  • my skates are have a very strang blade they have 7 big toe picks there for salcows are harder lol:)

  • just call it fakie 360 or backward 360 and everybody know what it is nancy

jesus doit like nancy did it "stan nacy was second":-)

  • i hate the salchow jump =-=

  • is that double or single? just askin'

  • i'm starting do to sachow jump! I love it!

  • melanniefreya....your right. the rotation doesn't actually begin until your facing forward. The single salchow is not a full one revolution jump. In fact, its about 3/4. Take a really good look at this clip again. Hope you get. Good luck.

  • thksss

  • I need help I have to do tht for my skating lesson when ur leg swings round after the free turn do u turn with u leg swinging so faceing forward then jump or just swing leg round no turn and jump

  • @melanniefreya after you swing your leg, it brings you into the air. no turn on ice.

  • i like that outfit :)

  • Awwh, When I did this I thought I was amazing at it and I watched this and realised I didn't even lift of the floor...

  • will speed help me doing the salchow good ?

  • skating backwards because..?! ^

  • While it's a pretty good reminder, it only works for right handed skaters. Lefties would have to think 9, 12, 3.

  • I want try it!!! lol cool!

  • before jumping they concentrate on figures/footwork, competitions were very different I believe

  • So what did they do before the Salchow... what was the most difficult jump before it and when was the Salchow first done?

  • @RobertKlayton the most difficult jump before the salchow is the waltz/three jump, wich is basically a half axel. this comes after the bunny hops, tap toe jumps, the ballet jumps and the mazurka.

  • I can't understand any of the explanations for any of the jumps.

  • nice crossovers but i dident like the salcow for some reason soz ;p

  • @mysterio818181 can i make a guess - her arms, she sort of goes weeee wiv her arms...i've been taught to hold a strong check position on 2sal, still its better than mine, but thats just what i noticed :)

  • For beginners a better video is watch?v=qI5BnNkwFnE. Explains it really well.

  • when you start the salchow, do you have to spin from forward to backward and then jump?

because the way i do it is just jump because i'm already backwards......

  • my coach said...

    forwards,backwards, half-forward and then jump

  • you skate backwards then u kind of step into a 3turn and then u jump :] so the jump is fomr forawrds i guess :]

  • Yeah, the salchow is made with that turn (they probably call it 3turn, I dont know the english name)

  • it helps to turn first because then you get more momentum, so it's easier + are you still taking off from one foot because if you take off from both then its probably more or less a loop jump which is actually harder. but don't take my word about it being a loop because i don't know exactly what you mean. why don't you ask your coach ( or someone very good at ice skating ) for help?

  • one main question i've been thinking about..... before jumping off the take-off leg, can the free leg touch the ice????

  • No ... normally not !!!

  • ok thnks

  • You may notice that Nancy Kerrigan does touch the ice. This is because she would normally only do double or triple salchow so the habit is ingrained. For a single salchow you shouldn't need to assist the jump with the free toe.

  • Thank you - actually had a lesson today and managed to do one and landed ok too (just stopped), I found I was jumping late as you said but also not leaning enough to the left. My spins are getting better - I just need to pull up quicker :-)

  • love jumps compared to spins - spins are so hard i have been working for months and ive only managed to get like an alright looking one - grrrr....

  • me to. But i love spins to. i love jumps, i just love it all.

  • I can't do the salchow yet - its really hard :-(

  • it's all about the timing - i found it really tricky until my coach gave me the timing like once you see the clock jump straight away because i was jumping too late and it was just plain messy so try and work on the timing - once i got that it was easy! :)

  • mine is so small I didnt know it was supposed to be that big mine ARE TINYYY!

  • it is.But as a tip to help prepare for the future, ur 3 turn is everything for the entrance. Work on holding the backwards edge after the 3turn. Then work on brinign ur free leg around low to the ground to the front do not attempt to jump, just helps me with the positioning. It takes a while atleast for me to get some spead with it.

  • Wait until you get to the flip. Lutzes and axels are crazy..... I haven't ever learned them. I would have, but our ice rink closed and the nearest one is too far and col for my mom. Make sure you go back on the Salchow. I know I used to turn so much befores the jump I would almost make a U-turn and spin in a circle.

  • naaa...axel isn't so crazy...but lutz is a curse! ^^

  • nice i just got my double salchow today!

  • i hate double toe grrr!!

    lol!!

  • was a doble salchow?

  • i hate salchow the most!

  • samee e

  • I <3 all jumps^ ^

  • thats a DOUBLE salcow

  • i find it reli hard to keep my free leg back in the 3 turn =s its reli annoying

but im gona remember that for my next lesson =)

  • thanks a lot, thas was so helfully for me; tihs is my favorite jump and i´m looking for a double salchow. any special advise?

    thanks you!!!

  • wow that's true too:) my favorite jump that i do all the time is the triple lutz.

  • Thanks a lot! That has been a very useful advice :) !!!

  • wow that looks hard, theres no toepick, right now i think im gonna focus on teaching myself the toe loop then ill try this lol

  • My favorite jump was the flip when I was skating for that very reason. I'm 43 and just starting skating again - no jumps yet, but I walked myself through the salchow on the ice. I'm going to conquer that jump yet!

  • iv just learned how to do a salchow,

its my favourite jump so far (:

  • My Coach Told Me This Years Ago

  • "This is something I use all the time for many years." I think her teeth get in the way of her words sometimes.

  • Hate the salchow! Love te toeloop<3

  • i do too! =]

  • omg, i hate double toes !! i hate jumps with the toe in, love the edge jumps.

    :P

i think for me toe jumps are awkward !!

  • LOL really? i love all jumps except the sal. idk why. the sal is just totally weird. HAHA

  • oops. the daydream account was my sisters. sorry.

i love all jumps but sals. HAHA

  • I'm the opposite!

Love toe jumps, hate edge jumps

  • salchows are my favorite jumps

  • you can you really learn from these things? She makes it look so easy :) I know it is hard though...

  • Why did my coach showed me to jump with only one foot? why does she use both feet, the right one touches the ice, I dont usually do that

  • Me too...????

  • The one that your coach showed you was probably a Loop Salchow composition.

  • It's just a 'touch' - but not 'using both feet'. The closer right foot to the ice, the better jump. So, don't pay much attention to that touch, it's normal.

  • thank you. Ill try it.

  • is that a sungle sal she did in the begging

  • it was a double

  • I'm going to try a salcow I was 100% sure how to land it but now I am going to work on it and put it in one of my programs!

  • eeeezyyy

  • oooooo yeah make than a video about you doing a salchcow !

  • she 's wonderful

  • i love it it made it easier for medo do the salcow i love it is awsome

  • it is! omg i love it too

  • cool that is awsome

  • Do you have any more of these?

  • If you type in "ABC Ice Moves" then it should come up with a lot of videos that are similar to this.
