These past couple of days, I've been researching past clips of Obama's and Mccain's positions and something snapped in my head. Does it matter who said what when? Media has really been abusing the flip flop accusations in this campaign! It makes me think, wouldn't a simpler solution to a candidate's platform be to check his/her voting record or website instead of letting the media tell you?

I have several friends who live overseas. They say that socialized medicine is a failure; case in point, one of their children had bronchitis and had to wait weeks to be seen by a physician. I agree McCain will say anything to get support for his campaign. Apparently his opinion on any issue can change, without giving facts, at any moment. That is one scary personality for a presidential candidate.
Obama, on the other hand, has stayed pretty true to his original statements on major issues. I think his solutions (easily viewable on his website) make sense economically, including his solution for social security.

Recently, I've asked myself this question? What is wrong with 'flip-flopping'? Politicians change their mind according to different situations. Second, people changed from 2004-2008, you can't deny that.
I don't know where this political buzzword/talking point came from but people should stop using it. I think it's just a degrading media tactic by bring up sound bites from the past.

It's part of the reason John Kerry lost to Bush in 2004. The media was constantly accusing him of flip-flops (never mind when Bush massively flip-flopped on foreign policy, education etc.). This time, the media has been focusing on Obama's flip-flops on Public financing and the FISA bill (the second one is defintely warranted, however). Yet, the media is very tight lipped about John McCains flip flops, and he's even worse than Kerry.

I think the problem for you, Young Turk, is that you don't fully understand the social security debate. It's much easier to debate six seconds than have a real policy analysis. Why doesn't anyone give any consideration to the prospect that these guys are mind controlled like the Manchurian Candidate. I'd rather pay more taxes to have more stability. We have a small family business, and have had to shop around every 2 years for the most competitive plan...Some really awful for some of others, at other times fairly good coverage...
Always having to do paperwork to move the records around, I'd rather pay more to have more stability and peace of mind. the most socialized and efficient private institution is Kaiser, you can definitely see how they save money & pocket the rest.

I have several friends who live overseas. They say that socialized medicine is a failure; case in point, one of their children had bronchitis and had to wait weeks to be seen by a physician. I tend to believe what they say because they live there--you don't. As a Cuban immigrant, I am highly suspicious of anything that sounds socialistic. This may seem trivial to you, but it is definitely troublesome for me. I respect your opinion, but any opinion must be backed up with facts.

As I said, I don't like socialized medicine either. But you seem to ignore the fact that McCain is pushing to have a war with Iran and indefinite presence in Iraq. He also voted against a bill calling for equal wages for men and women, wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade and make Bush's tax cuts permanent - so we become even more in debt to China.
I don't like Obama (or any politician, for that matter), but it just seems to me like he's the lesser of two evils in this scenario.
