Eden is good(as all of the Elphabas are)...but not good enough for anyone to reference Idina in a negative way. I know a little bit about singing and 1:12 - 1:24 is pitchy and tight. Besides that, Idina was the first Elphaba. So, for her, it wasnt a contest she took alot of the phrases and lines up in this song when she got the role. I really liked how Idina acted and sang the role of Elphaba, but I agree with you. The role has to evolve over time, and adding riffs here and there is not a bad thing for that very reason!

I can actually compare the acting, and some do better than the last (and so on.) But seeing as I have never seen a show, only clips here and there, if they were all like Idina (or all like Kerry, etc.) I wouldnt know the difference one way or another when I would see the show, since I wouldn't be able to compare anyone.

Deff. not. Idina basically stuck to the score as it was written. Which, it IS a goregous score on its own, but adding riffs adds color. And I dont think Idina could have pulled off high riffs like this with the way her voice was in the middle of her run.... Not a secret that her voice was geting a bit beaten up night after night. Though I LOVE her in her West End days.. Her voice was golden. <3 (the wonders of vocal rest...)

I think Eden's voice is one of the great instruments in Broadway, and she'll always be one of my favorites. I feel that Kerry's slightly simpler and more full voice does this song justice, but Eden has great control and makes everything so easy sounding. Idina is the more complete actress out of all of them followed by Julia, and Stephanie and Sho are up there with them along with Nicole and Willimejin.

They're all just absolutely brilliant ladies.

Actually, it was originally written for Stephanie J. Block. It was supposed to be sung in a higher key, but Idina couldn't quite do it, so they took it DOWN.
