bryce harper is unbelievably talented within the game of baseball and when your as good as him and have the potential he has, i think you can try and rock some baseball swag, part of the game these days
bryce harper is still a very good ball player for real who do you see throwing runners out from there knees its much better than having to fucking get up and do it and its simple and looks cooler

Even a lot...of bad catchers....can do that....lol....I'm glad that there is no chance of that being confused with anything but sarcasm, lol! I love it Lake90wood...and for any moron who is unsure, ask any pitcher, if any catcher can throw runners out. "Any" would include the great, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Eli Wallach ain't throwing anybody out, standing or otherwise! lol. A great arm and quick accurate release behind the plate is 2nd only to a great SS-2B combo for a pitcher.
@MegaForgetful1 Ask any pitcher that? I am a pitcher. The running game isn't based solely on the catcher..your catcher doesn't even have to have a great arm if the pitcher is good enough to switch up looks and timing to the plate and with a good slide step, it's gonna make it tough on the runner.. Alot of catchers are capable of doing that. Is harper gonna throw out every runner when he goes from his knees? no. Fundamentals wins games. Maybe he's just not quick enough to throw it from his feet.
@Lake90Wood Not following you Lake. Perhaps you can clarify. Do you mean any "pro" catcher when you say even a lot of BAD catchers...? Please define a BAD catcher, keeping in mind it means that a coach or manager has decided he is a starter. I took it to literally mean he was bad. Now, since I have played with and against pitchers up through Double A ball, managed several of them, was a pitcher myself, I took your comment to mean down into the teen levels (where this vid came from). Next...
@Lake90Wood Our team in youth ball (15 max age) had a catcher (questionable) that by the end of the year we had him just throw to the pitcher who then would try to nail the runner on a relay, because the catcher was so weak. He even missed (didn't catch) a called strike three in the corner in a game - BUT he was a starter! ZThe team sucked of course. But I guess I'll blame the pitcher for a poor slide step.
@Lake90Wood If you watched any baseball, you'd see that almost every catcher throws to second base from their feet. Throwing from your knees is obviously quicker because you don't have to stand up, so then why don't all catchers do it? It is because they don't have the arm strength. They need the power from their legs to make a good throw. Nice try though.
@quesoesbien I don't watch any baseball, I just play. All catchers don't throw from their knees because they're quick enough to throw from their feet. If you don't have the arm strength to get the ball to second base from your knees then you probably shouldn't be catching... at least anywhere outside of little league.
@Lake90Wood I don't know what to say other than that you're wrong. I catch on high school varsity, and I can't throw anyone out from my knees. I can reach second from my knees, but it would be a crappy throw. Harper's arm strength is ridiculous, because he can make a good throw from his knees.
@quesoesbien I'm not saying he doesn't have a good arm... I'm just sayin that throwing someone out from their knees isn't THAT impressive... If you don't have the arm strength to have a solid throw to second from your knees then you're gonna have a hard time getting to a good university unless you have other tools to work with...
@Lake90Wood uh. you are a god damn fool. throwing someone out from your knees isnt impressive? throwing out someone from your feet is a damn good play. from your knees is fucking unreal. ive never seen anyone do it. obviously youve never played elite baseball.
@quesoesbien Possibly... just saying alot of people can do it... it's still impressive... not taking anything away from harper's talent... He is impressive as a player... but the catching part of his game is not the best... or his best..
Real reason he threw from his knees was because it was a pitch low and away and he was crouched too low to get up quickly... With an arm like his it didn't matter anyways. Haha. And I saw this live btw
the reason why he threw from his knees is because its a faster way to get the ball down to second then it is for him to pop up to his feet and then throw. obviously the guy was fast so thats why he did it. and plus hes got a fucking cannon for an arm so he can just throw a seed from his knees down to second no problemo
@sportsandstuff if you were really a catcher you would be giving your pitcher signs so you know what pitch is coming that wasn't the reason he went to his knees
@2012498 sometimes, you get crossed up as a catcher and think the pitch is a curve when its really a heater so you have no time to pop up and throw that guys got a cannon of an arm tho :P
@Linester25 i HATE THat eye black look. When i was pitching to sierra valley high school i hit their #4 hitter right on his back because of that eyeblack
@TheOriginalMinty I'm not a pitcher but I totally would hit someone for wearing ridiculous eye black. Seriously, i've played some kids that looked like they were fresh out of a KISS concert.
@uclaballer100 I'm sure he isn't....He's an amazing ball player...i just CAN"T STAND the eye black look.... It serves absolutely no purpose to put it on like that other than to draw attention to yourself. This guy needs nothing but his unreal talent to speak for him....get rid of the "cocky-look-at-me-bullshit-fashion-statement eyeblack"..
@Linester25 bro your just jealous you cant do shit like that, and not make any wheres, i give props to Bryce, he might seem over rated, but he sure as hell backs it up...
@BaseballKid920 At what point did I bash him on his talent???? I SAID I HATE THE EYE BLACK!!!!!!........This is the best player i have ever seen at his age.....I don't think he is over rated at all.....Baseball is the toughest sport to succeed in...you're right, I can't do the things he's done....You won't believe me, but I played AA ball and didn't have SHIT on this guy and was released...I also have several buddies in MLB and this kid makes them look like T-ball players when they were that age
@chronicpk Not even close....there is a difference in one line of eye black under your eyes, and smearing that crap all over your entire face for looks....if he had one line of eye black, I would be cool with that...but he smears it to try to look cool just like some other douches I played with and against....they used to look at themselves in the mirror for 5 minutes before games just to see if it looked cool enough before they'd leave the locker room. That much eye black serves no purpose.
@xtremekiwi12 No, I don't feel like an idiot...I believe he is the most talented ball player i've ever seen at his age.....I've said it half a dozen times on this page.....I made an observation that I hate the over dramatic eye black that serves no purpose, and that his unbelievable talent should speak for itself...I'm not a dumbass...Is he your boyfriend? You sure are getting defensive over someone you don't even know.
@friar1219 Yea because being a catcher wears out your knees and to be a great hitter it has alot to do with your legs, so if he play right field it will lengthen his tim ein the majors...
Absolutely perfect. Flawlessly played. He may not do well his frist year, but i think this kids going to be a monster. He needs to be on the right team. Not sure the Nats are them.
@ChiCityPool: Why not? They have the best young pitcher, one of the best young 3B in baseball, and several other bright prospects. I'm not a Nats fan, but I see success in their future. 2013 will probably be the year to get excited about:
C - Norris, 1B - Dunn, SS - Desmond, 3B - Zimmerman, RF - Harper. Pitchers Strasburg and Storen...it could fall apart, but look for the Nats to be successful down the road.
Eh, his age and contract status make me believe he will not be a big part of their future. After 31, power numbers decrease for players who are not elite power hitters. Great player now, though.
@furiousdan First of all, that's not true. Second of all, how could you even possibly think he won't be a big part of their future? They took him #1 overall in the draft, and signed him to a huge contract.
@furiousdan I was responding to Knzrocks. Feel free to look up the origin of the comments.
But if you don't, the bottomline is that this comment wasn't about Bryce Harper (spoiler alert--he isn't near age 31), it was about Josh Willingham. And it is true that he will begin to see a dip in OPS in the next year or two--which is why they should deal him to best help themselves compete in 2013 and beyond.
Hey, just cause Pudge didnt hit 40 home runs inna game doesnt mean hes not one of the best, if not the best. Im not saying hes the best, but an amazing hitter doesnt make you an amazing player
@kace842 you're wrong. if you listened to the draft and the aftermath they are making him an outfielder because it will take him less time to get to the majors and also he will be less injury prone if he is in the outfield.
hes not even going to catch...... there putting him as an outfielder because as a catcher theres a alot of things to learn and they wanna get his bat up to the majors plus he has way to much speed to waste at catcher
thumbs up if you agree....................... Next Ivan Rodriguez? Only Catcher I know that can put a ball all the way to second, right in front of the runner, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!
@lilsnidesorioles you're serious? Ivan Rodriguez is THE GREATEST catcher to ever play the game, he put up career numbers when he played for the Rangers, he was averaging a SB% of .10 against him. He hit .325 and averaged 40 homeruns a season.
@Whoami225 hahah you just fucking compared Pudge to that shit mauer? Go compare career numbers buddy, stolen bases against. Pudge is THE GREATEST EVER!!! Ask the Experts on MLB Network.
i was in the stands i remember that. that was that week where they had teams from all diff. regions of the country. like midwest, northeast, mid atlantic, etc. and i was face to face w. him at one point at a cage off to the side.

Eh, his age and contract status make me believe he will not be a big part of their future. After 31, power numbers decrease for players who are not elite power hitters. Great player now, though.
furiousdan 1 year ago
@furiousdan First of all, that's not true. Second of all, how could you even possibly think he won't be a big part of their future? They took him #1 overall in the draft, and signed him to a huge contract.

@furiousdan I was responding to Knzrocks. Feel free to look up the origin of the comments.
But if you don't, the bottomline is that this comment wasn't about Bryce Harper (spoiler alert--he isn't near age 31), it was about Josh Willingham. And it is true that he will begin to see a dip in OPS in the next year or two--which is why they should deal him to best help themselves compete in 2013 and beyond.

hes not going to be the best catcher that ever played because hes playing outfield now
CriminalMexican13 1 year ago
@CriminalMexican13 he is not, he's catching for the Nationals.
kace842 1 year ago
@kace842 you're wrong. if you listened to the draft and the aftermath they are making him an outfielder because it will take him less time to get to the majors and also he will be less injury prone if he is in the outfield.

hes not even going to catch...... there putting him as an outfielder because as a catcher theres a alot of things to learn and they wanna get his bat up to the majors plus he has way to much speed to waste at catcher

@kace842 ivan rodrigurz is ok but this guy is an the best utility guy ever and he can hit eextremely well
lilsnidesorioles 1 year ago
@lilsnidesorioles you're serious? Ivan Rodriguez is THE GREATEST catcher to ever play the game, he put up career numbers when he played for the Rangers, he was averaging a SB% of .10 against him. He hit .325 and averaged 40 homeruns a season.

i was in the stands i remember that. that was that week where they had teams from all diff. regions of the country. like midwest, northeast, mid atlantic, etc. and i was face to face w. him at one point at a cage off to the side.

I agree with the nats in moving him to OF it'll save his knees (my gf dad played catcher for AA reds) and he have a lot longer career
