the game made this song more than the tv series did, as much as i loved this song when playing the game when i watched the tv series i was disapointed that this song was only playing in the background and you could hardly hear it
I'm very interested in this sort of music but i can't find more because i don't know how to define it. Instrumental Middle Eastern metal? Something you'd hear on C&C Generals as GLA music. I need this like bread.
@Desolator84 Most people just call it Epic. type in Epic Music and do a bit of hunting and you should get quite a few songs with eastern themes. Lots of Latin as well.
I didn't dislike Black Market as much the second time I watched it. The plot with Lee and his Caprica girlfriend was contrived and unnecessary, but the episode does have it's interesting elements. The scenes with Baltar and Roslin and Zarek were quite good.
wow, somewhere around the middle this thing started to sound like just some guitar slashes, i almost lost my ears because i left it on full volume, which means i love this soundtrack! :P
Lee was only a useful character as an antagonist (to his father, Roslin, Starbuck ect.). Standing him on his own was an attempt to humanize him. If this episode had been earlier in season 2, with more expansion upon Lee's girlfriend from Caprica it would've been great. But because its a one off and Lee doesn't change at all from the experience we go on hating him... Not the best episode, but I don't think there is a bad one personally
Taking a Break from All Your Worries is one of the best episodes of the series. Day in the Life and Hero are probably about the same as Black Market (I'd put all 3 in my bottom 5).
@MrZingnigga thumbs up ;) Taking a Break was one of my all time fave episodes of BSG, I didn't realise till much later it was Directed by Edward James Olmos :O that man is actually the BEST thing that could possibly have happened to the show :P most of my favourite aspects of the show can be traced back to him. (this episode, the phrase 'So Say We All' and the total lack of Aliens to name a few)
While this episode isn't good, there are plenty of episodes from Seasons 3 and 4 that are much, much worse. Episodes including: Hero, Taking a Break from All Your Worries, A Day in the Life, Deadlock...
my problem with the episode is not lee's relationship, but that the black market was not demonstratably bad. the sale of children is somewhat manipulative on the part of the writers.
There's parts of this that ironically remind me of a piece for an old PC game. "Unreal Tournament 2004" The track was called "Arctic stronghold Theme" or "SND ONS07". It's a little more "electronic" sounding the but the electric guitar in both songs have a similar feel to it.
@Talon3000 Yeah I can hear that too. Mostly in the rhythm of the building guitar. The part that catches my ear the most though is the exotic phrygian, or dominate scales that the melody is built on giving this, (and most of the BSG soundtrack) that middle eastern vibe. - A good example of what I mean is "Egyptian Danza" by Al Di Meola. Most of Al's work has electric eastern vibe as well.
As much as I'd like to pretend this episode never happened. This song is pretty damn badass. Even at BSG's supposed worst, it's still the best in my books. ;)
"You won't shoot. You're not like me..." Think again sucker, this is Lee Adama you're talking to... he told Lee to his face earlier he knew who he was, and who's son he was... I guess he underestimated them both and learned the hardest lesson of all...
This song is amazing, and so is this episode. Normally I don't like it when series divert from the main plot to tell random humanity lessons like this one, but I loved it this time. Nobody wins, good or evil. Kinda like the real world.
The music is excellent yeah. Should take a look just for that alone. That said, Black Market was actually one of the few sub-par episodes, despite the awesome tune.
Didn't like this theme and the episode at first. But after re-watching the episode and listening to that song a few times over I really started to like it.
The music's pretty good, but the guitar part isn't really to my taste and doesn't really fit with the show.
Then again, the episode it was in was pretty bad too. I prefer to regard it as not canon. :P
Actually, all the episodes between Epiphanies and Downloaded (Black Market, Scar, Sacrifice, Captain's Hand) were pretty mediocre. And Sacrifice especially pissed me off, because Billy deserved a better episode to die in.
awsome song. this is the song i had playing through my xbox , while i was doing the last level of halo3 on legendary for the first time.... made it so epic
For good similar music try Hanns Zimmer and sound tracks of his like "Blackhawk Down".... "Thin Red Line" ...or "The Last Samari" Then when you are ready to crank.... Metallica S& M, or really good recent stuff from Nightwish. Their new vocalist is very good. IMHO of course.
This track is different, and I like it. The whole series up to the end of 4.0 is at BlockBuster video. Most is in the one dollar area but for 4. The black man is in many movies btw. Forgot his name but he's a supporting great actor good guy or not.
Tyler Bates had something along the same lines going on the 300-soundtrack, and Brian Tyler had some nice arabian / oriental sounds on his Children of Dune soundtrack.
hey look at the bright side of that episode, it set into motion lee becoming the commander of pegasus which lead to that awesome scene where it was destroyed, as well as seeing that annoying fuck from predator die again lol.
You and me both. I feel like this episode was unfairly pegged as a bad episode by everyone when it really wasn't as terrible when a body watches is with an open mind.
Was it one of the best? Not really. But I think suggesting that it is as terrible as some people make it sound is unfair.
I agree with you, mostly. I thought it was a great episode because you saw Lee in a completely different light, he's buying hookers and committing murder... Nobody's perfect.
I love how they mix up the songs in BSG. It's absolutely great to never be treated to the same old song over and over again. In a world as small as ours we have so many different styles, I'm assuming in a world with so many planets there would be a great number of different styles.
I noticed that too, how he never really gives you the same thing over and over all the time. Granted there's a few repeats, like in the first 2 seaons when Gaias kept seeing 6, and also a common theme of the tribal drums...but still, alot of creative work!
It is different than the rest. And I think it really gives a sense of the whole "Dark side of the fleet" thing. Plus I really enjoy this sort of instrumental combination (sitars and electro-guitars). I wish the episode had done the song justice though.
Screw you all this song makes me want to kill a bunch of meatbags Cylons rule and the human infestation will be eliminated.
