@magicamoon Note: Bears are excellent climbers, your suspension lines will need to be a good distance to avoid bear swiping of you and made of a material that can withstand chewing/clawing and 200kg(estimate) swiping force perhaps more if it puts body weight on - I think they can weigh somewhere in the vicinity of 160kg(black grizzly - brown bears can weigh near 700kg so you do the math).
@borys66 unless you've got food in there with you, or you smeared it all over yourself, a bear is very unlikely to try to eat/attack you while you're in a tent/hammock. most people don't understand that most bear attacks occur either because the human frightened it or if they are not wisely securing their food. chill guys. just respect your surroundings and be careful.
To address a few other concerns, Yes if you do not tie your lashing taught and tight it will sag over night. There is a video on the site that shows how to tie the lashings. Also I used a coleman pad in the bottom of my hammock and a coleman sleeping bag to prevent getting cold. With layered clothing (hooded sweatshirt) I stayed comfortable in mid 20's weather. The next morning when I got up everything was iced over and I was suprisingly still warm.
MunkeySpaz, the velcro has lasted me for awhile with no sign of any problems. Once you have brought your legs up through the entrance the fly comes together and the velcro is together. You can easily reinforce the grip of the velcro by pushing it together with your hands. The velcro fly is a good seal and the mesh on the top is so fine that a bug would have to be extremely small to get in. Overall its much more bug proof than any tent I have used.
Im curious to know how well that velcro on the bottom has lasted? Also, how well does it close up once your in it? Does it prevent bugs and insects from getitng in there?
Yes rainfly works, a "deluxe" hex rainfly is available. You have to get inventive to keep warm on cold nights though. I've heard of people using different techniques to insulate against cold air.
I want to set one of these way up in the tree so you actually have to climb the tree to sleep in it. It would feel cool to be up with the birds not the bears.
Just to say I have one of these too and a very bad back. It is the closest to pain free I can be whilst lying down. £100 hammock is way better than a £1200 memory foam delux mattress!!
I'm tempted by these hammocks, but I dunno. I have a seriously bad back from an accident, and though they say you can lay almost flat, it still looks to me like it sags and I'd have severe back pains in the morning. I haven't seen any photos or video that show this "almost flat" thing they talk about.
How about upper back? I can't have my head at much of an angle from my back at all or else I have problems... not only do I have a bad lower back, but also upper between my shoulder blades, etc.
I actually sleep on the floor (with cushion) because I need a firm flat surface.
I just wish I could get a "test drive" of one of these.
I also have meniere's disease, a vestibular disorder, and other vertigo from a head injury (same accident) so maybe this is a bad idea anyway - seasickness.
I too have Meniers disease, though its not terrible, but I didnt have any problems with this hammock. I pulled the elastic cords very tight before staking down, this prevent any movement when adjusting in the hammock or from weather.
@ManlyBannister I too have a bad back and spent most of my camping trips complaining about how much pain I was in. Since switching to my Hennessy I've had no such problems. Even if a hard day's canoeing throws out my back I know a night in the hammock will restore it to proper condition.
Nice video. I just bought mine this Christmas. How did you tie down your fly tarp? Are you using tent stakes?

forget about bears - they won't bother you. Cats though, still like to play - even the big ones and you'd look like a sack lunch hahahaha

You have to hang them higher, so the bears won't catch you when you sleep ;D
sirpc2 1 year ago
@sirpc2 But if to hang the hammock higher to avoid the bears, how to be able to get inside the hammock then? Is there a ladder or something?

u must have a bigger rainfly to stop wind, and a wind resistant candle lamp burning under the hammock

Now that's luxury hammocking. That would be perfect for blackfly season in Ontario!

HH's are great, you should hang it from trees that are closer together, the less rope you use, the less it will sag.

You lay in it kind of sideways (on an angle) and this is how you lie flat.
I too have a BAD lower back and need to lay flat. I have found this a great way to enjoy nature, while keeping virtually pain free.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask...

If you wanted to test drive it you could always just order one and try it out. If it doesn't work for you...return it.
The hammock does sway a bit with the wind and your body movement, so that could exacerbate your vertigo.
jtcavers 3 years ago
Thanks, I wasn't sure if they allowed returns.

Hammock is sagging over time. To avoid that use a Hitchcraft Monster tie that gives you split second adjustability and no need of any knots. )
