This is "Takamba" music of the Songhai people. this is not tuareg/tamashek or amazigh. Tuaregs are not the only ppl who wear veils! most tribes in the Sahel do.
ppl seem to confuse, Tuaregs, fFulanis, Tebous, Songhais, Hausas, Moors etc. and cant tell them apart, everything in a veil ISN'T Tuareg.
Touareg are Amazigh. But because they have had many of the Negro slaves has become black Altargip speak the language and have the same habits as well as his masters Althoarq. Althoarq white skin. They Amazighs
I'm not sure the women dancing in the video are of the same group as the women who are singing and playing. They may belong to two different groups. There are both Fulani and Tuareg and other groups in the video.
The dance is almost surreal. Out of all places, in midst of a vast desert, black penguins, clad in all-white, using their "flying skills" to swim deep into the ocean. And the music of Mali, in its uncluttered simplicity and emotional depth, is as old as Africa itself. I hope Mali would resist both the call of the religious ascetic and the modern pedantic so that it would keep on delighting our ears with its amazing music.
u think the singer just spken a tigrinia language while the dancer were dancing she said like (intai min tifalis) in the minute 3:36 i am just curious?!!
It's not tigrinya, I believe its tamashek/tamazig or surakha kan (language of the tuaregs) like we say in the south of the country :), anyway I am not surprised that my friends from the Horn find similarities with this culture. Myself, I call Abyssinians (eritrea, ethiopia, somalia) Surakhas of the east lol
Most people in this region follow Islam. Like in my country (Senegal), neighbouring Mali, Niger, Mauritania, Algeria, Northern Nigeria, Northern west africa in general, most people are Muslim. About 99% of the population are muslim.
@abdoulhady - Peul men often wear the green headdresses in mali. Am I correct?!.

You have it all backwards. Don't confuse language and pre-existing culture.

Efectivament la música, de Tartit, no es correspon amb la dansa.
Its true, the music is from Tartit and not from the players.
