Well, I don't know any of the Pope's issues. I'm not catholic so I don't particularly care. I'd call myself non-denominational but not in the traditional sense of the word. I believe that we cannot judge other religions because there is no way to know for sure who is right and who is wrong.

I think the violence that sprouts out of the Middle East is based off of the way many of them are raised. A lot of the incidents that are getting news coverage don't really have anything to do with the Muslims being unwilling to share their "holy land." Yes, the Crusades and some of the violence going on now are similar. But, not all of these suicide bombers and terrorists are killing people to protect their land.
