this is a magnificent performance. the working class of britain had a voice in those days - be it reaggae music, ska, electronica or new wave. now we are demonised and charicatured on jeremy kyle's extreme right wing hate inducing mind control.
You must have a hole in your soul if you can't just feel the raw talent here. Doing it live too without today's "trickery" and vox synth crap so many artists RELY on for money. Kudos UB40. You really did start a revolution. x
UB40 had a very strong political message through their music when they began, their music was powerfull all throughout but they changed from all that into the business-band that sang about a glass or bottle of red wine and stuff. While they did a very classy commercial ragga-pop-like act later on they were never as good, as when they just began, again, signing off really is a masterpiece while labour of love absolutely sucks compared to it. and part II does even more so.
@rayheyheyhey Totally agree mate. UB40 were my favourite band when growing up. This early stuff was them in their element and was raw and fresh with an amazing sound and powerful lyrics. They sold out on themselves by becoming too commercial. The Labour of Love albums are great in their own way and have some truly great sing along songs on them, but they also ruined the promise of what came before. Still one of the best bands I've ever seen live though. Musically brilliant.
Una de las grandísimas canciones de UB40, en una actuación realmente memorable, digna de coleccionistas, en la que sentimos la frescura, rebeldía y fuerza artística de, por aquel entonces, un grupo mítico destinado a ser leyenda, nada más nacer. Gracias, tomtoms23 !!
to me, UB40 are my era's beatles, no other band in the 80's bought people and culture together like UB, even today you can sit out, make a nice big one and listen to them all night long
yes their early stuff was amazing compared to the onslaught of 'hymns' that they churned out later.

My biggest regret not paying £2.50 to watch them at Walsall Town Hall when they first started,
Skinheads and nf have a lot to answer for,
Skins forever,
That's what racism did for ya in the 70's early 80's,
Turned out to be one of the gratest bands.
GUTTED.

i found this song very eerie as a young boy and sometimes played it on 33, it sounded like hell on vinyl - especially that opening synth part.

Reggae, Pop, Rock, Ska...who cares ? They're all just labels invented by journalists anyway.
I'll take music over "musicology" any day.
For me this is good music. If you dont like it that doesnt make it bad.
Live and let live...
