  • Love this song! I even have my own verse to add:

    America

    Is a system of government

    Designed by geniuses

To be run by C students

  • @CajunGypsy you sir, are a fucking genius. in the case of sarah palin.....f+ students.

  • 29 people voted Republican

  • A conspiracy of geniuses, in sweatstained waistcoats, and powdered wigs. Greatest line ever.

  • @redhawk239 what you said... (and I never even LIVED in the USA)

  • Perfect for the 4th of July. Perfect for any day. Thanks, Roy.

  • It may not rhyme, but this is def. one of his best songs.

  • You go Zimmerman, thank you.

  • amazing fantasy Volume 1 chapter 15: (AF V:1, 15) "with great power comes great resposibility"

  • Roy Zimmerman, you are a hero.

  • Eh, the average liberal or conservative, even the more hardline ones, always seem to be better than their politician counterparts, wouldn't you agree?

  • And it was the founding fathers that said democracy is one of the worst self destructive forms of government that invites tyranny of the majority; that’s why they gave you a constitutional republic.

  • "AMERICA FUCK YEAH" has nothing on Roy Zimmerman

  • Looks like Chandlers run off with Phoebe's guitar agian.

  • @Brooklyn7071 HA!!

  • America is the devil in a three piece suit running in a election for a office! I love this song. it gives me a sense of hope for me and my wife and kids.

  • Na, da freu ich mich doch einige meiner Vorurteile gerade verloren zu haben !

  • I'm British and my opinion of America has been rehabilitated by people like Zimmerman and Cenki Uygur

  • wonderful!

  • "America is a compassionate conservative...and a gay republican...and a vegetarian vampire..." LOL

  • gay

  • "America is a Japanese fiddler in Branson, Missouri, doing Louis Armstrong." That's my country, and I like it that way! Great show in San Diego last Sunday, Roy. Many thanks for your enthusiasm and positive attitude, especially when dealing with pickup cables that sounded like a brush on a snare drum.

  • 27 george bush's nephews got offended with the humor in this song.

  • If you hate America so much ( non-Americans ), think back to the 40's. Yeah your fucking welcome! With out us you would be under Nazi control. No Blacks, No Jew, No Atheist, none of these thing would be alive today. With out America people like this asshole wouldn't be alive. He would be killed by the state or used as forced labor. America is not perfect, but it beat the rest of the world by far!

  • @BigDirtyBasterd so because of something great america done 70 years ago it cant be anything but perfect now? grow up the US is failing, its $ is becoming more and more worthless and take a look at any global statistic the only ones the US tops now days is military spending... and even then its on poor quality goods made by the company's owned by the same people who run half the country damn shame too, with the reriseing of bullshit religion we need the one bastion of free speech

  • @Exiledloser 1.) I never said it was perfect, you assumed such. 2.) Telling people to grow up just makes you look like a child. 3.) America is NOT failing. We still have our Top ratings, and Oil is still traded in American money. This means were stable. 4.) The reason American money is losing some value is because of Liberal fucks borrowing and spending. 5.) Company's go over seas because of unions trying to suck all profit from the Company.

  • @BigDirtyBasterd It is not so stable. We need to invade Iran. Remember, Iran has repeatedly urged OPEC members to shift sales away from USD

  • Love how this song moves seamlessly towards a patriot anthem. It just might work...

  • No offence, but you never see the crowd, uhm is he just using soundbord to the laughs?

  • @SirNorwayDaniel now aren't you a smart cookie

  • One of the best protest singers of the last 30 years.

  • noone understands america,

    mainly americans dont either-

funny how everyone has an opinion

on somewhere theyve never been to

  • @tsurumichan

    I've been to America thrice.

My opinion on Americans themselves is a bit mixed. Their work ethic is weird because it favours their boss more then it favours themselves and their proud of that for some reason. Although the most negative trait I feel is that compared to my own they seem dishonest. They pretend to be nicer then they are. On the positive side they ARE a bit more hospitable, although I've also seen that switch when it became inconvient.

Their gov't is pure evil tho.

  • @Shavarnarak

I mean I used to think there was some hope with the democrats and I actually still kind like Clinton. But even so, it's quite clear America's leadership has been in the pocket of it's corporate elite for over a century if not for most of the country's run. And their largely a great negative force in the world. Just ask any country in South America. (or the Mid East.) And currently a source of idea's on how to run a country I'd rather NOT see pop up in Europe.

  • @Shavarnarak

There's also that stupid flag-heiling thing. Actually the American right is to me way to similar to the nazi's they'll loudly claim to have fought. Illegal invasions? They support it. Nationalistic bigotry? Check. Overt religion? Check (And yes the nazi's did this.) Torture? You betcha!

They can't get away with genocide, but just today another fucking US righty said there where good reasons sometimes for genocide.

So I HATE the US right. Pure evil they are.

  • @Shavarnarak hey dont look at me i didnt ask to be born here GO BRITAIN

  • @Shavarnarak I'm American and I agree. Our government lets big business get away with perpetuating oppressive social class systems, abusing foriegn laborers and immigrants, and a litany of other crimes that should be punished. Of course, it could be worse, and I'd rather live here than in some other countries, but just because the thief is not as evil as the rapist does not mean he should be excused.

  • @handmiadenofgod Does mean the rapist should be executed tho heh... other then that i agree, one sure way america can get out of the sink its in is war, full scale war they always did that well, not this gorilla warfare stuff i mean full on war, nuke a few middle eastern country's (i say mid east mainly because, lacking the nukes they cant retaliate, and lack real allies thus easy targets... ones people in the west, see:me wont miss much), remind the rest of the world why it used to be feared.

  • @Shavarnarak Our country is still fucked up, it's just that most of us have this hickish, "all hail Big Brother!" Mentality that will not allow us to admit it. Hell, I don't even say the pledge in the morning at school, that's how sick my country makes me.

  • @Shavarnarak I live in America and it sucks. Our own government hates us, They just want to line there pockets at the citizens cost. We have to do what ever it takes to keep a job, Which means it favors the boss more than it favors ourselves. We are just happy to have a job! Maybe it is not that way where you live. But being somewhere a couple of times and living there is a different experience. We are spiraling into poverty, So its better to be a tourist than a resident.

  • The one thing I love about America is that we, as a people, are a contradiction. Other countries seem to see only the radicals and the idiots, not the majority who believe in basic human rights and try to make the country work out for the best. People like Roy try and bring those people to light and get them out of the shadow of all the crazies.

  • @HeSheXie The thing is, thats what the medias want us all to think. You should just see how often these shows and documentaries come on nrk here in norway. They want us all to think americans are crazy, and the reason we see them as crazy is because that is more entertaining and attracts more viewers. not to mention its in english so its understandable. Its a sad time to be an american, but no matter what the world wants you to look like.. you should all really be proud of your country.

  • I wonder whether the 25 people who don't like 'America' believe they love America ;)

  • "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious."

    -- Oscar Wilde

    "Our true nationality is mankind."

    -- H.G. Wells

Where you were born is irrelevant to your intelligence, character or beliefs. If you are pro-American people or anti-American people you are ignorant either way. Hate the countries policies not the people.

  • In learning how to lead a group therapy session, which I'm technically qualified to do, we were taught how to keep one guy from monopolizing the conversation; but other than learning that it's a great way to get 12 people to pay $75 each for 1 hour of your time compared to having 1 person pay $125 for an hour of your time, I still don't understand the appeal of group therapy.

  • @fitzy545 How so?

  • This song got mentioned by TheAmazingAtheist :D

  • Kudos Roy! Nicely done.

  • Hi Roy,

I've just discovered you on youtube..really like your songs.

I think "to be a liberal" is my favourite.

What is your guitar make & model? it's got a lovely crisp rich tone.

    Thanks for your musical offerings

  • OoOooBBbbaaaAAAAmmmMAAAAAaaa.... this just might work

  • @PoliticKills Just because you aren't religious, that doesn't mean you have to insult people based on their beliefs. That is just disrespectful and rude. And believe me, you aren't making religious people look stupid. You are making yourself look stupid.

  • @Candypirate11 I agree...But "PoliticKills" doesn't seem to understand...

  • you are an ignorant ugly litte man

  • you are an ignorant ugly litte man

  • God bless the Catholics and Presbyterians and Baptists and Methodists and Quakers and Mormons and Unitarians and Jews and Muslims and Hindus and Buddhists and Sikhs and Jains, but ...

    God fuck the atheists!

  • @darkmiles22

    why's that?

what happened to the "god loves everyone"?

did he change his policy? Again?

from "YOU SHOULD SUFFEROTHERFUCKER" to "it's ok, as long as you both regret what fuckups you do and believe in me, then you won't suffer forever" and then this time to "I love everyone! - EXCEPT ATHEISTS! THEY SHOULD ALL BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN FOR BELIEVING THEIR STUPID LOGIC SYSTEM"?

    sriously, wtf?

  • @TheAnonymousSeeker I was trying to raise people's consciousness with a pointed joke. The point being that "God bless" can be interpreted benignly by just about anyone but atheists. To me, "God bless" sounds a lot like "#%@$ you!"

  • @TheAnonymousSeeker

Are you really believing in God. Come on.

Live in the 21 century please. :) Amish!

I sh*t on God every day. Why doesn't he punish me? If he existed he did it.

  • @PoliticKills You are punishing yourself silly...

  • @TheMasterAchim

    Huh? nah!

  • I just heard that moth that buzzed in time with the song. It even stopped at "I've got a meeting."

  • Wish the audio was better... just sayin...

  • so so true...

  • I don't understand. Is he talking about all of America or just the US?

  • @Gabumon54321 just the US, everyone else in N&S Amarica is proud to be part of their own country, and don't declared themselves the owners of continents.

  • @ChasehaWing yeah it's scary that US gov. is like the new nazis, except even more hypocritical seeing as there's no real originating race, nationality or even a coherent belief system. It's all about money, power and "I live here", anyone and everyone else is my enemy, slave, rival and or competition.

  • @takenflame Dark way to see it but plausible; except they haven't tried to use Genocide on whole civilizations yet (unless we count the 1st nations)

  • @ChasehaWing well then just compare Avatar, to the War on Terror a.k.a. the osama search, which ended up being against the taliban, then insurgents, then saddam. Just about any civilization with something they wanted, all they needed was a loosely defined pretext to go and bomb the hell outta innocent people. Besides, genocide is something that was routine among earlier civilizations in history, all that has changed is that more people today complain about it. Still happens with technicalities.

  • I still can't get over how amazingly good this song is. It is truly Zimmerman's greatest work. A work of genius. I love it!

  • americans are so annoying. Socialism ftw!

  • @lamestguyintown

not really my friend! I agree with the america statement but hey, Socialism do not work. accept it

  • Fantastic! Please keep 'em coming!

  • Bro, you were channeling Tom Lehrer, here. I could hear it in your voice.

  • Good vid

  • I'd be interested to hear Zimmy's opinion on dissent in light of Tea Parties. The same freedom-loving dissenters who foisted Barry Hussein on the nation seemed to have lost their passion for the subject now that the dissent is aimed toward their guy.

  • @silvi01977 He has a new cd called "Real American" that speaks to that. He has one video from that cd on youtube. "Socialist." It isn't the one to speak specifically to your question, but you should watch it all the same.

  • @silvi01977 We never said you couldn't critisize the disenterss but shit the fasc.., I mean Republicans were pretty much calling liberals fifth column durring the reign of king George. How would you like your patriotism questioned & to be accused of siding with our enemies, because you didn't support your government when it was fucking over your country? I don't mind be called an idiot, a communist, socialist, fascist or even all four at once, but damn it I draw the line at being called traitor.

  • @Fuctmentality Have you been in a coma for the last 18 months?! If you know your history, the current charlatan has more in common with a Mussolini than the last guy. The desire of national socialists is to eradicate borders and have one centralized block of power... there's no exception with the `progressive` (read communist) wing of the Democratic Party. With few exceptions the country is being run by foreign entities so the term `traitor` unfortunately fits.

  • @silvi01977 So batshit means that people are calling the tea baggers 5th column, how? Or are you implying that batshit so how justifies calling everyone who spoke out against you traitor, or are you stating calling people who show a degree of idiacy & rascism, itdiots & racists is just as bad as calling people who speak out against you traitors? We're allways going to have one side criticizing the other, but that doen't justify falling for terror management theory.

  • Very good words Roy!!

  • This guy is the man

  • "Ask not, what your country can do for you, ASK, what you can do for your country".... that is one is one of THE biggest crocks of shit I have EVER heard! If *I* am AMERICA, as in "WE the people"... Then I am asking what can be done for me, am I not?

  • @Bammx2 No then you are asking what can be done for your country, Because it's WE the people, not me the person,, so ask what can you do for your country, because we're in this shit together.

  • This is Roy Zimmerman's best song. It's even better than "I approve this message". I'd give it five stars, only the Youtube gods removed that feature.

  • uh oh lol

  • Well that is the kind of patriotism I can get behind, Good luck not fucking up, chaps.

  • Wow, lots of symbolism in this song.

  • @tortex088 Well im glad to see that there is a reason why both the NAZIS and the USA both use the eagle. Man you have successfully made me lose all hope in America.

  • @omgreally666 I'm a bit late, but they both use(d) eagles because eagles were bad-ass. Romans and Byzantines and many other factions also used eagles.

  • Roy Zimmerman is the Walt Whitman and Aaron Copland of our times.

  • E pluribus unum? It just might work!

Love this song. Proud to be American.

  • Yeah, such guys make America a lil more honorable.

    Great stuff.

  • Roy, you are BRILLIANT. I'm a grad student, libertarian, Eagle Scout, Mensa member AND an NRA member who believes the Constitution is NOT a "Chinese Menu", so I imagine we probably disagree with a few points, but I am also a HUGE supporter of and purveyor of dissent (I'm a print maker) and I appreciate your willingness to take shots at the hypocrisy on "both sides". I live in North Carolina--PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come here, and play at some of the universities!!! Please, I'm begging you...

  • @stereodreamer23

    RC?

    Evil One

  • U.S.A is not America ;D

  • I'm embarrassed to say that there are people like you who are embarrassed to say they are American. Give your passport to someone else-someone who wants to be an American. You don't deserve it.

  • RZ is a saving grace to me and a lot of my fellow Americans. Don't judge the US by the fraction of the country who DIDN'T vote for Obama.

    A brie-eating, chardonnay-swilling, bleeding-heart liberal and proud of it.

  • Fantastic! This is a funny but serious summing up of so many things thatmake us who and what we are, for better or worse.

  • americans, you should hold your leaders accountable. "The People" should take the conservative party to court and hold them responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of their own constituents by needlessly stalling the implementation of national health care.

Since when did your nation become so jaded that "We the People" lost all meaning?

  • @TheHomelessCripple Since we discovered it was easier to watch TV and eat chips than to get up and cook our own dinner.

Why bother doing the work when you can just as easily chow down on stuff that'll kill you in the long run but keeps you alive for the moment?

  • "America is group therapy session with one guy in the corner who will not shut up!" xD

  • Cant Fuckin Wait For The Fourth Of July!!!

    AMERICA!!!

  • A vegetarian vampire.

    Haha, burn.

  • Why be embarrassed? Xenophobic people should be embarrassed to judge people without knowing them first (btw, I'm not American).

  • Wow, Roy, all your songs are amazing but I think this is my favorite. Great job.

  • Lol! 1:30 twilight

  • I've watched this video so often, it sometimes appears in the 'related videos' to my grand mal seizure. LOL!

  • i totally agree i always feel like i have to appologize for being american when im in another country ..its embarassing to be american anymore and its sad

  • you've got such a great smile @ 0:34 :)

this is my best liked song of yours

  • "I gotta meeting." You tell 'em (us)!

  • Folks like Roy are America's saving grace in the eyes of non-americans.

    (just like me. 8)

  • HAIL HAIL!

  • @temporaldisplacement What a lot of folks don't know is that there are literally millions of people in America who think like Roy. (Though, admittedly, very few of them are as talented as he is.) Media, both in the US and abroad, don't like to spend precious airtime on normal, sane, intelligent people who are actually aware of the rest of the world. Bigoted hatemongers who march around with misspelled signs are much more newsworthy, apparently.

  • @LunarMovements I absolutly agree. 8)

  • @LunarMovements

Well said! mega thumbs-up (tried to give you an actual thumbs-up, but it doesn't seem to be registering ... maybe it's on some kind of delay)

    *¬◊

  • @LunarMovements It shouldn't be that way, though. I've been watching quite a bit of British entertainment and found they raise their intelligent to near god-like status; just look at Stephen Fry (he's the modern Oscar Wilde IMO, and something we are desperately missing here since we lost our George Carlin =/).

  • @LunarMovements what needs to happen is the bigots and hatemongers need to be completely ignored by the media. the Phelps family and Westboro Baptist Church WANT media coverage. that is their entire goal. if you ignore them, they won't be able to cause damage on the large scale and they might just go away.

  • @LunarMovements It is like a Freak show! the worst ones are actually the best ones to show off =P

  • I do believe he was referring to the people who not only have opinions (like the rest of us) but thinks that their opinion is the only one that matters and shoves it down our throats (usually while blindly insulting others). It seems that the only person guilty of this ATM is you... but I could be wrong =P

  • I really like it. The metaphors make sense. I laughed a lot. But I like the references to the founding documents, Declaration, constitution, and Gettysburg Address. (yeah, crazy, right?) Beautiful.

  • this was beautiful :)

  • Is there anyone who can help me with the transcript about what William James Fulbright said about democracy?

I am not getting the last part...:S

  • as far as i understand it: "in a democracy, dissent is an act of faith"

  • Desent is American...unless of course your one of those conservatives.

  • Quite right. To be specific, from 2000-2008 it was "crazy, extreme-left anarchism to not side with the president", and from the start of 2009 to now it's "their constitutional right to speak their minds (by yelling as loud as they can with a gun in their hand)".

Ah, America... where the Second Amendment is more important than the First (technically with the Second one can easily remove someone else's First pretty quick =/). Where IQ doesn't count, but your penis size does. Ah... America...

  • I want to learn all these songs.

  • I can play them but I wish I had a half decent singing voice :(

  • I love the way Roy says "Americaaaaaaaah" ^_^

    I love this guy :)

  • Happy Birthday, America!!

  • America...It just might work!

    Happy Birthday, America!

  • great parody song, and it had a nice melody as well. it's true in a lot of ways, yet people seem to take it too seriously.

  • Beautiful song, really shows everything that is great about America.

  • actually apes are descended from monkeys so guys congratulations your all fucking monkies mates ;)

  • Seen this guy twice and got to meet him in person because my dad is good friends with him. He's an awesome dude =).

  • Roy: You should go on Craig Ferguson's show and sing this song!

  • whatever!!!!,.....that shit is gooder'n heck

  • Holy shit, this guy is awesome. I wish I could write songs half-as elouquent and funny as this!

  • One of the things I love about America is that everyone is entitled to their opinions. One of mine is that both trolling and responding to trolls is a waste of time. NB: The best way to end a conversation is not to deliver a crushing retort, but to say nothing. Unfortunately, those who would most promote domestic tranquility by reading and heeding this message are unlikely to do so, but that's how it goes; the risk of expressing an opinion is that it will be ignored. Live long and prosper.

  • Amen!

  • zactly.

  • Fantastic song, I love it.

  • creationists scare me... if there is a demise to the human race it will be due to religion.

  • u don't understanding the difference between the belief in god,and the following of an organized religion. the belief in god is a personal spiritual bond, and can have nothing to do with religion.i love how u people get on creationists and act like ur not just as hollow-minded as them by acting like u know for sure they are wrong and u are right. how do u know if the universe is just the collective cluster of nature,or if there IS in fact some sort of intelligent personification to the universe?

  • Very well put. And i have to agree with you.

  • i mean after all, there is obviously some sort of generation of intelligence among nature. everything follows a perfect system. is that intentional or not?..is that orchestrated or random?..there is absolutely no way to know. so just remain neutral. opinions are like assholes, but just because u have an asshole, doesn't mean u NEED an opinion..especially on something as mysterious as the universe.

  • i know for sure they are wrong thanks to DNA.

What do you mean by random? Are you making a straw man?

Because the hypothesis of god came out of ancient history im pretty sure we can conclude that its based on our ignorance of nature.

  • random as in purposeless..

sure, the human concept of god came from a lack of understanding of the world around them, but that still doesn't prove they are wrong. lack of science caused us to create the concept, but has science yet disproven the concept?

how can u say a spiritual realm doesn't exist when we have no way to prove or disprove it?

how do u explain mass ghost sightings, or repeated ghost sightings of the same ghost by different people?

and what does dna prove about creationism?

  • Yes science cant disprove a teapot orbiting around the sun either but we both agree how stupid it is to have faith that it is. It has yet to disprove Thor so why not believe in Thor?

You have to use that logic for anything we cant disprove due to its not being real.

I can explain it the same way I can explain people seeing Jesus, or Allah, or Muhammad, or Thor, or Bigfoot, or Chupacabra.

Its all the same, just because you believe it you give it this special respect.

  • the concept of a spiritual realm, isn't in the same league as saying a teapot revolves around the sun. we at least have signs that there might be a spiritual realm..like i was sayin before with mass ghost sightings where everyone describes seeing the same thing, or personal stories i've heard from a friend from work that used to own a bar. she lived upstairs from it. she'd hear a packed bar talking and music playing..so, she'd walk downstairs and the bar would be silent, and empty.

  • maybe you should watch the shining... and youll understand why she has heard the bar

give me any single haunted place and i will go into it and nothing will happen to me ill hear nothing more than little animals

i agree zeus is definably real and Jesus isnt. im glad we cleared this whole spiritual realm thing up

DARE go into any haunted house or whatever for a night... nothing will happen to you. i would actually like ot go with you to hear you scream at little sounds and animals making noise

  • it's not a smart thing to be so sure of urself.

the spiritual realm could be another aspect of nature that we haven't been able to fully understand or study yet. some people may have a heightened connection to it, and some people may have none. after all, we only use a minuscule percentage of our brain..u take the answers science brings to the table, and construct ur reality from that, when there could be so much more that is unknown...which comes back to my main point again. don't be so sure

  • so because evolution is real that means im sure that there is no spirit realm???

your so brainwashed that you think evolution disproves god.. it only disproves a god that claims nothing died until eve ate the forbidden fruit.

  • evolution hasn't been fully proven actually. we are not able to prove macro-evolution. it's too vast and happens far too gradually over time. it's obvious adaptation occurs, and mutations occur, basically proving that life does evolve. but, there is no definite hard proof that species evolve from other species. i personally believe we do come from apes. our dna is close to identical with them, and human beings have tailbones. i think that is circumstancial evidence enough that we evolved (cont)

  • We haven't evolved from apes - we are apes. That's a biological fact.

  • what are you talking about? Our closest genetic cousin is the chimpanzee. The primates (apes, monkeys, humans, etc) all evolved independently from a common source, but we are not apes...that is overly simplistic

  • um, actually the great apes consist of humans, bonobos, chimps, gorillas and orangutans. moron.

  • You are a rude jerk aren't you?

"An ape is any member of the Hominoidea superfamily of primates. In less scientific language, it has various meanings, although it OFTEN (but not always) excludes humans. Due to its AMBIGUOUS nature, the term 'ape' is LESS SUITABLE as a means of describing taxonomic relationships."

"...Current evidence implies that humans share a common, extinct, ancestor with the chimpanzee line, from which we separated more recently than the gorilla line." -wikipedia

    Bite me.

  • ::chomp:: humans are apes.
