  • Double/ open stroke roll is two strokes on one hand. Single is lrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlr

  • damn

  • 1:41

    Dramatic look much

  • he means single stroke regarding the wrist movement you ignorant ranters. well played mate.

  • HACKER!

  • Comment removed

  • i hate how my left and dont wanna keep up :P

  • adverts pay the bills

  • Everytime you said single stroke I died a little on the inside. -.-

  • 1:26 we have lift off

  • these are doubles, yo.

  • That's not open to closed to open. First off you did not play ANY single strokes everything you did was doubles . You kept saying single strokes but played free strokes. Also you never played a closed roll everything you did was double strokes. You increased the speed yes, but never reached the multiple bounce roll.

  • Whats selena gomez got anyything to do with drum rolls? FFS bloody adverts!

  • it sounds like a heli :D

  • this is sick

  • Step by step, great lessons!!!

  • this guy definitely gets a lot of practice stroking

  • Handy to know mate. I feel I can drum pretty well, but I could never get drumrolls right.

  • thanx for the lesson mate.....big up

  • Mkay

  • asffd

  • the sound isn't actually what he really plays...

...it is the sound of helicopter taking off

  • @figi0figi lmao totally agree rofl you a drummer too

  • Mkay mr makey

  • That was entirely double stroke. I understand what you're trying to get across, but it will confuse newcomers. The switch is open double stroke to closed double stroke. Calling anything in there "single stroke" is just confusing.

  • That was a double stroke roll the entire way through. You switched from open to closed double stroke. I think you might confuse newcomers by saying that an open double stroke is "single stroke."

  • thanks i will work on that

  • stroke. reply if u get it

  • gosh!u fuckin cool dude!RESPECT U 100%!

  • Sounds like a helicopter xD

  • cheers m8 just bought a drum roll pad and this vid helped me out

  • Sounds like a GAWD DAMN CHOPPER

  • @ZZBigg i no gee

  • where is this expertvillage tbh?

  • Thanks. Really helped me play that damned run to the hills song on rock band. song is full of drum rolls.

  • epertvillage sucks dick

  • lol he looks like the comic book guy from the simpsons

  • Ever since I learned double stroke my single stroke is way slower.

  • great stuff mate

  • 3=======D

  • dang covergirl. i wanna learn how to drum roll not wat mascara to buy. anywho....ty. i was finally able to do the drum roll.

  • That is double stroke roll, not single stroke roll. Single Stroke rol is when you play RLRLRLRL

If you play like in the video RRLL it is more like double stroke roll.

  • yeah single stroke if you knew anything about drumming you would know what it means you dumb fuck

  • SINGLE stroke?!?!? ROFL!! What the FUCK!

  • Well I guess when he said single stroke, he meant 2 single strokes, opposed to double strokes/bouncers.

Not the best description but you can figure what he means ;) .

  • these fucking advertisements piss me off

  • i dont think i could go that fasttt

  • expertvillage=gay

  • Expert Village is Stupid!

  • OMG HE ATE T BARKER >:O

  • thats a double stroke not a single stoke ;s

  • no no

what did i jus say on yo other video

    stop diddling

u were doing good at first man

dont do what he jus did

gonna have problems if u end up messin yo self up in the future

  • Very helpful. Greatly appreciated!

  • for people who are interesting in improving their roles: a good "post"-supplement to this video is to check out jim chapin's video for "power, control, endurance". for shaun schaefer: if you haven't already checked out chapin's video, you would appreciate it! :)

  • This video should be erased

  • sounds like a helicopter

  • why is he saying a double stroke is single stroke?

  • okay. heres a lesson. notice how in this video you play a drum roll faster than a tempo of 20 and get 4 stars?

  • shit man you re a machinegun

  • I will tell you whats a MachineGun look at youtube : MachineGunSmit ( Best Drummer Ever) =D Check It Out =D

  • Single stroke is rlrlrlrlrlrlrlrl, double is rrllrrllrrllrrllrrllrrllrrll.

  • WTF?!! HOLY...O.o

  • Damn!!

    That was nice!!

  • yu fucking sliced forreal

  • NICE

  • I can follow the speed with my right hand (I'm right-handed) But my left hand can't follow up. It's like I simply loose my rythm with my left hand. Any tricks, how to train your left hands speed?

  • i have a tip m8, i had the same problem but the way to get your left hand working is like learning the basics but with your left hand on the hi hat and playing normal beats, it will be easy on your right and your lefthand catches up after a bit

  • Great, thanks man. will definetly try that out! :)

  • just practice that's how i got it up to a faster speed

  • srry, but that's not a drum roll, it's just going really fast, slicing, but it's not fast enough to be a drum roll

  • this is not correct he is cheating on the rolls

  • soudns good , so does it really matter?

  • 1:27 - 1:35

    you're slicing :(

  • what is slicing?

  • Slicing is when the stick moves horizontally on the upstroke. It's supposed to move strictly up and down, but you can see that when he's playing the roll fast, his right hand moves side to side as well as up and down. It's very slight, but it's enough.

Slicing allows you to cheat on your rolls, cause it makes the stick bounce more if you move it along the head instead of into it. He probably utilizes this, being that he never really explains how to roll, he just does it. that make sense?

  • good video, I used to think there was a lot of effort that had to be put into doing a simple drum roll, but a lot of it really is the bounce, thanks for posting this.

  • thank u so much! im in a 7th grade band for my school and i have a part in one the songs where i have to roll..i had no idea how to do it! but i watched these and it helped soo much!!

  • sounds like a helicopter!! awesome!

  • huh?

  • Sounds like a helicopter taking off

  • yeah

  • is that bad

  • No, not at all

  • damn this is cool

  • i'm tying to roll it the whole time why doen't it sound the same as this

  • Americans eaters of MCshits

  • hahaha! Dude, totally agree! i bet afterwards he went to McShit to refuel on fatness he lost from that drum roll. =o

  • thanks guy for the video this helped

  • LOL...dat was sweet haha

  • The "change" from single to double strokes you are referring to is non-existent. I think you are confused as to what makes a drum rudiment a drum rudiment. I understand what you are trying to say: that the feel of the double stroke changes as you gain speed, but it's still the same PATTERN as it is when played slow...and that's what singles and doubles are....PATTERNS...Patterns don't directly refer to feeling...just LRLRLRLR...or LLRRLLRRLLRR...Get it?

  • double stroke refers to utilizing the bounce retard

  • cant wait to get my set thanks for the tips

  • So, now we're going to do the drum roll, mmkay? We're gonna use the open-close method, mmkay.

  • WTF?!?!?!? Damn Mr. introduce myself 80 times. Wow your just wrong. THE WHOLE TIME IT WAS A DOUBLE STROKE ROLL, JUST BECAUSE IT SLOWS DOWN DOESN'T MAKE IT SINGLE. BEFORE YOU DESIDE TO MAKE A DRUM VIDEO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!! IT MAKES YOU LOOK DUMB. For people actually trying to learn something go elsewhere.

    Damn just blown away....WOW

  • pity all you do is talk, you 'talked' too much about the open closed method in a previous vid instead of demonstrating the transition between the two :-/

  • At last someone who teaches a drum roll and doesnt just say "oh theyre easy". Thanks mate.

  • they are easy...

  • they are in fact easy.

  • true they are easy but your missing the point, this guy is actually teaching it instead of just playing it

  • hes not acctually doing it

  • okay....okay mr mackie. nice finish, very fast

  • Thanks.. :D

This will definitely help on Rock Band haha

  • same here im tryin to beat wont get fooled again and run to the hills on expert

  • yeah. it kinda sucks on rock band cause you cant get a good bounce off the heads

  • u are the fag

  • How dare a person enjoy a video game, how dare he!

  • what the! the whole thing was doubles. it doesn't mean that if its slow its singles and if its fast its doubles.

"still single stroke.....okay now its...okay back to single stroke." wahaha wth wth

  • i know seriously

  • doubles my friend

  • Forgive me if I seem a bit confused but... I thought single strokes were when you alternate sticks (RLRL etc) and double strokes were (RRLL etc) so were you not doing the latter and calling it singles strokes?

Did you say bounce around 1:25?

  • he starts of playing single stroke (single stroke, double roll), then moves on to double, with a bounce. yeah 125 is "bounce", when he starts the double strokes.

  • your playing it right, but your saying it wrong.

  • open close open means open roll, buzz roll, open roll.

  • Nice!

  • Eew? These "single strokes" are actually (slow) doubles :|

  • Your Amazing

  • love the way it ends..

  • i hav learn tat when i was young during my drum lessons.its easy...

  • That's actually really slow, you're making doubles sound like singles.....

  • That Was Cool! Drumrolls I would have played when i was seven! Each Drumbeat i call"Greggerdrumbeats" because a friend of mine,Greg Likes them and Drumrolls,Too! Thanks for sharing!

  • um, that's the point isn't it? what were you expecting?
