  • I am 22 and I have polio that has left my left leg paralyze. I was born in rural China where there was no vaccine. I am happy that people are doing their best to prevent others from suffering this disease.

  • This is a very important docu film that educates and save many lives around the world...

  • Superb documentary! Two huge thumbs up.

  • dude haha this is a great doc and a very serious and sad issue, but when i heard him say his name i had to replay it to see if i heard right. haha i couldnt help but laugh

  • Why is the link on IGoogle a private video? Am I missing something?

  • Good Job Irene!!!

Trying to fwd this to Granny and can't.

Your "family" at Browncroft Baptist Church!!

  • Why is it that suddenly, all these movies are being made to showcase India's poverty? and are then nominated at foreign festivals and awards? Poverty, gender/caste/religion discrimination, corruption, all have effected india for a long time. And this effects every country.

Smile Pinki/Slumdog/Final inch all are based on poverty/all are made by foreigners/ and all made it through the oscars. Why?

Indians have made similar movies (many better than slumdog), Why aren't they appreciated?

  • Well I think its because Indian movies do not get much recognition in foreign festivals/awards. It is unfortunate that the movies made by others focus on poverty - probably because that is what interests the rest of the world right now - but it's probably better than nothing. At least this way India gets some recognition and the positive side has to come out sometime.

  • in my opinion......lagaan and rang de basanti(not even nominated) were much better than slumdog....

y didnt it win in d oscars??

nd frget abt winning, taare zameen par ws not even nominated! y..??

  • Okay, fictional movies like Slumdog aside, I can't really understand why someone would take issue with a documentary on polio, which will most definitely raise awareness and increase efforts all over the world to finally eradicate it.

In this case, who cares if it takes a western-made documentary to raise awareness, or if other movies might have been there already? Should more lives be sacrificed to uphold someone's national pride?

  • You've missed the point. The documentary is about fighting polio at an unprecedented scale in poverty stricken areas. In India, such areas exist and if it ashames some they must take lead to fix it.

  • Well, why dont you name me a country where there is no poverty? where there are no slums?

I can make a similar movie on a different disease on the low areas of New York and come up with similar images of what these movies show.

Its not about being ashamed, such things are found in every country, but if a make a similar movie in NY, Americans will get mad and say its not the truth. It goes either ways. I agree things in India are not as good as the US, but no where close to what Slumdog showed

  • I'd watch any movie that is entertaining, has a good script and deals with issues in the society; be it Mumbai or New York. If you say you can potentially make a similar movie on NY please do so.

  • PassionateIndia: Children forced into sexslavery and childlabor, isn´t that as bad as Slumdog shows?

Face it, that there are huge gaps between people in India. Some are very rich and many are very poor.

It´s not about shaming anyone, it´s about helping those people who need a better start in life and yes, that help is needed to different extent in every country.

  • Whats to face? We know that there is sex slavery in India, isnt that in the US aswell???

There is childlabour also, and unfortunately a lot of childlabour.

There are gaps between the rich and the poor in India, but they are in every country, but we have bigger gaps, i lived in India almost all my life, and a few things in slumdog are totally wrong.

Westerners feel that India is full of rapists, druglords, gangsters, fanatic hindus, women traffickers, po*n kings and child abusers. Is it true ??

  • It's not about being ashamed. It's about the fact that almost every foreign made movie/ documentary highlights India's poverty and these movies/ documentaries win awards: eg. 'Slumdog Millionare' whereas there are many similar Indian movies such as 'Taare Zameen Par' , 'Rang De Basanti' etc. which aren't recognized by the western world. This strongly suggests that westerners look down upon India and on top of that use India as a theme for poverty in their movies, make money and receive awards.

  • I don't think westerners look down upon India. But, they are surprised and repelled to see the slums & poverty that exist in open in present day India. Poverty in India is as real as India's new growth story.

If Indian filmmakers can make movies that deal with difficult issues in other countries for a global audience, I'm sure they'll be well received. So far, I believe, many Indian movies are made for a local audience and an Indian diaspora.

  • Thank you for making this documentary. Congrats on the Oscar nomination, that is how I found out about it. Looking forward to purchasing this when it comes out on DVD.

With the recent $355 million in challenge grants received by Rotary International from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (which means Rotary is committed to contributing another $200 million), hopefully this disease will be eradicated from the world in the very near future.

  • Just another westerner trying to "steal" polio from India. We like our polio and we shall have it, dammit. Don't be coming here trying to brainwash us

into thinking polio is bad. Long live Gandhi!!

  • Did anyone hear what that guy's name sounded like @ 1:03

  • aww the poor children.........

these types of things should not happen, I mean, the human civilization has come so far, yet these things still seem to happen, but I can also see how ignorance and refusal can play a factor

  • I really like the trailer, if someone knows where I can watch the full movie in germany, plz let me know!

  • There is nothing wrong in the aggressive behaviour of the people like the one wanting to know who is going to clean up my filth and the old respectable baba jee, who wanted to know the formula of the vaccine, because he feels a slow sterilizing solution is being given.

  • The message given is loud and clear enough to understand that the problem is not with the disease but with the people understanding.

Really, appreciate for the team for this documentary.

    congrats for oscar nomination...

keep the pace up in eradicating this disease..

  • Thank you people like Munzareen, Dr Ashfaz Ahmed, Dr Hamid Jafari, Dr. Ubale Usha, and hundreds of others field workers. God bless you and all my countrymen.

  • thanks a lot mate for your comments

    Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed

  • Great!!!

  • There is somewhere a communication gap that is causing this trouble and misunderstanding. These men are the ones who would like to be the leader of their community without realizing the extent of damage being caused because of their behaviour. These people, I know very closely are in need of special attention and would be not difficult to manage if they are dealt with proper knowledge and respect. This is just an EGO FACTOR.

  • Muslim priests are bane of this country. see how that virulent mullah opposes polio who has no knowledge of science or medicine

  • Congratulations on your Oscar nomination! The film looks wonderful! Where can I watch the full film?
