The last time I flew was in 1974! I've been lucky and never in a hurry; I love the Amtrak trains, which are almost always late, but who cares! You get to sit while you wait. The lines, the food (tiny snacks), and the seats are some of the reasons I don't fly. I really got a kick out of hearing about having to use a certain size of baggies to carry things like shampoo,etc. It cracks me up that more people don't get upset about it like you apparently are. Today people just go along with anything.

Today we have self check-in services that allows you to print out your boarding card in your home and proceed directly to your gate at the airport.
