You all know that emergency landings happen a lot more often than you know. In fact you may have very well been on a plane that has declared an emergency and passengers not even know it. more than likely the gear was down and locked but a few of the multiple downlock sensors were in disagreement,so it showed an unlock indication. Usually a gear problem is a sensor. if it were truly not down and locked it is probably a hydraulic problem which the crew would see. This is not that big a deal.
I will add that emergency landings are most stressful for the pilots. but there are checklists for every scenario. weather is a much greater threat to airplanes than the systems of the plane itself.
my uncle was an american airlines pilot and flew three different Fokker F-100's and AA leased them to northwest about three months ago, but think wat u want, im not going to argue with you.
Nice flare, he floated a little :p but right on the centerline. AA pilots are among the best.

American got the F-100s in '89/'90, retired them I think around '05. I was on one in '03.

You see, having an emergency landing but not have anything happen is infinitely better than the other way around.
