  • this is a mac and it is shocking that the adaptor is not recognized with the extension USB port as the guy says on 4:00 minute.. Being Apple that is shocking.

What is the name of this adaptor? do they have for PCs as well ?

  • "_PORTAPOTTY_" XD

  • The hard drive wasn't bad the enclosure was. So, you're not "attempting recovery on a failed hard drive" You're "changing a bad enclosure".

  • im building my own pc and i was going 4 a wd 750gb but now im def going to probly seagate

  • funny most hdd recovery tutorial involves western digital.

i have 2 WD's that are dead. so i started getting seagates and never looked back!

  • Great hands on demonstration on one way to recover files from a non-responsive external HD. I am in the process of basically doing the same thing, but inserting my external HD into an new inclosure.

  • my western digital 1.5tb just died :(

  • @legendarybeefcake i feel your pain man and I'm a dj!!

  • @waterpoloplyr557 , I hope you get your music back...i am trying to figure out the same =/

  • Jesus, you people are really stupid. You have a "thing" inside your head called brain. Use it for God sake.

  • Western digital, should of known

  • will this work if your hard drive is making a clicking noise? I was told that means that the disc is getting scratched....

  • what if you find out its not a problem with the enclosure..then what do we do to recover data :s

  • Hey, I have a 2.5" IDE (I think that's what it's s called) drive from a broken laptop. It doesn't have a power thing like your bigger one did. Will it work with this?

  • @Judahmangi Yup, IDE laptop drives are powered by the data connector. No molex / LP4. Good luck.

  • thank you it was my power supply I feel like an idiot even thou the light was still on you saved me 1000 bucks back up all your data :)

  • Cool - I just bought a Universal Adapter. The USB 2.0 was sold out, but they now have a USB 3.0 version. It cost me $46.69AU and that includes postage.

    Thanks :)

  • How would I be able to open a WD portable External hard drive (passport)

  • If your external hard drive stops working like in the vid, is it more likely for the casing bit to be faulty or is it more likely for it to be the external hard drive itself? Please answer, I have this problem :(

  • plz tell me again where i can buy one of these and a web site would be cool thank you

  • where do u get all tat equpiment frm!!!! ur need tat 2 recover it??

  • Damn I wish I'd found out about this vid sooner, I'm pretty sure this is what Geek Squad's "Level 2 Recovery" is (Only since they're Geek Squad, they get to charge $500 for it. They've still got my dead drive I'm gonna see if I can just cancel the service and do it myself...it'll cost me $30 for the adapter and ten minutes of my time lol. if this doesn't work, I'll save up the $1,500 and send i back in for "Level 3 Recovery". nice vid, thanx.

  • How do you get the data from it if its dead?

  • The kit is a Newer Technology Universal Drive Adapter - priced around $30 if anyone is wondering

  • Can this cable recover a Hitachi T1 external hard drive with a bad controller?

  • Dude please help me to recover my data before i send my Seagate to repair, in the last months i heard several clicking sounds and there where some times that the hard drive just stop the transfer it wouldn't just cllose ;/ can you describe this tool that aloud you to have acces to your external hard drive?

My Seagate is the Freeagent Extreme with 2 TB and i still have the guarranty untill 2015...but my data is more important than the drive itself...all my projects and man i dont want to lose it

  • my external hard drive has the so called click of death will this adapter work to recover my files?

  • mine too can i use this device to recover my files in my External hard drive =[

and where can i buy this?

  • @hansel027 Amazon have it.

  • I understand it completely. Where did you get your kit and how much.

  • what stupid video !! how the f! u recover it ? ! damm

  • @iQuicktime By following the process he said? A lot of external harddrive problems come down to the case being damaged, and not the harddrive itself. The steps to resolve this is shown in the video...

This doesn't "fix" your hard drive, only access to the data (i.e. data recover).

  • You haven't told us anything!!!

  • @Reedy297

Step 1. Buy this external SATA/IDE USB adapter.

Step 2. Take the Hard drive out of the external enclosure whatever brand it is (Lacie, WD, Seagate) and keep the bare Hard drive in front of you (Mine

Step 3. Connect everything together (SATA Power Cable to Power Adapter: USB cable to SATA port of the HD).

Step 4. Plug in the USB cable into your computer.

That's what he does in the video. If you have done Step 1, just going through the box would help you understand.

  • @shaazy

    thank you.

  • How can you tell that you can't recover your external hardrive.
