Yes, the word "finis" is latin (observe the ending), meaning the end, but then again there is no such word as "land" in latin. However, both words exist in Swedish, from where the name REALLY comes. FIN means pretty, in the medieval times even beautiful, while LAND means simply land, country. I have no idea where you have heard what you just said, but it is so funny :D
