Oh Becky ! Are there any other plots close to you?
I'd love to do this, but even if I could get palnning permission to buld a cabin in Bury St Edmunds, most 'one acre' plots I've seen are the equivalent of about $150,000 !
This is awesome way to go!!! I love that people get back to their roots and take on a project that shows their hard work and tears!!!! keep the good work up and I am def going to look into doing my own project like this. I am tired of all the B.S here in the city need to get back to mother nature!!! Thank you for showing me this is a possible dream!!! Thank you and bless day!~harmony
@TheKeseyBear Cut the "back to their roots" shit. They've bought a flatpack log cabin set, I don't see any reason to show respect, if they're going to do something they should stop cutting corners.
@Hexxedchild What do you live in?? Did you build it?? I don't call it cutting corners because I don't want to spend my hole life building a cabin from scratch. Cut them, drag them, dry them, fit them. See ya, I'll be trail ridding. You can build from scratch. My main goal was to not have a mortgage, not to have the best cabin in town.
Lately I am always looking for a new project. I think keeping busy is how I am dealing with my father's recent passing. I wonder if my neighborhood association woud allow me to build a small "playhouse"... okay large getaway house in my backyard. Probably not. This looks wonderful. If I were as daring as you and sold my house, then I would want at least 2,000 square feet of house. You need to build a pond now! I may have free access to trees at my husband's work.
good move on the house swap but the 30gs on the kit is not worth it, like the previous commentator i would have used the logs that you cleared or just build a regular home and use hardi plank
Well isnt that special ...and what was the hoe's name you mixed the cement with.....just kidding. So you both quit your jobs to build this and talk about squeaking enough money out of your budget. Hmmmm lets think about that one.....quit job ....no income.... OK then well thats one approach ....oh crap ...theres a part 2? No way !!!!
The foam tape helps to keep the seal between the logs. Just wondering why you didn't use some of your trees in the building process? Builing a log home is alot of work but so worth it. Building a hand scribed log home in Canada.
@venusm61 It's smart to know your limitations. I LOVE my cabin and when they drop off a pile of logs, you still have to get it up before it all rots on the ground. That's hard, but I did it.
lucky! I've been trying to get land but the only labd cheap enough and remote enough for me is way up North. No work up there short growing seasons and hard winters
@Deralict55 The north is not so bad. The growing season can be expand with a greenhouse and the winters allow for extra freezer space...LOL. You can even add compost to the greenhouse in the winter to create heat without adding the typical heater. Our winters have reached -40 but I wouldn't trade it for the humid south, been there done that.
@telemarker77 No, not at all. He can't work a screw driver. He is the nerdy type, but he is loving enough to live in a tent while I build my dream. Thanks baby!!
Where do you guys find such nicely wooded land that you can actually afford after purchase and property taxes?

Well, I wish the lass well and that sort of thing is hard graft, but at the end of the day all she has done is put up a garden shed.
