Led Zeppelin was a child of the Yardbirds. They Honored many Blues artist as did the Cream and the Jeff Beck Group. Beck Clapton and Page were very Instrumental in getting artist like Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and real Blues to new audiences in the 1960's.
amazing song, and stop saying Led zeppelin stole songs, you make it seem like everything from their catalog was taken, Hell led shouldn't even be a topic in this video
very spcey solo. a little dificult to hit all the notes because it's uniquely not on time. great job by clapton to make it that way. also, IM SO GLAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I first heard this song a the Murray The K, Easter SPecial, in some theater in NYC. I had no idea who these guys were, but immediately bought this album, Fresh Cream, then all of the rest they put out. those were the days, my friends. everything seemed ... wonderful ... and "far-out" ha ha ha
This version of I'm So Glad and their version of Spoonful from the same album were, IMHO, the best songs they did. I'm not knocking the other stuff like White Room and Sunshine of Your Love but these are much more timeless. More deeplly roote too, thanks to The Wolf and Mr. Skip James
"And while Led Zeppelin stole the songs of blues artists without giving them credit" ala insightfloww and "oh Yes I do, Deep Purple did it as well".......
If you listen to ANY musical artist, you may hear similarities in the sounds of their songs.. They are influenced and inspired by MANY artists.. If this is stealing, then ALL songwriters are guilty..
The amount of great music created in 1966 was incredible; take a look what was out there that year ... I didn't hear this album until 1967, when I was 15 but at the time, it was groundbreaking.
And while Led Zeppelin stole the songs of blues artists without giving them credit (they were sued by Willie Dixon), Cream actually recorded I'm So Glad to pay for Skip James's cancer treatment. Skip lived a couple more years and made another record.
@insightfloww That's nice that Cream would do that. Led Zeppelin was definitely not the only British artist to steal tho. Rolling Stones, Small Faces, et cetera. The struggle of African Americans in the southern US was something they didn't encounter personally, but they loved their music. They didn't see it as stealing. Zeppelin just did a really crappy job of stealing half the songs on their first LP but at least they got somewhat better at it later.
@heywally Music has changed every week in that year, it was a huge development not only in that year, but between 1965 and 1969. Amazing, wish I had a time machine, I would fly back, throw away my time machine and would stay there forever!
@lilic1 - being so young, you are fortunate to have discovered so much of the 60's music. There was great pop stuff (great songs!) throughout the 60's and of course, it eventually evolved to the great 'heavier' stuff, which eventually evolved into something not so great. My first big concert was Cream in Chicago in 1968 but it was in a huge cavernous place and the sound was terrible, still, it was pretty memorable just seeing them. I would also like to be in 1966, just don't make me be 14 again.
Sorry to state the obvious... but one person wasn't glad.

Anyone at all realize it is a Skip James cover?

I meant their sound, not necessarily the song ...

Yes, I love Cream's sound of freedom.
And while Led Zeppelin stole the songs of blues artists without giving them credit (they were sued by Willie Dixon), Cream actually recorded I'm So Glad to pay for Skip James's cancer treatment. Skip lived a couple more years and made another record.
