I recently went through one of these points in my life. After living with an endless amount of drama for more than six months, I made a promise to myself that after I moved to Texas (which I now have,) I wouldn't deal with drama anymore. So far, it's been working out.

We have always been close, she was their for me when my mom got sick and I was their for her through issues with her son(and many other things). Sorry i cannot agree with this. You don't just drop friends because they are downers or because "you have changed". People go through ups and downs friends don't drop you when you are down. Abuse is another story but sometimes your friends tell you the truth weather its good or bad? Funny now Bscot you are doing so well...now you cannot be around certain people? Your friends are not always gonna be happy go lucky and positive...thats life people go through things you don't just abandon them..
I think you misunderstood his message. B. Scott isn't talking about abandoning friends. He's talking about letting go of those who never were your friends. And he's certainly not talking about dropping objective, realistic friends who can keep you grounded. I'm sure B. would be the first to support a friend in a bad place.
What he is saying is that you shouldn't feel obligated to stay around people who are constantly trying to tear you down.
I don't think the point of the post was to drop friends who are going through a valley aka. an issue that has them down for the moment... I think the focus is on people that purposely bring you down. A good friend knows the difference between a friend who is down and a friend who wants to remain in a state of indifference or stagnation. People progress at different levels and some will not progress at all. Some friends are forever and some are seasonal. That's just life.

I recently went through one of these points in my life. After living with an endless amount of drama for more than six months, I made a promise to myself that after I moved to Texas (which I now have,) I wouldn't deal with drama anymore. So far, it's been working out.
Like you said, B--you get to a point where enough is enough. Staying positive and looking to the future is some of the best medicine out there.

You are soo right B!!! I recently ended a long term relationship with a man I was with for 10 yrs! (I'm 29 so not that old,lol!) But I realized that this man wanted nothing more than to bring me down & keep me beneath him! When I started getting myself together, he really laid it on thick & tried to make me feel bad about trying to come up!! Chal!! I knew then that the only way I could keep up was to kick him to the curb! Thank you for the post B!! And much success in your media ventures!!

Hey B. Scott I can relate and I can understand where Lancey71 is coming from. However, I recently have been dealing with such an issue with a close family member. We have always been close, she was their for me when my mom got sick and I was their for her through issues with her son(and many other things). However, she is almost 10 yrs my senior and I just feel like were sooo different. I care for her deeply but kinda don't want to hang as much as her. Is that so wrong?

Make sure that you are "cutting" people out your life for the right reason.
Also, don't get so "full of self" that you forget that you were once that "friend" who was striving to reach your goal and I'm sure others weren't so quick to dump you to the side so, don't be so judgemental of people when they don't dance to your beat.

Sorry i cannot agree with this. You don't just drop friends because they are downers or because "you have changed". People go through ups and downs friends don't drop you when you are down. Abuse is another story but sometimes your friends tell you the truth weather its good or bad? Funny now Bscot you are doing so well...now you cannot be around certain people? Your friends are not always gonna be happy go lucky and positive...thats life people go through things you don't just abandon them..

I think you misunderstood his message. B. Scott isn't talking about abandoning friends. He's talking about letting go of those who never were your friends. And he's certainly not talking about dropping objective, realistic friends who can keep you grounded. I'm sure B. would be the first to support a friend in a bad place.
What he is saying is that you shouldn't feel obligated to stay around people who are constantly trying to tear you down.

I don't think the point of the post was to drop friends who are going through a valley aka. an issue that has them down for the moment... I think the focus is on people that purposely bring you down. A good friend knows the difference between a friend who is down and a friend who wants to remain in a state of indifference or stagnation. People progress at different levels and some will not progress at all. Some friends are forever and some are seasonal. That's just life.

Im gonna assume you said this with only the best and most positive of intentions--but if you consider someone a friend and you both were at a low point at some part of your life and then one happens to come up--why not try to help bring the other person up as best you can instead of just cutting them off??? When you are truly happy NO ONE can steal your joy--so you could be around anyone and be a positive light amongst their darkness and their negativity would have no effect on you.
