The leading actor who is dancing with miss Jamie Lee died of aids/hiv. Was he gay or did he get a bad blood transfusion ? What is the real story? Im a homo myself and Id think he would dance a little better than that. He looks like he is is struggling. Just an observation! Then again..not all homo's can dance.
I was howling with laughter at this scene the first time I watched this movie. I know it's a classic, but man it's funny! Thought Jamie Lee's date was going to give himself whiplash from 1:50 - 1:56.
Jamie Lee rocked this one - how awesome - If I were Wendy I would have been extremely jealous - Rock it out for Halloween 2011 Jamie - For me this never gets old. Eric in Burton Michigan USA.
This is such an upbeat and happy song. Goes great with this happy and family friendly movie about a group of kids having fun on prom night and not getting brutally killed.
This movie has all of the elements of the popular movies of its times...a combination of "Saturday Night Fever" "Halloween" and "Carrie" ..and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Jamie Lee stole the show - she really knows how to dance - so come on Jamie we saw you on DWTS last season. I think you should be on Dancing With The Stars. You could kick some royal Prom Bootie :)
@cheapcape Copyrights don't expire unless the work in question is REALLY old -- far older than 1980. So technically yes, it IS illegal because somebody still owns the copyrights to these songs and may, in the future, choose to release them again on a CD. But it's more accepted to share songs that are currently unavailable.
@astrofiasco - You are right! In fact, I read somewhere (an interview with the actor?) that he lied about his ability to dance when he got the job, and had to learn the day they shot the scene.
Oddly enough, he was gay in real life. Id would think he would at least know how to have some rythym. Im a homo myself but jeez.. Sadly, he died sadly of AIDS from what I read in blogs.
@astrofiasco Actually, I'm reading a book that was recently published called Jamie Lee Curtis: Scream Queen. It covers the making of Prom Night and has an interview with a close friend of the actor Casey Stevens. He claims that Casey was NOT gay, but it is unknown how he contracted AIDS. I suppose he could have had a gay tryst that went horribly wrong. Any way you look at it, it's sad.
@astrofiasco disco was designed for people who didnt know how to dance. In fact, very few people know how to dance. Nowadays your avarage "dance" club just has people grinding on each other and / or drinking some drink and kind of bouncing around. Very few people know how to dance. I give the actiors in Prom night respect because at least they got some lessons and made some passable attempts.
@timmenewman The one playing when Wendy and the gang walk in is "Love Me Till I Die"; the one from the epic dance scene is "Prom Night (Part 2)". Interestingly, the former song is not the album mix [where the singer says "Love Me/Oh baby, please don't go].
I just love the acoustics of the music at the prom! Everything is thumping.
This is a really good quality video! Does anyone else notice the heavy thumping in the song from 2:17 to 2:40? Feels like I'm there... (^_^)
I wish I had a prom at this time; I wasn't even born until a year after this movie. I don't think the event has the same feeling now as it did back then!
CABIN FEVER 2:: Spring Fever this song is in it too!!! It says it's called TONIGHT IT'S PROM NIGHT, ALL NIGHT by PAUL ZAZA & CARL ZITTRER I can't find it anywhere though!!!!!!
My love for this scene knows no bounds. Reeks of pure awesome. Second only to the fantastic chase/fight sequence with Wendy - A most AWESOME Queen Bee Bitch.
*SIGH* If only more slasher films had a disco dance sequence.
The Actor who played Nick did not know how to dance, so he took dance lessons. The Director was unaware, as The Actor landed the role as Nick, because he Said he could dance. :]
All the problems we have now started to form in this decade. Most of the problems we have today are because people from the 70's n 80's are fighting to much. Which is why we kids today can't enjoy our childhood.
Hey, Jessluvsjonas, I totally agree with you that the remake totally missed the mark. It could have really been a great movie if they had stuck to many of the original elements of the 1980 film. And the music is just enthralling in the original. I guess it's just too bad that the films both have the same name, but at least the new one sort of created a revival of interest in the original PROM NIGHT! :-)
I want this song! I think this version of prom night is better than the 2008 version dont yall think? too bad they didnt follow up with a update story in prom night 2 about kim and nick
Jamie Lee had some cool dance moves - she could really boogie - ah the good ole days - I would love to go back to 1980 - I would have been 10 years old. Jamie still rocks - she looks great in True Lies also but she really should color her hair now as it is gray in the Activia yogurt commercial.
I loved this movie, scared me when I was a kid especially the opening scenes. The dancing is hysterical. I bet the crew laughed their asses off behind the scenes. Isn't the Dad, the cop from Naked Gun?
Why?It just goes to show that Jamie Lee is a real woman who happens to not conform to the hollywood standards of beauty, she,s aging the way anyone should instead of bleaching her hair and botoxing up her face, only to look like a plastic clown face she rather age gracefully and real.Mature female celebs such as Angela Bassett,Diane Keaton,Sigourney Weaver ,Meryl Streep are a perfect example and they all still look great.
too bad someone did a remake. i hate remakes. my grandmother has a bunch of old movies that have been or is going to be remaked. no offense but i think film makers don't have any great ideas for new coming movies. they're just all remakes. why remake a movie that's old and that someone owns. it's pointless. it's the same with musicians today also. nothing but remakes or remixes. they can't make up their own and be original.
The remake of Prom Night is "new"; in this original, the escaped serial killer is a red herring. In the remake, the serial killer is the killer. Unfortunately, the remake sucks hardcore, let's never mention it again.
As for music; you're listening to the wrong genre. Rock is always original, unless they pay tribute by covering someone else. Remixes are all techno and Rap, and that music sucks anyways. Go buy a NIN album.
The songs in the movie were composed by Paul Zaza using session musicians. The soundtrack was only released in Japan with less than 2,000 copies pressed. Needless to say it would be VERY difficult to find! I have a DJ friend in NYC and when he plays this song the crowd goes nuts!
Its not ABBA, there's no way a low budget 1980horror film from Canada could afford them, I'm a Canuck I should know! Love this scene and music! Ah, Jamie Lee Curtis: fighting masked lunatics or disco dancing is there nothing she can't do? She looks so hot here. She rules! I'll bet this scene is better than anything in the remake. Thanks for posting!
This song blows me away. I know that I can always trust the Hollywood editors and executives of the late seventies to filter out a sound that embodies a style, or time period, with incredible accuraccy. Oddly, however, the song itself would probably be dismissed as derivative and uninspiring movie music. Rather, I would proport that "Prom Night" captured the "sound on the streets" & in the average disco clubs during the months in which it was written and produced in '79. Excellent history!
best dance sequnce in history mann.. Jamie lee curtis rocked and still do. Orignal scream queen. That girl can dance! (no one dances like that i may add)

My favorite horror slasher film of the early 80's...1980 to be exact! Jamie Lee was in rare form and that cheap dance is the campiest piece of trash...I love it. It always makes me smile and reminds me of how bad our high school dances were...
How said that the actor who played Nick, Jamie Lee's boyfriend, died of AIDS.
What's great about this scene is that right after the dance number is when the killer starts killing everyone. I guess this is what put him over the edge lol.
Im also surprised that NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has not parodied this famous dance scene on Youtube!!

This is easily the best part of this "film". I thought I'd end up killing someone before the movie finally ended.

What's great about this scene is that right after the dance number is when the killer starts killing everyone. I guess this is what put him over the edge lol.
