Great explanation. One thing I use to add when explaining this is how to figure out which of those 3 variants is which.. it's like this: If you want to play, say, a G diminished, just select the variant where a G note is one of those 4 strings.
I go to Kona a lot. Did you meet Ponchman at Just Ukes? A lot of Uke stuff goes on in Kona. Can you tell us some of the things you did,Uke wise, in Kona? I will be going back there in Feb.
As someone who's starting to study music a bit more seriously after years of tinkering, that's incredible useful (and interesting) to me - thanks so much!
As for the lack of moustache, two things:
a) it's your face and I'm sure we'll get used to the new version!
b) take a look at the song 'Moustache' by Sparks on youtube, if you've not seen it before - it's a minor classic!
Mahalo!!! My ukulele group - PUKA 'Ukulele and Kanikapila Association - is playing and singing some of those wonderful old songs and I've been struggling with these exact chords... no more!!! You are a gift to my ukulele universe = )
Good lesson. I understand the diminished chord thing much better now.

Glad you clarified the dim versus dim7. Most books name it wrong.

What about C2, Is that just Cadd9? I haven't found a straight answer...
projectbronco 4 months ago
@projectbronco The C major triad is 1-3-5 (C-E-G). C2 is 1-2-3-5 (C-D-E-G) and Cadd9 is 1-3-5-9 (C-E-G-D). I play it the same on the ukulele.

@imnewwave Thank you so much, that is a big help!

@imnewwave An even better Cadd9 = 5435, particularly on a low-g tuned ukulele
