During my education at Univ. of Tenn. (civil engineering major), the transportation & traffic engineering professor talked about this bypass from time to time. I've heard that there were three proposals and there were lots of opposition from local residents during almost every hearing. Has this project ever taken off?
The conditions at downtown Knoxville before the fix was horrible. Back when I went to Univ. of Tennessee the road segment between 388 & 389 was very narrow and during my last couple of semesters construction was underway. I guess there's still traffic problems along Knoxville's interstates especially where I-40 & I-75 overlap. Does anyone know what's the status of planning/building the bypass from exit ramp 368 (where I-40 & I-75 separate) to I-75 north of the city?
Thanks for the vid. I had heard now nice the SmartFix was for Knoxville. Nice to see it in it's completion. When I left, it was just in the planning stage.
I like that you can glimpse the World's Fair globe on here.
That I-40 fix was MUCH needed, and just in time for the traffic going to Bristol for NASCAR! I always used the bypass, but now it's almost unnecessary unless you're traveling north or you're in a high traffic time of day.
The traffic and construction through there had been bad for as long as I can remember, and now it's weird how smooth and hassle-free it is.
Thanks for the quick reply ........ I'm also testing a roof mounted HD camcorder to do the same thing.
I'm using a JVC Everio with an internal hard drive. But vibrations shut the camera down so I'm in the process of making a better shock absorbing mount. I prefer to use the internal 40 GB hard drive than SD cards, but if I can't fix the vibration problem then I will have to go with SD cards.
I was just wondering Is it one of your hobbies to drive around the country on the freeways? You must be spending a lot of money on gas, brakes, and rotors.
yes, would be really awesome if you do a video on new york.
very nice music with this Jim. I've been running around upstate New York for the past few days and am enjoying the cooler weather and very green landscape.
Since you're going to New England and the Northeast, are you gonna have any chance to film any freeways in central and western Massachusetts(i.e. Springfield, Worchester, etc.), or any freeways in eastern and central NY state(i.e. Albany, Syracuse, Utica)?
The SmartFix40 project did an excellent job in fixing up I-40 through Knoxville, without a doubt! Hope I can get to Knoxville one day, since I've rarely ever been able to explore eastern TN for myself.
Yeah, for comparison, the rebuilding of the I-10/I-110 interchange and the SR 291 Interchange next to it, and the rebuilding of 3 miles of I-10 was finall completed, after over 60 months of construction.
Slow down asshole. Only fools rush in.

How much is the time lapse or fast motion on this video? My guess it's about 1.5x or 2x maximum. Thanks
LenWhistler 2 years ago
it's in the 3.8x to 4.2 x range.

Thanks, yes for about 10 miles on 40/75 you see a sign for just about everything off the side of the road.
I'm looking forward to the trip too, I just hope the weather cooperates.
