  • In the final part "Hort, hort, hort" she is really wonderful. On the f's she sings very quickly and she's not as powerful as I'd like. I hear more sweetness than rage, at least in comparison with other performances.

  • this is the best - damrau will always compete with the ease of her vocal capabilities - simply the best of the 20th century -

no question or doubt - beautiful, smooth, delicate, on note!!!!!!

  • I've heard better voices, but this recording to captures the essence of the Queen perfectly to me. I would not mess with this woman ;)

  • She´s a perfect kind of Diva... brava!

  • she's sharp throughout...impressively so, though, considering that this includes her F6es.

  • @shaniquahk789 get your ears checked, shes not sharp.

  • @skitzo429 she totally is, but you're entitled to your opinion as i am to mine

  • She is still (in my mind) the best dramatic coloratura soprano. I could listen her all day.

  • i like the amadeus version. the woman who appears in the film in an actess, and the german language is hard to pronounce, so they have tho "sing" it in english. of course that this version is better, but the other one is good too. don't be so... geeks. haha!

  • very unclean singing, out of tune , sometimes missing tones of 1/8th

  • She's not out of tune at all. She's amazing!

  • @seetsebea1 you sing it - upload, and we'll judge......

  • i wouldnt say the top of her voice deteriorated, per say, she sang the standard coloratura rep for many years after this which is packed with Es and Ebs, she just lost the F, and theres just something about the pure sound in that recording she didnt have later. Her voice did however begin to deline in her mid 40s, but thats not unusual of bigger voiced sopranos.

  • yes, this is true, but dramatic coloratura and dramatic soprano are two VERY different things.

  • Comment removed

  • shes not a dramatic.

  • Amaizing queen of the night.

    Wonderful!

  • Anderson is a bit tame and cautious approaching high notes and her voice sounds ferayed.

Deutekom is very good but still some yodeling. . I like Moser's voice and intensity.. Depite transpositions down Ilike Sutherland live with Klemperer.

  • I think she does the best. The f's sound like a pretty little flute, instead of a birthing mother, like it does with most singers.

  • @winkandrun Yes yes yes yes!

  • @winkandrun It's not supposed to sound like a pretty little flute. The Queen of the night is one pissed off lady, and her anger is supposed to come through in the aria...which it does not here.

  • this is so amazing... this aria is so difficult that no-one else has managed to sing it in the last 70 years. Brava June

  • ummm......why do you say that? I mean it is a great performance, but the work is fairly standard

  • That is Lohengrins kind of humour.

    Always brawling with greek princesses.

Waiting for stupid commentars to downtalk. Does not matter if you dont understand - he does.

  • :))))

  • What? Many people have sung this song in the past 70 years. Come on out of the cave.

  • people sing this all the time...

  • @skitzo429 - ? funny - let's see it on American Idol.... could make their job a lot easier!

  • ive always thought he vibrato was kind of wobbly and awkward, it got a lot worse than this as she got older. this must have been when she was relatively young (she was only in her 20s when she sang this in amadeus), i dont think she had high Fs for very long in her career.

  • She sounds alot like she is still making a great attempt at hitting the high notes. Diana Damrau does it better.

  • nobody can compare to madame Edda Moser in this aria but i like this one also =]

  • i prefer Diana. For me, her voice is for the queen of the night, rage and force, very dark.

    Anyways, Edda is spectacular.

  • La mejor versión es de Lucia Popp porque ella parece una verdadera flauta y Edda no lo parece, aunque Edda es muy buena también pero Lucia es mucho mejor.

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • beautiful, thanks for posting!

  • I take note of the singer it´s REALLY GREAT

  • i like this much better than the one that they used in amadeus. no offense to june or to those involved in the film, but this is by far the better of the two. thank you for posting this.

  • You're welcome

  • i totally agree. compared to this the amadeus one is rather unflattering

  • hi pretty AND opera like

  • haha! I know ;), I tink it's better than in Amadeus.

  • I LOVE, LOVE this! Its great! I like it MUCH BETTER than the recorded performance she gave for the movie AMADEUS in which her voice was used in the production of "Die Zauberflote" in the film AMADEUS (1984) which they had her do in English. Ack! I hate when operas are performed in different languages than which they were written. When was this recorded? It is fantastic!

  • I agree!

It was recorded on 1991, some years after Amadeus;)

  • @leoperarm realy? i would have guessed a lot sooner

  • June was always so good at staccato-work! I like the way her voice is a couple of sizes bigger than most coloraturas, without losing much flexibility and range. The only thing about her I can't warm up to is the timbre and vibrato of her sustained, medium high notes (around f5/g5 and until about high c), but other than that, splendid voice.

  • She has a great voice. Too many times I hear women butcher this song, she at least does a respectable job! I feel she could use more dynamics, and also, the high notes are a bit squeeked, but hey, its better than I can do. Altogether, a nice job..
