  • Stepping into that knife attack is a horrible idea. His elbow is still free to bend and stab you from behind. I also fail to see how you expect to remove the knife with one hand at such an awkward angle.

  • @AntiCitizenX ANYTHING you do is a horrible idea. There is NO good solution to this problem. You WILL get cut or stabbed. You can choose to control the arm by stepping in reducing his ability to cut/stab you. OR, you can TRY to create distance & take several full blown cuts/stabs. I prefer the reduced method. Getting your gun out before he cuts/stabs you is an illusion that instructors teach. It's NOT going to happen. People don't understand this simple technique & the power of the strike.

  • Because I HAVE to go slow due to the power of the strike to the THROAT people doubt this technique. If I go fast my partner will not be around. The strike is what makes this work. Picking up on the rituals of attack helps this technique to work. But, most people don't know the rituals of attack. This is ONE solution to the problem.

I understand that knife defenses are tricky, but you literally stepped your entire torso right into the attack. You then failed to control the knife in any serious capacity. His wrist and elbow are still free to move and shove the blade into your back. I don't care how tough the situation may be. If that blade touches you, then your technique is bogus and you need to revise it. For example, why not try a simple outside defense?

  • @AntiCitizenX How did I fail to control his arm? Obviously you don't understand the technique. Again, you WILL get cut. Thinking otherwise is not realistic. Any technique that claims you won't get cut, stabbed, or shot is bogus. This is a HUGE problem in the martial arts and firearms training community. AND for those who don't train realistically or at all. The difference between someone who knows what they are doing and thinks they know, is facing the fact that you WILL get injured in some way.

"How did I fail to control his arm?"

You have good control of his arm, but it does not look to me like you have control of the wrist or elbow. That's my concern.

"Again, you WILL get cut. Thinking otherwise is not realistic."

I do not disagree, but that does not give you free license to employ any old technique you like. There are still drills and exercises that will tell you if you are getting stabbed or not, and you should at least try to minimize the odds.

Please understand I do not intend to be some kind of know-it-all. I just have a huge objection with throwing my whole torso into the direction of the sharp, pointy thing.

  • @AntiCitizenX Like I said, it is ONE option. I always carefully consider my options. What if it is THE only way you can move besides just standing there? It's better to circumvent his range of motion by moving into him and controlling that arm. Again, IF you get the strike half way right, it should take the fight out of him. Then you can get away. There is NO technique that is going to allow you to escape without injury.

  • what if he goes for your neck or chest, or does a slash?

  • Yes. His alias is Critter.

  • is the attacker in this video is his nic name critter?
