I hear many people say they should be given a second chance. When are the victims going to be given parole and given a second chance.? Those monsters got life, their victims got the death penalty. The only thing that irritates the most is how come the dogs were not around on the estate, which could have easily alerted the others in the house that something is wrong on the outside and maybe could have given the chance to defend themselves to some extent. I mean I find it very mysterious that the dogs didnt bark at all due to the constant noises. And the caretaker Bill Garreston where was he? The dogs and him were there in the morning. Very fishy stuff. We will never know.

To rule Garretson out (he had claimed that he had not heard gunshots or screams), the police later did a sound experiment; they fired a gun out on the lawn near the main house, and the police in the caretaker house couldn't hear the shots.
There's nothing fishy about Garretson; the police tried everything they could to make him a viable suspect, and nothing worked.

A death sentence doesn't bring a victim back; it puts a price tag on a victim's life. If you steal from me, you must give up something yourself. In taking an innocent life, one has to, by retribution give up theirs. It;s the ultimate price. And, how is the United States a "shit hole of a country?" Please enlighten me.

it sure doescrime rate as does gun possession. i know that some people think that death sentence isnt moral but the truth is a criminal that knows he will face death if caught will think twice just the same as when he knows that the owner of the shop he is about to rob might have a shotgun. I mean there is a reason most countries had death penalty through history

@657james Um, none of these killers got the death penalty. And it's 'you're', not 'your', and 'sentence', not 'sentance'. And 'doesn't', not 'dosnt'. Not everyone in the US believes in the death penalty, and not everyone in the US is stupid. Apparently not everyone in the UK is smart, either, so think before you play the omniscient.

@657james it is unfair to blame society as a whole. imagine you being born into such society, either American or non-American, who might lack education to realize that death-sentence does not stop such things. Nor do other inhumane acts of abuse.. I don't know what can be done - you can monitor people in schools, closely monitor people that are psychotic AND have are prone to hate and anger. Before you speak, think how you can criticize constructively.

The only thing that irritates the most is how come the dogs were not around on the estate, which could have easily alerted the others in the house that something is wrong on the outside and maybe could have given the chance to defend themselves to some extent. I mean I find it very mysterious that the dogs didnt bark at all due to the constant noises. And the caretaker Bill Garreston where was he? The dogs and him were there in the morning. Very fishy stuff. We will never know.

@Scene68 The caretaker house, where Garretson was, was farther from the main house than people realize. To rule Garretson out (he had claimed that he had not heard gunshots or screams), the police later did a sound experiment; they fired a gun out on the lawn near the main house, and the police in the caretaker house couldn't hear the shots.
There's nothing fishy about Garretson; the police tried everything they could to make him a viable suspect, and nothing worked.

@Scene68 I honestly don't know. You should read Helter Skelter. (I did.) The police didn't give up on Garretson as a suspect for a long long time, and ultimately couldn't prove any involvement, dogs or otherwise, and the LAPD spent plenty on the investigation. I think you're "barking up the wrong tree" !!!

@57highland I just find it suspicious about the dogs. However yeah that would make sense as far as the distance as to why he couldn't hear anything. But he said was listening to music and if so wouldn't Patricia Kernwinkle who was told by Tex to kill anyone in the guest house would've heard music unless she did and decided not to go through with it.

@Scene68 Well, as you said, the dogs could have or should have heard. Maybe they were not an aggressive breed or maybe Garretson quieted them. I never heard of Krenwinkel being sent to the guest house (even if she didn't follow through). I should read the book again; it's been a while. But you would think, after more than 40 years, that everything has come out. If you haven't read Helter Skelter, you should. The LAPD put Garretson through the mill and couldn't connect him.

The more I learn about the Manson Family, the more I think that they were environmental terrorists. There were a lot of liberal "revolutionaries" at that time. I think they were of the same ilk sort of but more drugged out possibly. Many of the girls just seemed young and naive and Manson just seems to look at it like the "establishment" has done all this crap to everyone else, so now why can't we fight back?
