don't see what the fuss's all about. i mean, 'memoirs of a geisha' has actors speaking accented english too, and everyone was rather cool with it.

on the other end of the spectrum we've got actors in 'mua he chieu thang dung' speaking vietnamese in a weird accent as well (understandably, since they live overseas.)

I want to say after my previous post that it makes me happy and proud to see Vietnamese movies coming up to speed with the rest of the industry. Regardless of what flaws people may see.

I can see what the producers are trying to do, in that they want to appeal to a wider market. The problem here is the same as with many other Asian movies that have been done in English. If you're going to do a movie with Asian people speaking English(In Asia?), I think ALL the actors need to speak FLAWLESS English. Otherwise, you are perpetuating stereotypes. Forget about having stars. Find and make new ones. There are millions of Asians worldwide that speak what is considered proper English.

But behind closed doors, even the best of them will mock or laugh inside about a bad Asian/English accent at some point.

sound weird in english, and this film is taking place in saigon?? Well alot of vietnamese do understand/speak english, thats a fact but still this films shoulda been done in vietnamese instead. Dustin and johnny's english is fine they sound like any other asian who picked up english spending several years in the u.s. Only thing, save the english for U.S. films, it would make more sense.

Oh P..freakin LEASE! Acting involves speaking & physical display of emotion. Based on the trailer the acting is okay, but the speaking SUCKS! It's like watching movies depicting ancient stories in China with the actors speaking English. English will never bend well with how Asian people act. Take Chow Yun Fat for instance. He's a great actor in Asia, but he's nobody in Hollywood because he had to speak English. I wouldn't pay a penny to watch this movie 'cause the trailer already freaks me out.
