  • my friend has a chipped b16a with headers and a pulley,straight 3 inch exhaust and its way faser than this crx,aind its way faster than a stock 5.0,he keeps up with my 5.0 which has pulleys and 373 rear gears,and a intake so tht crx in this video is fairly slow if a 5.0 can keep up by half a car length,or maybe you lost traction because you shoulda smoked him

  • @94z28derk He probably feels great, especially since the B16 is a 20+ year old motor. The 5.0 and the B16 are from the same era. Honda first put B16s in 1988 CRX Si-Rs in Japan. Simply put, that 4 banger can rock with V8s from the same era. Not Honda's fault that Ford put the 5.slow in the Fox body.

    The heads on that stock 5.0 are frm the 70s.. So it isnt really the same. The heads were meant to be on a Truck.. Put a GT40 head and better gears and say goodbye...

Give the four banger credit for being in the same league of an American V8 which dominated the streets in the late 80s/early 90s. The USA could never have built an all motor four cylinder setup to run with a Japanese performance 8 cylinder. Since this CRX is a mock of the JDM CRX SiR (B16a), its pretty much stock VS stock.

  • The crx weighs approx 2300lb with 160hp vs 3300lb with 225hp (both stock pwr)

    Crx power to weight =14.37

    Muzzy power to weight = 14.66

    So power to weight is slighly in favour of the crx - along with less drivetrain losses and a smaller frontal area hence a better drag coefficient. As a stock crx runs around mid 15s , The Mustang would run closer to a high 15.

  • Import you obviously know your stuff as you seem to had the info above right. People always laugh at the torque of these motors, but thats just it, you dont need crazy amounts of torque in a sub 2000 lb. car thats when you get severe wheel hop, traction issues among other things, and no offense to the foxbody those old 5.0L really are something else, they are dangerous cars even with some simple high quality bolt ons. I considered one before buying my nissan, they are easy to work on (5.0L)

    Those old Mustangs are very lucky to manage a high 15 with all 220hp of it's muscle. Typically a factory Crx runs mid to low 15's. Either way a crx is going to beat a stock mustang no question about it.

  • Not to be rude but get you're facts straight. 87-93 ran a mid 14's stock bone stock. With the crappy ass heads and intake Ford put on them really chokes them down.

  • @ThunderMonarch From what I've experienced, they are mid 14 to low 15 stock, so I agree with you there. I also agree the stock heads, intake, and the cam suck.. A good head/cam/intake on a 5.0 will net you over 300whp.

    The 3rd gen mustangs( fox body) using the Ford 302 windsor engine produced 157hp in 1982 for the GT model , 175hp in 1983 , 200hp in 1986 ford first went to multiport fuel injection, 1987 power jumped to 225hp with the new E7 heads. In 1993 the Ford mustang SVT made 235hp and could manage a high 14.

    The one in the race is a 1990 and if its stock will be making about 205hp which equates to a 15 sec car pretty much like the crx is stock. 14s would be with basic bolt ons.

  • After 20 seconds of full throttle, why does it look like they're only going 90 mph? A bolt-on 5.0 should be doing 115-120 mph by then, and probably the same for a B16A swapped CRX.

I easily beat an Integra Type R 200 hp from a stop light and from an 80 mph roll to 130 mph on the highway a while back when my Stang was running high 14s. Don't get cocky unless you're ready to beat a 347 or 351W powered fox. Stock 302s are daily drivers, not race cars. A stock 302 fox with 14 psi can hit 10s @ 125 mph with tires, so be careful what you say. I used to hang out at the illegals with the fox body guys and holllly shiiit.

  • 600 hp crx would definately run with an 800 hp mustang. but fully built honda, i've seen no more than 700 hp for a street car. fully built mustang i've seen 1100 hp to the wheels that are street cars. no way in hell a 700 hp honda will run with an 1100 hp mustang or any other rwd car with that much power. with that much hp, weight isnt a very big issue. also the front wheel drive doesnt help with traction either.

  • Trust me, it doesn't make 900 hp. People love to throw around numbers. At the end of the day, about .01% of Hondas on the road today run faster than 13.5 w/o turbo, and about 20% of Mustangs on the road run 12s or faster. Mustangs are a way better route to go for a performance car, and people figure that out as they age and mature, which is why older wealthy guys drive GT500s and vintage stangs and wouldn't be caught dead in a CRX.

  • True. Stock for stock, it is no doubt way easier to turn a V8 into a 12-second car. 5.0 Mustang, 2500. Couple of mods over a weekend, and you have a 12 second car without even altering the engine itself.

  • Way cheaper to make fast? I tried looking for a Civic with a B16 swap on craigslist. Even the ones in bad condition with different colored body panels were listed for at least $4,000. I can pick up a 5.0 Stang for $1,500, do a cheap rebuild on the motor, throw a turbo kit and slicks on it and run 10s @ 130 mph lol. The Hondas scene is more popular for teenage kids. People over 20 especially closer to 30 don't bother with that stuff anymore.

  • dude im buying a civic on craigslist for 2500 that has a b16 with loads of engine mods. full suspension, rims, tires, sway bars and exaust. if you dont believe me i can post the craigslist address on here for you. the honda scene isnt popular with older people over 30 because they grew up with hondas. no one knew then about engine swaps and the possibilities you can have with a honda. the honda scene continues to grow MASSIVELY each year. dont kid yourself.

  • I won't kid myself. The vast majority of the Honda scene are fag-ass kids with 1988 Civics that they add a coffee can muffler to and race around town with. Very few actually have anything worthwhile. Even a turbo single cam EG hatch( in my videos) can't pull down as good of times as my low compression bolt-on 5.0. I beat my friend's '08 SI with I/H/E/Hondata and 8900 rpm, I beat my friend's '94 coupe B16 swap, i've beaten a Teg type R easily. No thanks, i'd rather keep my Mustang.

  • dude a single cam blows. you turbo a b series with vtec and all you need is 10 psi to get 300hp. what more could you want. a single cam with 10 psi makes a bit more than 200hp. 300hp in a honda beats just about anything you see goin down the road.

  • Maybe so. Too bad I never see any turbo Hondas lol. I live in Phoenix, AZ with a population of over 3,000,000 (three million) and if I come across a turbo Honda I am thoroughly shocked. Once in a blue moon there's one and even then it's never a Vtec, always single cam, so again, I don't have a problem squashing any Hondas I come across.

Honda has 3.2L engines that certainly don't produce 320 hp, so a Honda 5.0L engine would probably wind up being about the same as Ford's 400 hp 5.0L "Coyote" V8 that is currently under construction. How much power did a Honda 1.6 or 1.8 liter engine make in the 1980s? That's a more fair comparison.

  • well in 1988 you had 160 hp from the b16a and in 1989- 90 185 hp from b16 b so not that bad for a 4 pot, 96 98 jdm b18 200 hp oh and dont forget the 1990 2.9 nsx 278hp , 0 - 60 mph in 5.5 second, 170mph, and as you can see the technology was first put into road cars in 1988 after being in honda motorbikes since 1983 not that new

  • The B16B Type R motor making 185 hp was in the late '90s, not late '80s. Everything you mentioned is Japanese spec. Since there are no Japanese spec 5.0 liters, let's keep it American. By 1987 the 5.0 was already making 225 hp with wheezy heads and whimpy tuning. The American spec B16A didn't come around till '99 and was making 160 hp with high compression, 4 valves per cylinder, Vtec etc etc etc. I like Honda stuff but don't discredit the 5.0. It's extremely popular for a reason.

  • 15-16? Last time I was at the drags, a turbo single cam EG hatch was barely in the 14s, like 14.9 all night. The RSX-S that was there didn't even get a 15 second run, it was low 16s @ 90 all night for him. Call a 5.0 slow if you want but mine has done 13.60s for a whopping $3,000. I beat a stripped EG hatch with a LS non-Vtec, cams, intake, exhaust, and a 50 shot SPRAYING on a money race, and I continue to chomp up LS Vtecs, B20 Vtecs, B16s, etc even it DXs, so you can suck it.

  • I drive a Mustang and one of the things that pisses me off the most is other Mustang drivers. The reason Mustangs get chomped up by slow cars often is because they have high miles, are way out of tune, beat the hell out of, automatic or manual with a HORRIBLE idiot driver, etc. I beat other Mustangs by bus lengths all the time. Come up against someone like me who can drive well and whos car is in decent shape and has a decent tune and it's a different story.

  • No, '94 - '98 fourth gen Mustangs with the late 5.0 or early 4.6 are slow. The fox bodie 5.0s are much quicker. And no, your D16 is slow. I have plenty of friends with Hondas, one of them has a '94 Civic coupe that had a Y8. He had the same mods as you and his car was partially stripped, and it was slow, not even close to a stock automatic 5.0. It's got an LS non-vtec now with I/H/E/ecu and still isn't quick. My other friend's '94 coupe with a B16A2 swap was a good race for a stock 5.0.

  • Most of the 5.0s around are owned by idiots who can't take care of their car let alone drive well, the cars themselves have TONS of miles on them (people actually buy these cars used and start modding with 200,000 miles already on the clock). My old whimpy '82 5.0 eats so many 5.0s it's ridiculous, even ones that should blow my doors off (beat one with a '95 Cobra motor AND a cam, headers, etc by like 6 cars). You just haven't come across a good-running 5.0 with a competent driver.

  • My crx has a b16a swap with headers, 2.5 inch exhaust, p28 ecu,msd ignition, and intake and I kill 5.0's all day long. Big difference in power to weight ratio. A crx that weighs 1800lbs with 200 hp compared to a stang that weighs at least 2800lbs with 225 hp. do the math. If that crx is done right it'll run 12's easy.

  • I have a Stock B16A in a CRX all Obd-1 and i kill mustangs all day everyday. Just cuz u got 8 cylinders doesnt mean ur quick. And sohc are quick too. Dont underestimate them.

  • I own a 1990 Mustang GT and I have spent less than 1000 dollars on modifications and I run 13's. I personally have no problem with Hondas, and in this cause the Honda won. Credit where credit is due. Either way, both cars are good for speed on a budget. Just because the Honda won, I don't see why that makes the Mustang a "POS."

  • the crx has only a 1.6L DOHC VTEC(160hp)...no supercharger!!...A mustang gt with 100hp of NOS will go high 12s....not 11s...i did 14.62@97mph with a tank full of gaz and no good tires...2.4 of 60 feet!

  • wow thats pretty fast for a stock b16 in a crx...i have a 98 jdm ITR motor in an EG and i only hit a 14.3@ 99mph with a 2.4 60foot time also lol. crx is much lighter also tho

  • You sure you've got n integra TYPE R motor, and not just one of the shitty integra 1.8's? I've done low 14's in my near stock eg b16...

  • is that low 14s with slicks? cuz ive done 13.2 with slicks also...but street tires... youre not gonna get much traction...when my vtec kicks the tires break loose...and thats with falken azenis tires

  • It might have just been a very sticky strip, it was quite late on in the day afer a lot of runs... Still, I would have expected it to be a but quicker, but hey!

  • ...exactly how much juice are we talking about?? and with a ford...are you only gonna hit 11's one time...before its to the junk yard?? hehe.. i doubt you can hit 11s with 100 shot and nos...hitting 11s is harder then that...trust me..i know from experience.

  • this is some ol bullshit, in real life no one will spend 10+grand to make a fucking 106hp car run worth a damn. Give a 5.0 the juice bottle(about 200bucks all together) and you have a 11.5s (1/4 mile) street car. Imma call uncle ben and tell him stop making that supercharged rice.
