wut does the hold switch do? cause i got first generation nano and wen i click the hold button, it doesnt do anything. idk if the ipod is broken but it still turns off after a while of not using it and it still plays my music. but im not sure wut the hold button does.

Awh! this was the one I lost and it was the best nano apple has created IMO, now the ones they have out just doesn't compare, oh well I got the iPod Touch and it's a device that i can't ever lose because of the beacon.

What does the hold switch do?

@COOLDUDE7531642 The hold switch temporarily disables the click wheel and all buttons until you click it back. so you would use it when you jog, exercise or just plain moving around and the song wont change if you accidentally bump one of the buttons. Its pretty handy, I use it all the time.

@multiplekills $40 I think, and it was new and still sealed. Unfortunately, the battery was dead so I had to send it to Apple for warranty work (yep, still had warranty on a 3 year old iPod).

@Nikofloyd1999 It wasn't charged, actually the battery was dead. I had to return this to Apple for a replacement ;). I didn't mention that in this video, but that's why you only see it on when it's connected to the Mac.

This was my first iPod. When I got it on 1/3/2008, I intended on only using it for music. But, I got hooked on videos and since then I've got a 120GB iPod Classic and a 2GB 3rd generation iPod Shuffle. I now use Switcheasy cases for all of them.

I bought a case for it, but just a simple clear crystal case. I still only use my iPhone for music and I don't really consume video on anything but my Home Theater or iMac.

Just be aware that if you want to load it up with a bit of everything, music is not a problem. But TV shows are what take up the space while music videos and podcasts are like nothing for this unit. That's why I got the Classic. Now that I think about it, the 3rd generation Nano was nothing but a small Classic. What problem did you have with this iPod that you had to send it back for a replacement?

@RAILTECHCHASER I'm not sure, but the battery couldn't hold a charge at all. Apple is amazing, they honored they warranty on a 3 year old iPod after I submitted them an invoice from the Amazon reseller.

@copop0123 Amazon marketplace is probably your best option, besides ebay. Overstock also has them, but usually in refurbished condition.

The new ones have the plastic ends because they are machined out of a single piece of aluminum, am I correct?

@johnmonk66 Correct, the 4th and 5th gen nanos feature a unibody design so the electronics are slide into the aluminum sleeve and capped off at either end.
