantlet and sprockets/roadwheels gives it away

    120mm Main gun

Should be recovered for a Museum

  • looks for me like a soviet tank...maybe JS-3 :P

  • JS3's dont have fume extractors on their barrels

  • what kind of tank was it

  • There is or was a gate Guardian at Bovington camp - I had to paint it once - I wonder if it will ever be recovered, any ideas?

  • I'll see if I've got some other video of the tank, I might have some of the turrent area saved. I've got to say it does look like a Conqueror though!

  • Notsure if it is the same underwater dive as yours but this also looks like a conqueror with an rov snagged. look in youtube for

Underwater inspection of a Tank by a Tethered Diver and ROV

If you havent seen it already

  • T54/55 also have a canvas gun mantlet cover and they do not have return rollers on their tracks

  • Definately not a T54 as the do not have those exhaust pipes, look a the conqueror tank on youtube, same vehicle

  • Looks more like an old British Tank the Conqueror, probably used for testing on a LSL, but the tank was too heavy

  • sorry T-54 and it defently is look at the tracks and the front wheel and turret when the ROV turns around on the vid and go on google and look at a T-54 and you can see.

  • its not a tiger sorry its (i think) a russian T-52. the turret is the same...

  • by those tank tracks and the front wheel it looks like a Tiger 1 tank...

  • Very interesting video. What model tank is this? Any information on why it rests at the bottom of a Loch?

  • I was told what sort of tank it is, but I've forgotten. For some reason I think its a russian one, but that doesn't make sense...

It was bought as a job lot by The Underwater Centre for a pittance from the MOD (who then started charging them rent) and shipped from the south east to Scotland on a barge. Theres two of them in the water, plus some other military vehicles.

The reason for doing it was to give the trainee divers something to look at, apparently!
