gorgeous horse. i just got a paint gelding and his lope is too fast to place in the western pleasure classes. do you have any advice on how to get him to lope slower?

Great ride...I just don't like the western pleasure lopes because it seems to me if you want to go that slow you should be walking (Same can be said of english collected canters). But from what I know about western pleasure that is a GREAT ride!

Love this mare. She's my inspiration, and a beautiful mover. She reminds me of my horse in A LOT of ways, and I hope someday I can get her to perform as wonderfully as Ona Good Impulse. :]

I enjoy and respect Western Pleasure riding, but who honestly thinks that "lope" looks good??!!! I will bet you a million dollars there isn't a wild horse loping like that, unless it's injured lol.

@puma417lnjh Dude, that lope on that mare is about as good as it gets. A fluid collected and consistent way that does not look broken down...... she deserved her win. One thing I did notice on the lap around is that the mare does drag her back hind foot on the right side.....either it was falling asleep on her, or she was being plain lazy. But just about as nice as it can get. And don't let anyone fool you, that horse is an athlete. Much harder to do that then "run" through the pasture.

@puma417lnjh Who honestly thinks there's a wild horse racking like a 5 gaited saddlebred, or pacing like a standardbred - or even jumping 6' like a grand prix horse! This this is VERY much natural and comfortable for a WP bred QH just like high-stepping is innately natural to a saddlebred. This isn't a wild horse, and I think his lope looks lovely! He looks comfortable and has a nice, rhythmic 3 beat gait and most of all, he looks like a PLEASURE to ride! :)

I just have to say that I admire your mare. I have watched hundreds of western pleasure horses of all ages go around and your mare is what I strive for in a western pleasure horse. She is so soft, fluid, and consistent. She looks like a pleasure to ride. I hope someday to ride a great one like her. By the way did you show her again at the worlds this year? If so how did you do?

Is there any good supplements you put your performance horses on?? I have a 3yr old and she is going to be going back into training over this winter and she sometimes gets easily distracted I want something that helps with concentration and maintains her while she is being worked harder when she is at the trainers. Your horse just looks so calm and collected like she loves her job. Awesome ride thats my dream one day :)

Because to me, I'm an English Rider, and now both and I'm just now starting to do the Western Western Jog and Lope, anyway, it looks like her Lope is way better Counter-Clockwise. Hello Betsey Mae, the answer to your question is I do not know. Some days I think she is better to the left and some days she is better to the right. I am at the Select World Show right now and will show Monday and Tuesday if I make the finals. I hope to meet you someday. I so admire the English Riders and wish I could do it. I will be at the Congress. Are you going?

@Distanzpony its not lame. thats a western pleasure horse's gait. and yes the horse is trained like this, it doesnt happen in one day. The horse isn't in any pain what so ever. A horse is more likely to be in pain jumping or turning barrels. not on the flat going this slow. I am not trying to be mean if I am coming off mean too.
