I hope everyone realizes that Heather song is for Paul's daughter. Many many years later he did release a different song called Heather, but for she who shall remain nameless (HM).
donovan was such an influence on paul and john........they used to try and hide the chords they were playing from each other.......donovan was also a huge influence on british music.......KNIGHTHOOD.
Loved Donovan. Some of his obsure work is really good. There was this one double CD that came in a box, and it had NO hit songs on it, just basically him and guitar. It had the song "Tinker & The Crab" on it. Very cool stuff.
Awesome clip, thank you! Anybody know if its true about Paul singing in the background of Atlantis? Anybody think there is something fishy about John Lennon's assassination?
@chgojack1 there's not proof Paul sang on Atlantis. he's not listed in the liner credits, and even so, it was recorded 1968 which was a year Paul mostly stayed at his farm in Scotland- so I doubt he'd go halfway across he world to La just to record one song. It's probably just a rumour to get people to listen to/buy the album or song.
@4FabBEATLES I have to respectfully disagree with you. I'm sure if you do a little research, you will find that Paul was one of the back up singers for the song, Atlantis :)
@chgojack1 it's possible that Paul sang backing on Atlantis, but not 100% guaranteed or proven . lets put it that way. there are alot of rumor, but not physical proof since Paul never said anything even in =his authorized biography and hes not credited anywhere on the album liner notes. its just one of those uncertain mysteries
I believe Donovan was the one who showed John Lennon how to do Travis style picking which he used on Dear Prudence and Julia. He woulda made a cool 5th Beatle:)
I love that RINGO WANTED NO PART OF THIS "INNER lIGHT "EXPAND THE MIND":: STUFF AND WENT HOME AND WROTE \OCTOPUS GARDEN lol (i THINK HE WROTE THAT ACTUALLY before THE MAHARISHI TRIP)
Okay...I suppose I could copy the audio here somehow....I've never heard of this in all my years as a Beatle freak. I love Donovan, possibly the most misunderstood figure of the 60's. Fantastically diverse writer and performer.
These recordings and more from this recording session are on a rare beatles bootleg called "No. 3 Abbey Road NW8" You can find it on demonoid in FLAC.
D. P. Leitch magpie my eye. At 8:30 Don plays a picking pattern similar to that used in Dear Prudence...hmm...But I'm sure Joan Baez and John Lennon met at least and maybe played guitar together, maybe more...
Somebody strikes a match at 2:06. It's a safe bet that whatever it is they are smoking is probably contributing to their seemingly festive mood. Mary Hopkin's "Postcard" LP did include three Donovan tunes, but not these ones.

Donovan is such a dork.

shut up. MANY people adored his work. Besides, if he was a dork, why is he hanging out with Sir Paul?

I was referring to him in this clip. He sounds one.

You say that as if there's something odd about that. I have no shame in thinking he were a genius. Nor thinking Donovan sounds a tit here. ;)

Donovan would kill Paul McCartney when it comes to music if Paul went solo. But would all 4 Beatles defeat Donovan?
and what if,
John Lennon and Paul vs Donovan. 2 on 1, pretty interesting.
I also wanna point out Atlantis and Hey Jude are pretty similar.
anythingnew 3 years ago
Idiot.
doctorcrichton 3 years ago
If Paul went solo? that would mean the Beatles would have to break up. That'll never happen.
clucaspik 3 years ago 15
i mean as in VS Donovan alone, with no help.

I dont know, i think theres a reason Paul is remembered and most people have to stop and go "Donovan? .... Oh that guy?"

Actually Donovan dropped out of the scene for a while - on purpose.
