  • After finding out through the comment's that this wasn't the mic I need I still watched the video to hear you sing. You have a great voice man. Keep it up.

  • when i record something with my sm57 i only get MONO Sound can you please help me (i want stereo sound)

  • @Wessel99 Get a condenser mic.

  • @Wessel99 Also, nobody records in stereo. They record two mono tracks and then pan the two. Well, not nobody, people rarely record in stereo.

  • i like to record electric guitar but i dont know a good mic to record from my amp. any recommendations?

  • @DFMerlino there's quite a few you can play around with and see which one(s) you like... Shure SM7b, ElectroVoice RE20, Shure SM57, Sennheiser MD421, Sennheiser E835. There's some pretty cheap yet decent sounding Apex, Nady and CAD microphones as well.

Usually, for mic-ing guitar cabs, you wanna go with dynamic microphones.

  • do you think that sm57 is good for vocals and acuostic guitar (not ampli) ?

  • @musicheggiante If you are just starting out, yes. But there are some other options out there to consider as well. There are some inexpensive USB Condenser mics like the Audio-Technica AT2020 or Apex 440 that can give you a more open sound than the SM57. Or some kits like the Sennheiser E-Pack E835 which includes a great dynamic microphone (a lot of people consider it superior to the Shure SM57/SM58), an XLR cable and one of the best german made mic stands out there.

  • @alexn882 yes, i'm just starting! I'm looking for a good microphone both for vocals & acoustic/classic guitar (not amplified), recording in the same time.

    Thanks for reply!

  • Why would you rent a $70+ mic?

  • you rented a mic???

  • Did you eq?

  • cool : )

  • Fantastic skill. Just need to add passion to the vocals in key moments to sell the emotion of the song! Then will be fully top-notch singer.

  • Predominantly used for outside recording. A pop shield will be more useful as it wont muffle your audio like it seems to have done here

  • A pop filter works netter than that condom on there. Theyre predominant

  • have you plugged it into a pre amp because i have an Apogee Duet and its really quiet, is their anyway i can make it louder without effecting the qaulity?

  • how is this vs the 58?

  • Amazing tone, but with a little reverb will sound more amazing haha

  • this a stupid question, to what thing is the microphone connected (is it connected to an amplifier or cabinet or simply to the speakers)?

  • Mate is that you playing? :D (just found it curious)

  • HELLO DUDE

I'M SÉ RODRIGO SYGAHA, BRAZILLIAN MUSICIAN FROM THE BAND "SIMPLES MENTE LIVRE"

I JUST WANNED TO SAY YOU SINGED A BEAUTIFUL SONG!

  • dude im debating buying a pop filter. but i already have a windscreen... whats your opinion? both maybe?

  • The mic is good but it lacks presence. Maybe its an EQ issue but condenser will do much better.

  • You, sir, have helped me decide whether I want to invest on this mic or not and after seeing this, I definitely say yes. For that, I thank you. Great vocals by the way!

  • I was hoping the SM57 was going to be a good mic for vocals as well as instruments :) You have a really nice voice, and I like the MJ picture on the wall :D

  • @Roxie23x Yep, for the money, the SM57 is a great mic. You'll just need a pop filter or foam windscreen like the one I used in the video and you'll be set.

  • @alexn882 It sure is, thanks for the advice :)

  • cud someone help me with recording a video with the sm57, it only comes out of 1 speaker

  • Very great voice!!

  • your voice is very relaxing to me thank you.

  • What kind of preamp are you using for that mic?

  • Damn nice. You have a really good voice.

  • is it a dynamic or condenser? propably a silly thing to ask it looks like a dynamic

  • @NBproductionspresent it's a dynamic cardioid

  • how would this do for rap/grime?

  • do you think this mic would be good for rap vocals??

    thanks! awesome vid!

  • I can't believe that I hadn't thought of youtubing sm57's before. I've been using one on stage and in jam for a few months now and love it... but all I get is the same old shit, "You don't know what you're doing, that's an instrument mic." My response usually entails, "YET I SOUND BETTER THAN YOU!?"

    Bleh.

  • @MindOfPagan haha! that's so true.

  • Dude, you kick ass. Thanks for this demo.

  • Yeah, Sm57 have a tendency to pick up the low end very easily, so a little filter below 70 or 90 would do the job.

  • @skatastic2 Hey, thanks. What do you mean? There's no autotune on here. I don't use it.

  • @alexn882 pro

  • @alexn882 I don't think there's a greater compliment than what he just said... :)

  • @alexn882 autotune is for the vain...

  • @Cds56 or the tone deaf :P

  • @skatastic2 dude you have no idea what you're talking about

  • @skatastic2 fail

  • @skatastic2 He just sings good. there is no autotune here...

  • @skatastic2

............do you know what autotune is?

  • wow man! good job!

  • nice voice nice mic

  • you have nice voice, peace from Poland (Rumia)

  • Hey, I'm trying to find a good mic that I can easily record my guitar and vocals with, this seems like it'll work great. How do you plug this into a program like Garageband? thanks for any help!

  • I think the quality is decent. Would you recommend another mic with a similar price tag for vocals instead?

  • @MNProductions530 hahaha! thank you!

  • How do you create your own album for Itunes?):

  • @PurpleZebrax3 you record your songs and then pay a distributor (eg. cdbaby.com) to submit them to itunes for you.

  • awesome. you got it dude, you should try out for idol!

  • @miksilplik idol is a bad idea. even if you win you can't write music that you want to do...

  • i just got the SHS OM-450, which i know its the cheap version of the Shure SM 57 but i figured it would do justice for a little, i got it at a decent price. but when i record i barely can hear myself and i turn it up to like 30dB and its louder but i get crazy backround feedback from turning it up. anything im doing wrong?

  • could you tell the input into the cpu is it usb?

  • @KunalShark it's not

  • Has the audio been "cleaned" at all? I'm thinking about getting this mic :)

  • @AegyoTaeng Just a little bit of EQ, that's all.

  • Pure Eargasm dude, you got SOUL !

  • @TheMusicDude1997 thank you so much! God Bless!

  • love the high notes! keep the work up, if anything work on your low notes but you sound great!

  • @bballer4life24 thanks!

  • You look like Ricky Martin

  • Shure SM57 me serviría para grabar canciones ( voces )?

  • You got soul, dude. And I wonder what the SM57 is NOT good for?? haha

  • @fluff191 Thank you! And I agree, the SM57 is one of the best mics out there haha.

  • how do you connect the microphone?

  • Wow first off this is awesome! and secondly can anyone explain the process of recording with a real mic as opposed to a usb mic like i've been using? i've currently been using the samson C01U usb mic and i've been wanting to upgrade. Will the quality of a real mic be better than a usb mic? you can check out my videos and listen to my songs w/ the usb mic and tell me if you think it would be worth it or not to switch to a real mic and if so what mic would be my best choice for under 150$? thanks!

  • love your vibrato. It sounds exactly like Stevies.

  • @RediForKing thanks!

  • i just bought one

    is it good for recording

  • i just bought one

    is it good for recording

  • Nice mic and vocal, how long do you sing?

  • Nice vocal. You're talented chap. All the best.

  • @TheArtmedia thank you! all the best to you as well.

  • Yeah, just won that Shure SM57 on Ebay, for Vocoder in my Yamaha Motif XS. Hopefully good choice. LOL, cheers mate.

  • sounds like a great mic, you got a well nice clean sound ^^

  • @AriaAsacura Thank you!

  • @alexn882 hey dude this is a good cover! I actually have this mic, I got it for christmas, and I was wondering, if i put a pop filter on it do you think it will be good enough, or should I return it for the sm58? because I know that the sm57 is primarily for instruments, and I personally sing and rap, so I am not sure what is the best mic for me, thanks

  • @kryss12345671 thanks! I think the sm57 sounds better than the sm58 but maybe that's just me. I'd either get the Shure A2WS Foam Windscreen or just a cheap pop filter/windscreen. That's all you're gonna need.

  • I live in the UK, but my missus is out in New York right now picking me up some Shure 57s and 52a beta..

    I'm saving like a 3rd..

    UK: £96 - £110

    US - £60

top tip,, when the other half goes on hols over there, get her to pick em up!!

    hehe US SM57s FTW!!!

  • For vocal application, why use a 57 over 58??

I'm genuinely curious. Not making a statement.

There around the same price point too I think.

  • @mattandhisguitar 58 is a bit 'warmer'...57 is a bit brighter but can help you punch threw the rest of the mix.

    TBH theyre pretty similar

  • @VariousArtists2007 I agree. I don't like the 58 at all. Especially on vocals, I find it relatively hard to mix due to it sounding so dull and "closed". On the other hand, the 57 is just perfect. It's still got that nice warm signature Shure sound, but much clearer, brighter and open. Personally, I love the way the "s" sounds on it. Call me crazy, but one of the characteristics I consider when judging a mic is the way it records sibilance, haha. It is highly important to me.

  • you bring it man

  • nice warm voice man...;)

  • @idomusics thank you!

  • is this mic good for recording vocals into computer?

  • @vintagechick1 yes, as long as you know how to get the best out of it. There have been many albums recorded with it in the past.

  • Rented??? Dude there 100 bucks... Best 100 bucks in the studio. hands down period... Cheers on your cover. Sounds great.

  • @GQflydude Thanks for the compliment! The mic is still on my "to-buy" list so I will definitely buy it one of these days. The reason why I rented it was to test it out and see what the big fuss was all about. I usually do that with every piece of music equipment that I want to buy. I came to love the mic and I especially loved the fact that it can take a LOT... and I mean a LOT of noise.

  • You sing really good mate.

  • @MikeoWar Thanks!

  • what interface is your mic plugged into?

  • @Power2theFlyingV Mic plugs into an old 12 channel mixer of mine which is then plugged into an old external USB sound card (Creative SB Extigy). That's all.

  • @alexn882 sounds really good! I might pick up one of these. oh and nice playing too! very well done

  • did you edit an eq there? 'cause my sm 57 has not so much low end and much less highs. and you have to sing with 1cm-distance so that it captures something at all! I still wonder, whether my mic is intact!

  • @simulator94 Hmm... I think I know what you're saying. A few friends of mine seem to also have that problem. I guess it's all about finding the right pre-amp/mixer. In my case, I'd say I am using pretty basic stuff: A cheap old 12 channel mixer plugged into an old external USB sound card (Creative SB Extigy). I don't remember exactly, but there might have been a little boost around 12k. So again, just try to find a clean sounding pre-amp.

  • @simulator94 By the way, where did you get your SM57 from? Because there ARE a lot of fake ones made in China just about anywhere... especially on eBay... and they don't even come close to sounding like the real Shure SM57.

  • @alexn882 I got mine from thomann. it's very popular in germany. Is it really possible that they could have sent me a fake one without knowing that? Are there some identifying features, that can help me, to find out, whether my sm57 is a real one?

  • @simulator94 Yeah dude. Search here on Youtube "Fake Shure SM57" it's a really helpful video!

  • @simulator94 Dude that sound like a fake...

  • epic voice man. what kind of mixer are you using btw?

  • @FOSxBoriquakidd I'm using an old external USB sound card (Creative SB Extigy) & a pretty old and cheap 12 channel mixer.

  • sickk dude!

  • @billykim100 thanks!

  • Damn. You kicked my ass with Your voice. AMAZING! Thanks for sharing.

  • @marshallek thank you!

  • killer voice man.

  • @Bluestouse86 thank you!

  • dude i enjoyed this a fuck load

  • @Dangersounds thanks!

  • cheers man :)

  • @KarlToth thanks!

  • What audio interface are u using?? Thanks!

  • @katemmay I'm using an old external USB sound card (Creative SB Extigy) & a pretty cheap 12 channel mixer.

  • your voice fits good with the sm57, but have you tried sm58? They usually sits better with vocals.

  • @keegist I prefer the sm57 for recording vocals, but for live I'd go for the sm58.

  • @phycho91 I agree.

  • lol ok mines an sm58. i dont see my last comment but i commented on how it doesnt look like my mic

  • @jjallen1976 Oh yes, well some people say that the 58 and 57 are very similar mics but if you ask I can hear a pretty big difference. I prefer the Sm57, but maybe that's just me.

  • that looks nothing like my sm57. is there a different style of the sm57? sorry for sounding ignorant. im just an extreme metal vocalist haha

  • The Vibrato in your voice sounds a lot like Stevie himself great job!!!

  • @NathanRyanAllen thank you!!

  • sm57's are amazing..your voice is even better.

  • @HeyRoccoMusic thank you so much!

  • Shure SM57 / 58 can work both guitar amp and vocal ?? you got a great tone !!

  • @foreverjimmy Thank you! And yes, for sure. They're both great mics but I prefer the Sm57.

  • Great voice!!

  • @ElegyForTheMasses thank you!

  • dude you have an incredible singing voice... !!!

  • @alfalfasprout69 thank you so much!

  • good voice

  • @mab1ro thank you!

  • How are you recording this? I use a XLR Female to a standard 3.5m Jack which plugs into my laptop, and I always have trouble getting the sound loud enough without having any distortion.

  • @WeakGuy

Better use an interface. the line ins of most laptops suck and take damage.

The Interface works like an external sound card and you have more possibilities to get the right sound loud enough. Use free recording programm audacity and an interface (there are cheap ones for 50 bucks!) and you'll be happy. Sorry for my english, i'm german.

  • Comment removed

  • @WeakGuy I'm using an external usb sound card + a typical mixer. That's pretty much all you're gonna need. Oh yes and whatever DAW you can afford like Audacity (free), Cakewalk, Logic, etc.

  • are you using a preamp?

  • @nicolas1400 technically yes. I am using a real old Creative Sound Blaster sound card with a fairly cheap 12 channel Mixer.

  • what interface are u using

  • @YoungFireStudios a realll old Creative Sound Blaster sound card with a fairly cheap 12 channel Mixer.

  • nice voice man! i'm definatly getting the 57 now

  • @njnetsfan524 thanks! have fun with it!

  • sounds like my dad hitting my mom, fucking great!

  • good, man

  • @RafaKBLudo thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • Great voice! I envy your control. The sm-57 is an amazing mic. Nice vid

  • @nolagwaggers Lol thank you! And yes, it's definitely a great mic.

  • you have exact the same keyboard as me ;)

nice video, now i know how the sm57 sounds with vocals because im planning to get one

  • @MusicRedd Haha. That's actually my sister's keyboard, but I guess it's found its way into my room, mainly because I like the keys on it a lot more than on my M-Audio USB one.

Anyways, I'm glad I could help out. The sm57 is great, go for it!

  • @alexn882

the m audios have the worst keyboard mechanism ever

  • Incredible, perfectly in tune voice.

You're seem genuine and modest too...I like that.

    What mixer/interface do you use?

  • Thanks so much!

Hmm, good question... I'd say I am using pretty basic stuff. Just a 12 Channel Mixer connected to my old Creative USB Soundcard... must be from around 2002 or so.

  • Thanks for the info. Seems like you can achieve a really great sound with the two!

    Keep it up!

...and what the hell, I'll subscribe.

  • Hey, thanks so much for subscribing!

  • I just bought one!

  • It's a great mic. Hope it works out for you.

  • Nice voice you got there!

Thanks for this video, really shows how good the SM57 is (Just bought one).

  • Thank you! And no problem, I'll definitely put up more videos when/if I rent more mics in the future.

  • The Shure SM57... Uses a USB port or no?

  • Nope, just plain old XLR. I'm sure you can find an XLR to USB converter out there though, if that's what you need.

  • no editing the vocals at all??

    good quality

  • Nope, just plugged the SM57 into my mixer and clicked record.

  • YOU HAVE A NICE VOICE MAN :)
