The way Gary moves and sways with the mic at the beginning of this song is the sex! How did the USA pass up on this guy?! Why would you even want to man?
What? In lieu for the people who sang Sister Christian?! WTF??
@jrmetmoi You must remember USA. I did not pass up on him. England should have killed us where we stood when they had the chance. You guys are just too polite. But then again? USA stole the country from indigenous people? Gary, David and I speak the truth, warts and all?
What a fuckin find, fantastic performace my the numanoid. Wish there was more of this stuff, alot of his videos are very thin on the ground, I demand more.
Does anyone have a good quality audio recording of this version of I Die You Die? This version is a completely different mix to the one that finally appeared as the single.........
@GNeuman : I've never come across this audio version, either: but I will point out one thing. I remember seeing this show in April 1980, although the single itself wasn't released until August 1980 (with "we are glass" released in June), so I reckon this was just an 'unfinished master' which he did the Kenny Everett video for, before finishing it for its August release. It sounds great!
He moved like Bowie? Bowie moved liked he was trying to get rid of loose change while having an epileptic seizure. I don't think Gary looked like Bowie at all in this. Bowie was an arrogant ass...
Maybe Bowie wasn't prepared to be on the same stage with his clone.
Seriously, looks at his moves and clothes.
It screams Bowie all over the place. Bowie was smart to avoid it, it would be utterly embarrassing. He wasn't exactly diplomatic, but maybe he saved Gary Numan's career in that one move.
0:07 - 0:19 Definitely reminds me of the way Bowie sings and dances in the "Boys Keep Swinging" video, which was released one year prior to this. Although, I"ve read that Bowie hated Gary Numan, as evident in the lyrics to "Teenage Wildlife".
Yes, and the clothes are nearly identical to Bowie's in the Heroes video, recorded in 1977.
Bowie hated him because he thought Numan was plagiarizing him. But, many years later, Bowie recognized that Numan was responsible for some great moments in rock history.
I like Numan, I have his records from this period, they are good, but imo, he really was too Bowiesque in his perfomances....
I remember watching this on Kenny Everett & thinking that Gary looked superb & sounded amazing- always loved this single.

Gary somehow manages to pull off sensual, emotionless, and vaguely sinister, simultaneously. He's like a sexy android. That can kill you.

@fidgit11 Agreed! Numan is darker, sexier, more real.
Morrissey dances a bit like this (people did then) and Bowie toured with him knowing he was a fan.
BTW Moz fell out with David too.
It must be horrible to be mistreated by a guy you admire so much.
I love Numan, he fascinates me so much. And I've seen Bowie live and never been to a NUMAN concert (but hope to one day). That tells a lot IMO.

@mchelo18 Yeah you have a point I mean both of them David and Gary had their heyday in the 70s and it was too soon at the time.
jrmetmoi 1 year ago
@jrmetmoi Too soon? Really? Music still endures. Not even into the David argument yet? Bowie is whole other topic of discussion. Heyday? Really?

For 1980 Gary moved around quite a bit in this vid !! Bowie's awesome but surely he must look back with some shame at his behaviour on this day.
