u guys dont get it.south korea WANTS to reunify with the north. its just that the north is very indifferent to it and they have HUGE ASS china watching over them. sadly, korea is still a very small country compared to china. china is powerful with great economic power. its hard for a small country to make these HUGEE decisions that r against a big country. also, one country's decision affects the others..which can start another world war.
but i agree..Korea should just do it anyway! no bomb? :(
North Korea is doing a fantastic job of rendering themselves to nothing more of a space filler between China and South Korea. Also the chinese would certainly welcome South Korean investment.
S.Korea hate Japan. It's true. But if it's neccesary to make a choice between PRC an Japan, S.Korea will choose Japan. It's the true and it can be seen at present
@IDCbitchass Imma make this brief. South korea is a very powerful nation military and economy wise. If south korea unites with the north, North Korea will provide the south of abundance of natural resources and with their cheap labour, South can mass produce high quality goods. China will be Korea's biggest competitor. Also, a united korea would mean a strong korea, especially militarily. If North and south unite, their military power will make up all the military in europe put together
@Phead128 We wouldn't use the military on anyone but to defend our country and to maintain our borders. That will be the primary use of the military. The military will only spring into action when invaded, or when foreign assistance is need for example through the UN, or through alliances.
@IDCbitchass Also, you gotta understand that China, Japan and korea hate each other, and they do not wanna have a strong neighbour. Also, China likes to use North korea as a buffer against the western ideology and not only that, I believe like china did with tibet, that once North korea falls (lets say the leader dies or something like that happen), china will take over north Korea. The usa does not want a strong korea either and the main reason they want us divided is so that they can influenc
You do not understand the Chinese mind on this issue. Outright annexation is reminiscent of Japanese colonialism, and China would rather be on Korea's side on this issue, and not experience the backlash of fervent Korean nationalism.
China is most willing to permit a strong, independent, Chinese allied Korea that is a buffer state against re-militarization of Japan, which is guaranteed after US leaves East Asia. It's only a matter of time before Korea is reunited.
@Phead128 The Usa will never leave their presence in korea. Once a country establishes their base, they will keep it there for their sphere of influence and to use it for their strategic advantages for something like war. And u may be true on that too, but u also gotta understand that once korea is united, we will become the current day china, except mass producing high quality goods, and korea will be china's biggest economic competitor. And i just think that china will see Korea as a threat
The future of Korea has already been negotiated by the Americans and Chinese behind Korea's back.
US cannot afford to finance military bases on China's wallet, and US won't lose-face if Korea becomes Communist, so it's already been decided.....
Japan will re-militarized when US leaves East Asia, and China will permit Seoul to take over Pyongyang, and Korea will become a buffer state against re-militarized Japan after US leaves East Asia.
@Phead128 And china doesnt need to worry about japan building up their military because of World War 2 and the American presence in japan and the treaty they signed
The only reason why China will allow Seoul to take over is because North Korea becomes obsolete after US excessive indebtedness (to China out of all nations...), slow economic growth, and unmanagable overseas commitments cause US military withdrawal from East Asia, permitting Japan to re-militarize.
Since Japanese militarism has historically been a common threat to both China & Korea, China would literally bestow Pyongyang to create a United Korea as a buffer state against Japan.
@Phead128 Lol, there is really no answer to this for this a very broad and controvercial issue. You and i have both very good facts and background on this, but who really knows what the government of china is thinking and who really knows what the future of Japan will be. Idk :). I know for sure that US dont want a unified korea, after all, the USSR and them were the ones who split korea up after japanese occupation.,
The only bigger threat to China after US leaves East Asia is a re-militarized Japan, and both China and Korea hates Japan, so that is the only reason why China would drop obsolete anti-US buffer state (North Korea) to allow for a strong, prosperous country to balance a re-militarized Japan.
China wants a Korea that can stand up to Japan, that is why US leaving East Asia is so important, because it will facilitate a Seoul-led united Korea that will be friendly to China.
US wanted more client states, that's why it divided Korea. The only reason why US lacks the will to ensure 100% complete reunification is because the belligerence of North Korea is a useful tool to justify continue US presence on the peninsula.
If push comes to shove, China would easily kick US out of the peninsula, US knows this, and that's why it prefers the status quo.
Basically, the future of Korea that is friendly to China is very bright, because China will ensure Korea becomes a prosperous nation that will make the youngest brother in the East Asian hierarchical family (Japan) look weak in comparison.
You thought a future under US was bright, wait till what China will help Korea become in the future.
@IDCbitchass is so that they can influence us and have their army stationed there. In 1945, when korea became independent from Japan's colonial rule, it was the USA and the USSR that split the korea into two.
the problem is US, if the reunification occured, their troops have to at least withdraw form kroea, then the whole deployment plan in asian area need to be change accordingly. that is the thing US do not want it to happen.
Only 28 thousands troops is not a significant number (in term of army size) however, they do have access to the most advance weaponry that is available at their disposal. Therefore I think China definitely do not want the U.S. troops any closer than they already are.

Did you know, NATO's first Secretary General said NATO's purpose was to "Keep Russians out, Germans down, and Americans in."
Of course, U.S. anti-Communist crusade in Asia is to "Keep Chinese/Russians out, Koreans/Japanese/Vietnamese down, and Americans in."
It's still really retarded how Koreans are divided today. Only Koreans themselves don't think so.

US troops will have to retreat back to Japan.
Korea must be leaning towards China to form a China-Korea block against the US-Japan bloc.
That is China's strategic view. Not some "refugee" or "buffer state" bullshit from 1950's.
We're talking about the same strategy that the Ming and Qing dynasty used for the Chosun dynasty (aka. Dominion of China)
