I understand many of you think I played this too fast. I think many of you need to be reminded that this piece is a toccata, not a prelude. Since I made this video years ago, I will admit now that it may be a slight bit too fast. But if played too much slower, it drags horribly and loses the drama that I feel Bach intended. I feel that the tempo I played it at is suitable.
@organboi69 It's not that the piece couldn't be enjoyed at that speed, but the musical lines cannot be perceived on that organ (or perhaps any organ) at that speed. Bach is all about structure, and if I were hearing this piece for the first time, much of that structure would remain hidden to me. But you have a lot of talent. The older you get, the more musically you tend to play. That Austin sounds nicer than the Austin in the American Fork.
In the good old days with grammophone records I often played the LPs of 45 instead of 33 rpm. I don't think this is "too fast" but either it is just me being slow, or the separation between the notes is unclear. Could simply be the sound quality.
Athough your playing is indeed flawless, it almost sounds if you've been using speed ;-) Listen to your organ and let the pipes speak.. It will sound wayyy better! Keep up the good work and stay off drugs (or the fast forward button :P )
Damn boy! Could you have played that any faster? While it was flawless - you didn't miss a single note, it was really played much too fast - an untrained ear, or even a semi-trained one would have missed half of it. Also, the recording was just a bit too loud which distorted it. However, I was amazed by your excellent pedal work. Anyway, bring it down to an Allegro instead of the Molto Vivace, turn down the volume a bit and it will be a great performance!
Nice, clean, steady, but WAY too fast, almost twice as fast as it wants to be played. Take it down 30 or 40 percent but keep it super clean and it will sound great. Organs, especially in large churches, need time for the pipes to speak. Playing super fast results in just mud. On a harpsichord in a small room you can go this fast to impress people but not on an organ. I look forward to your next attempt.
One of my fav's. Well played. I started to look at the fugue the other day, got 20 bars into it, and quit. Do you use all toe while playing Bach? (btw. this is your MySpace friend from Houston).

How can you even enjoy music at this speed? Bravo you're technically amazing....

As a teacher of mine once told me, if you're playing Bach fast just to impress people with how fast you can play then you're missing the point.

Perhaps he was just practicing, or whatever, but that was insipidly fast and emotionless.
