Good video, my Scots ancestor was brought here in chains in 1746, he didn't even have a last name, just a Scots Clan called Chattan. The Brits gave him the last name "Smith" because he was apprenticed originally to be a blacksmith before the Jacobite Rebellion. He was captured at Cullodeen and missed being strung up because he was young and could be a blacksmith. He was a slave in Connecticut for about 5-6 years before he managed to buy his way out and married his owners spinster daughter.

You're a very knowledgable man; most of my family is of mixed Brtish Isles ancestry (lots of English, Irish, and some Scottish and Welsh), and I'm obsessed with history. To this day, the people of Jamaica call the Irish their 'cousins,' and Peter Tosh used to express his love for the Irish people and their struggles; and reggae is my favorite genre. Hey, Hoffman isn't a great source for your claims about white slavery considering alot of the other things he argues. Can you point to any direct sources that provide illumination on this topic? I just don't want to pick up on a conspiracy theory. I was never taught this at all.
Also Africans were preferred because unlike the white indentured servants, they could be kept in bondage indefinitely, indentured servants were under contractual agreement although they were not always there on their own accord, usually the servitude would last 5-7 years of labor, although this could be extended and abused. Also don't forget that we attempted to enslave natives also which proved too difficult. You should read Chesapeake by James A Michener, a historical fiction you might like.

Yes, I was told that as well, however when researching he origin, I found out that Red Leg and Red Neck far predated the use by the coalminers also they used the term red neck and leg interchangable in Barbados, totally seperate from the West Virginia areas. There were many called that in S.Carolina as well which was a direct pipeline from Barbados.

Regarding Crispus Attucks it may be that Hoffman classifies him as native american because his mother was. In America they reversed the English law which said the child inherited the status of the father to the status of the mother so that the children of the mothers (white, black, native) could be kept in bondage. My grandmother is Jewish. I also have Native American blood. But, most of my ancestors were Irish. Good video, my Scots ancestor was brought here in chains in 1746, he didn't even have a last name, just a Scots Clan called Chattan. The Brits gave him the last name "Smith" because he was apprenticed originally to be a blacksmith before the Jacobite Rebellion. He was captured at Cullodeen and missed being strung up because he was young and could be a blacksmith. He was a slave in Connecticut for about 5-6 years before he managed to buy his way out and married his owners spinster daughter.

I definitely agree that this country is Anglocentric by its very definition. It was English white males that came here, originally in the pursuit of 'freedom' but then took it from others. As someone who is of Puerto Rican, Italian and Irish descent, my father's half is still looked down upon while my mother's side, who immigrated in the early 1900s, was not even considered 'white' until the Anglo-Saxon elite wanted to re-create the social pyramid and make them forget how they were treated.

Neither me nor my parents, nor their parents....etc... had slaves and should not have to pay for anything. What some people or other people did should not fall on ALL people. You're a very knowledgable man; most of my family is of mixed Brtish Isles ancestry (lots of English, Irish, and some Scottish and Welsh), and I'm obsessed with history. To this day, the people of Jamaica call the Irish their 'cousins,' and Peter Tosh used to express his love for the Irish people and their struggles; and reggae is my favorite genre. People of different races, religions, etc. have undergone common hardship. There's no need for division among us. Thanks for sharing this.

In Belize, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago they are known as "Bakras" ("Back-Row"). Many of these people were English, Irish, or Scottish, and had originally arrived on Barbados in the early to mid 17th century as slaves, indentured servants, or as transported prisoners.

Repair is not same as the exploitation which caused the damage. We as American citizens pay Israel billions of dollars every year. Reparations means to "repair" there is extreme mental and culture damage done by stripping millions of people and 400 years of free labor. It takes a proper re-training to repair this damage. no cash money is needed but Israel and Japan got financial reparation and America pays Israel billions of dollars every year and America did not even do it, all we did was help during WWII but our taxes are taken right off the top. I must say that I don't advocate money as far as reparations but this nation got 400 years of free labor and stripped the Africans of everything, name, culture, land of origin and then after all of the generations set them free with nothing and said deal with it. The whites that went thru the process reaped the benefits of that free labor and it was illegal for Africans to give anything to the next generations, no voting until the 60's. Raiding parties would often come along to Ireland and capture slaves on a regular basis and there is a well documented incident known as the Sack of Baltimore where almost the entire population of Baltimore in county Cork were captured as slaves to be used in Algeria...

FYI, white people with this heritage have always known about it, we just couldn't figure out how to research it. I am a 50-yr-old woman whose great-great grandfather was a slave in Alabama. He was white, from Scotland, and married to a Creek Indian woman. He and his brother were both slaves in the Alabama cotton fields and treated badly. But God is good, and He had a plan for my line of ppl, as He did for those of black ancestry. Gotta stand back & look at the big picture. Thanx 4 the vids!

Also Africans were preferred because unlike the white indentured servants, they could be kept in bondage indefinitely, indentured servants were under contractual agreement although they were not always there on their own accord, usually the servitude would last 5-7 years of labor, although this could be extended and abused. Also don't forget that we attempted to enslave natives also which proved too difficult. You should read Chesapeake by James A Michener, a historical fiction you might like.

Yes, I was told that as well, however when researching he origin, I found out that Red Leg and Red Neck far predated the use by the coalminers also they used the term red neck and leg interchangable in Barbados, totally seperate from the West Virginia areas. There were many called that in S.Carolina as well which was a direct pipeline from Barbados.
